Flashes Of memory.

ALEX'S POV!!!!!!

Flashback :15 years ago.

My ma was singing as the sun began to set ,I had just gotten into bed and she stroked my brow singing the words To midnight lullaby.

"Late at night when the moon is high

The Wolf will make its eerie cry

Echoes in the valleys deep

And the mountains that are steep"

"Then they travel far and wide

To find that soothing lullaby

They do not stop not once at all

Until they find that lovely song"

"Their children listen with awe and fright

To how their parents sing at night

Then they run with their pack

Not turning once to look back"

"Running in the snowy night

Covering their coats in frosty delight

Finding the source of the music

Sitting down and howling to it"

"Crying with the pack they found

Vibrating the land with its sound

They sing all night not in day

Then they leave To get their prey"

A loud scream echoed just as I was falling asleep.I jolted awake as my mother's eyes Frosted over."Get up! Get up Alex!" she screamed.

I got up worried."Mama?" I said anxiously,She was shaking as she wrapped me in a coat and was putting my shoes on quickly.

she put her hand on my cheek gently,A tear slipping from her eyes."I need you to listen very carefully,can you do that?" she rushed calmly.

"yes mama" I nodded ,Still worried.

"I need you To grab Autz and run,far away from the pack.Go to the nearest town and don't stop until you get there.There are some bad people after her.I need you to keep her safe.Do you understand?" "Trust no one" she Whispered.

"Mama and papa and Zeke coming with us?" I Said with tears in my eyes.

she shook her head "No baby,There's no time,Please please be safe,Mama loves you,papa loves you ,Zeke loves you too ,Get Autz and run baby" she gave me a hug as tears welled in my eyes,"Go Now! ,Run to the east,You should be safe there" she whispered,pushing me towards the doors."

I held in the tears,Running towards Autumn who I knew would be on the 4th floor,I played with Autz every Wednesday and Friday and she was 3 about a week ago.I wasn't sure what was going on but my mama had ordered me and I was too young not to obey. I kept feeling pain and loss but I wasn't sure why that was either.

I got to the 4th floor and I heard screams behind me that alarmed me and I looked back to find a female pack member get torn into,Her side had been bitten into and she looked lifeless,Her eyes glazed over with a silent scream still painted on her face.

I was horrified.I ran towards Autumn faster,passing bodies as I ran,Fear ran through me and my blood ran cold making my survival instincts kick in ,I got to autumn and she was crying,I heard smashing just outside the door I had come from I grabbed her from her cot and hid in the only place I won when I played hide and seek,The back of the wardrobe.I pulled autumn in with me,her still crying. "Autz,You need to be quiet"

she continued to cry.

"Autumn!" she looked at me confused.

"shh" I put my finger to my lips "If you stay really quiet,Mama will come back soon" I lied guiltily. I knew she wasn't coming back.But it worked "Now keep really quiet" I whispered."We don't want anyone to find us,Just like hide and seek" I said soothingly. She leaned into me,Closing her eyes and sniffing and soon,even that subsided.

Crchhhh stshhhhh

I heard a loud smashing of glass errupt from the nearby dresser.I put my finger to my lips at autumn who nodded and put her hand over her mouth.

"s**t!" Someone growled lowly "She's not here!" He growled louder before I heard him head out the door with a bang again.Autumn tried to get out of the wardrobe but I pulled her back.shaking me head,They might still be here it could be a trap.

Just as I thought,I heard another crunch as someone stepped on glass and howled in pain.I gave a knowing look at autumn who covered her mouth again.

"No" a soft voice whispered. "Please no" it cried. "Autumn" a female voice broke. and I realised it to Be the Luna's .I stepped out with autumn ,Her behind me just to be cautious.The Luna was at autumns crib,Naked and Covered in blood and a huge gash in her leg."Luna?" I said quietly.She whipped her head round and her face contorted in relief."Autumn." she cried,running to her and hugging her,Covering autumn in blood."You're safe" she turned to me "Thank you"

A huge crash sounded and a cackle followed."There you are" A voice said with glee. Before A Muddy brown wolf fell Infront of us.

I wrinkled my nose as the smell of sewage filled my nostrils,Putting autumn behind me,my arms protecting her.I knew I had to protect her I just didn't know why.The Luna protected both of us her face contorted in anger and her features began to change,A crack and pop sounded every second and then a Golden wolf formed Infront of my eyes.It stood in a fight stance before it leapt at the brown wolf.Tearing into its side.The brown wolf yelped before rolling the golden wolf on its back.

The gold wolf looked me directly in the eyes,And I knew exactly what to do.I picked up autumn and ran from the room Just as a huge black pack wolf ran into the room ,running down the stairs with her in my arms,as fast as I could.She was heavy in my arms but I wouldn't stop.30 seconds later I felt A powerful presence leave me and A Huge yelp followed by an extremely loud scream trembled the house until it halted,A strangled noise forming like someone had stopped the scream.Then another powerful presence left me.

The Alpha and Luna Were dead.I don't know how I knew but I did.A tear rolled from my face as I ran,Doing what mama said,I ran to the bottom of the stairs and my heart stopped.I almost let autumn go.

There lying on the floor Infront of me with lifeless eyes was Papa and a few stairs down was my brother Zeke.My eyes filled with tears and I wanted to stop but autumn was in danger.My tears turned to determination as I Fled further down the steps to the ground floor.A War was breaking out on the ground floor but in amongst the chaos my mother's scent filled through me with a mix of blood.I didn't need to find her to know her status.I crept along the wall until I got out the door,Then broke running to the Forrest to the east.

I wasn't going to let autumn Die.Ever.She was the only sense of family I had left.

Night had broken and the moon was at its peak in the sky.Everywhere there were blood and body parts that belonged to pack members and the people who attacked us .Breaking the Forrest edge,my legs began to feel heavy and I knew I couldn't run anymore.Autumn was crying into my shoulder,Screaming for her mum and dad and my heart broke for her,it was the motivation I needed to keep pushing forward,I didn't stop running until I knew we were safe.I slowed to a walk at this point.My pack link was completely broken.Smashed into a million pieces.Autumn was still crying and I sat down on a nearby trunk that had fallen over at some point.

I pulled her away from my shoulder ,Noticing that up until now,all she was wearing was pajamas,I took off my coat and put it on her.It looked huge on her and she smiled as the tears ran down her pretty face,her red hair tangled down her shoulders and the freckles on her face made her blue eyes stand out.They were glistening with tears so I pulled her in for a hug.Rocking her soothingly like I'd been taught last Friday. I began to sing my mother's song.It tasted sour in my mouth.My voice cracking as I sang

I swallowed the lump in my throat carrying on as her cries began to stop,Rocking her gently.

my voice broke agin when I sang the word pack.mourning the loss of all the people I'd ever known.

"Not turning once to look back"

I swallowed my tears back,trying to block it out,focussing on autumn,Who had closed her eyes but wasn't yet asleep.I carried on the rest of the song,Swallowing every sour word and making it come out soothingly.

"Running in the snowy night

she was asleep.I rested her head against me and stood up.My legs wobbling.I needed to get to the nearest village.I had to.I stumbled forward,My legs aching and burning as I staggered into the night.

Finally reaching The nearest village what felt like hours later,Autumn now awake as the sun kissed our skin like an old friend,guiding our way our of the Forrest and to the nearest town.

Autumn spoke for the first time since it had all happened.Her words not forming full sentences but enough for me to understand." ome ime? " she asked hopefully. "No autumn ,we can't go home" I shook my head and hers dropped in frustration ,Her face scrunching up "Soon" I added trying to calm her .

"Foow?" She said cutely. I was hungry too ,I sighed.We had just got to the nearest town.I staggered into the nearest shop and nearly collapsed with autumn in my arms.I was so tired.

I hadn't slept the whole night and hadn't eaten anything since yesterday evening.

"Oh my goodness" A voice whispered ,I looked up to see A woman with green eyes peering at me with worry on her face. she bent down and looked at me with a soft expression."Hello,What's your name?" she asked Carefully. "Alex" I mustered with a dry throat.

"And who's this?" she pointed to autumn and I hugged autumn tighter.No one would hurt her.

I glared at the woman. "Its okay I won't hurt you" she whispered softly "Would you like some food?" .

"foow?" Autumn perked up but I took a step back.

The lady nodded at autumn and then turned around,Grabbing a bag of crisps off the nearest shelf. She held them out to me and I sniffed the air carefully.They smelt normal.The woman didn't have a smell.I assumed that was good but I was still cautious.I took the bag quickly and took a few steps back until we hit the wall behind.The woman went to follow us."No!" I shouted at her "Stay back!" ,She looked confused but she did as I said.

the door sounded with a bell and she turned behind her "Sorry we're closed at the moment!" she yelled and I heard a grunt before the door sounded with a click.

I opened the bag of crisps That seemed salty whilst the lady disappeared for a couple minutes.I tested one on myself to make sure they weren't poisoned ,when I was convinced they weren't,I sat autumn on the floor,offering a crisp which she snatched up,Munching on it hungrily.She made her way through the bag of crisps,And I felt two eyes on me.I turned and saw the woman again.She looked between me and autumn,noticing how I'd given the packet to autumn. "Here,Chose a packet of crisps for yourself,And a drink too ,for both of you." she gestured to the giant wall of crisps.I edged forward,Bringing autumn with me and snatched a bag,Before going back to the corner and sitting down again.

she pushed a few drinks in cartons towards Us that looked Purple with little berries on them."Ribena" she said softly,noticing how I couldn't read yet "It's a fruity drink." she pointed out. I took them and put the straw in the whole for autumn,giving it to her.Before Drinking one myself and eating happily.

"Autumn is her name" I said Quietly to the kind lady who I now trusted."Please don't hurt us" I pleaded.

she looked confused "I won't hurt you my sweet,I promise.Can you tell me what happened?"

I shook my head "I don't know,Mama told me to grab autumn and run because bad men were going to hurt us,Then .." my eyes filled with tears.I covered autumns ears as she looked confused. "They killed everyone"

Her eyes widened in shock and horror."Oh my goodness,you poor thing!,wait here!" She pulled out a Black metal rectangle that was shiny from her pocket and held it to her ear,Pacing a few steps away but still glancing in our direction every 5 minutes until she put the object back into her pocket and came back over.

"Now Alex ,You and autumn are going to go with some kind people okay? ,They're good people and they will help you find someone to look after you and autumn,do you understand what I'm saying?" she looked concerned.

I nodded "They won't hurt us?" she shook her head "No honey,They won't I promise you." She looked around before getting a bag and filling it with more cartons of juice and crisps,sandwiches and chocolate bars " Here" she offered the bag to me "Some snacks for you and autumn to take with you"

"You come too?" I asked hopefully but she shook her head just like mama did when I asked.Tears filled my eyes at the thought and she looked on worriedly,edging closer "Would you like a hug?" she offered kindly. I nodded and she engulfed me in a warm embrace,Then picked me and autumn up in her arms,placing us on either side of her hips.The bag clasped in her hand as she did so.

"You two are so brave" she whispered.Then she put us on a couch in the back room sitting there with us until an older woman and A grey haired man entered the room ,I instinctively pulled autumn to my chest ,shrinking back into the sofa.She wigged ,trying to get away from me but stopped after a while when I kept my arms tight around her.

"Alex.These are the kind people I was talking to you about.Do you remember?" the lady said With a worried glance.I nodded but didn't release autumn from my tight grip.

"Hello Alex ,My name is Michelle" The older lady bent down to my level,As she spoke the words,then she pointed at the man "This is my colleague Jeff , We're here to help you.Weve heard you've had quite a bad experience from the last couple of days,That you've been protecting your sister there quite fiercely" she said with a knowing gaze "It's okay, you're safe now, you'll be safe with us, We'll help you and autumn find some people to look after you"

she offered her hand out to me and I hesitated ,Looking back at the lady from earlier.She nodded her head telling me it was okay and I shook her hand ,she looked confused before commenting " This gentleman has quite the manners of a businessman " directing her comment towards 'Jeff' Before offering her hand out again " Why don't you hold my hand and we'll go get you cleaned up" she offered kindly. I took her hand and Jeff stepped forward,Trying to take autumn from my grasp.

I broke free of the woman and took steps backward"No! ,Bad man! " I shouted at him.

"He doesn't like anyone trying to take her or talking to her ,Let alone touching " The lady from earlier said to the man who looked a little taken aback. He nodded.

"I apologise Alex,Would you like to continue carrying her whilst we walk?" he said apologetically. I skeptically took the woman's hand again and nodded. "I will protect her." I muttered. We walked from the shop,The man taking the blue bag full of snacks from the lady from before.I looked at her one last time as she waved at me and I smiled at her.Silently thanking her for helping us.

A black SUV was waiting for us outside and the two adults exchanged a look before turning to me."Alex , you're going to have to put Autumn in a car seat buddy,do you know how to do that?" My brow creased. I wasn't sure. They opened the door and showed me the seat they spoke of,it looked alot like the baby carrier we had at home.

home.A pang in my heart hurt like hell as I thought of home.

the woman lifted me up so I could put autumn in the chair then I looked at the woman ,not knowing what to do next. "Would you like me to do it?" I nodded but refused to be put down incase she did anything to autumn,Watching her every move like a hawk but she didn't do anything that might hurt her.This made me trust her a little more.

She gestured for me to get onto what she called a booster seat and then she strapped me in too.

they both got in the front of the car and started the engine.

I didn't know where we were going all I knew is that we were safe now.I wouldn't let anyone hurt her,I'd rather die than let that happen.Soon tiredness overtook me and I couldn't keep my eyes open ,I drifted into the land of nod and everything went black.

I woke startled ,sweat dripping from my brow ,Emotions swirling in my chest and I broke down into tears.I had blocked all of that out a long time ago,But since the ceremony was over,I kept getting flashes of memories,Ones I tried had to keep hidden.My Wolf Arlo Was going nuts ,Getting bashed with emotion after emotion,memory after memory,he was trying to claw his way out of me to go for a run.To kill something,anything.A deer,A rabbit hell even a pigeon would do. He hated that I had gone through that without having him there.

But I was only 5 ,I didn't know any better.I was scared and alone and I had to protect autumn.And to this day and to my last,I always will.

then It hit me with a crushing this ,Some of my mother's last words. "The bad people are after her"

It wasn't a coincidence ,Someone was still out there,hunting for her for some reason that I didn't know.I had to find out, but first I had to tell Brandon.After all he is my alpha now.

I closed my eyes drifting back into the Unconscious world And prayed not to have another flashback.
