CHAPTER 10 The snow didn’t stop falling. The following day, everything around the house was completely white. Wherever Claire looked, it was white. The trees in the orchard were covered in snow, and so were the trees at the end of the driveway where the road snaked off into the distance and away to the hills and rivers that presumably were frozen. Claire stood in the ballroom looking out the large windows. The room had the best view of the sloping gardens, of the trees in the distance and of her surroundings in general. She didn’t think she had ever seen that much snow in her life. It was beautiful, but it added to her feeling of being trapped.
