The Lost Princess

Senior year, finally my last year in this hell hole. I was a freak, and not the fun kind. My sophomore year in the middle of my English class it happened. The day of my sixteenth birthday my head felt like it was splitting in two. Then I was able to hear everyone's thoughts around me.  Along with voices my vision became bright and everyone had a color around them. That was two years ago but no I have learned to block it out. Dark clothes, earbuds, and sunglasses. That is how I live my life right now.      Back to this year, heading to my first class head down and ear buds in. I sit in the back of the class and  get ready for the lectures. "Today students we have a new student joining us his name is Derek please make him feel welcomed," announced the teacher. Great another mind to be stuck in mine and body of light. I normally feel when someone walks in but I didn't feel any extra people. I looked up and took my shades off. Derek was dressed in dark jeans and black tightly  fitted shirt. He had dark eyes and jet black hair. His face was so handsome it could be that of a model or a god. Two things I noticed about him. One he didn't have any bright lights around him and two I couldn't read his mind. Every girl around the room though was thinking about him. All they guys were even thinking about him and how they were jealous but wanted to be him.      He said thanks for the introduction and headed to the open seat beside me. As he passed a few students they went to give their seats to him but he declined. He sat right beside me and smiled at me and went to shake my hand. Those thoughts turned from "he's so handsome" to "why the hell is he talking to that freak" by the others in the room in my head. I just nodded and put my head back down to focus on class. Him being so near was a distraction though. At the same time is was a relief from the headaches. It was like his physical presence kept the voices at a low buzz almost manageable.      The rest of the day flew by and it was finally time to go home. I headed to the parking lot and tons of people were surround what looked to by my blue bug but it was actually the black sports car beside mine.  "Derek you have such an amazing car I can't believe your parents bought it for you!" squealed Mary the queen bee of the school. "Actually I bought it with my own money. My parents believe if you want something you need to work for it," Derek responded. I went to squeeze by the crowd to get in my car and head home. Once inside I blasted my music and backed out careful not to hit anyone.  "What a freak! Can't she see us standing her!" I heard the thoughts of Mary that matched the words coming out of her mouth. Derek had said something to her that caused a moment of shock but was hidden really quickly with a smile from her. I didn't care I left the parking lot and went home. Ready to crawl into bed and forget the whole day.  That night I dreamed of Derek. He was saying something but I couldn't hear him. He looked worried and scared. A huge storm was behind him and I didn't know what was happening besides I was afraid of Derek getting hurt.
