Chapter 11: Lilly's first date ?

2078 Words
Lilly had worked at the restaurant for three weeks now and despite her being forced into the job against her will initially she had grown to really love working there.  All the staff were really friendly, funny and kind and despite everyone being different ages, religions, and nationalities they were indeed like one big happy family, including Lilly and Lilly, loved finally feeling wanted and part of a family again. Life was going good for Lilly at the minute despite it not going the way she imaged, the restaurant turned out to be great for Lilly and the staff who became friends then like family really brought Lilly out of her shell and each helped Lilly mature from a girl to a young woman - just like a family is meant to. Abby particularly began to feel like an older sister to Lilly and taught her everything girly her mother would of if she was still alive, like for example how to do makeup, how to deal with period cramps, how to walk in heels and much to Lilly's embarrassment, when she saw that there was a connection between Matt and Lilly She insisted on giving Lilly the talk about the birds and the bee's.  Abby also along with the rest of the waitresses,  noticing Lilly always came to work in the same clothes and shoes that had holes in them,  before she changed into her skimpy uniform ( so far the only bad thing about working there) one day surprised Lilly by bringing in boxes of their own clothes and shoe's for Lilly to keep. Lilly was stunned by their kindness as no one since her mum had bothered to gift Lilly any clothes and she was left wearing the same five outfits she owned over and over as the only other clothes she had access to was her mum's and she just couldn't bring herself to wear them,  as she didn't want the scent of her mum that in Lilly's brain still clung to the garments to disappear. The girl's also promised to take Lilly shopping on one of her days off to help her find new clothes that would compliment her ' killer curves'. Marcel the general manger lived about twenty minutes from Lilly and he scheduled her shifts similar times to his so he could pick her up and drive her home, which meant she could put the few pounds for bus money into savings - it wasn't much but it was a start at her independence. Marcel also noticed how Lilly rarely brought lunch to work and she often politely refused to join the others going to the local cafe during their break to buy lunch, he didn't know her exact circumstances but he guessed it was due to the lack of money so one day Marcel randomly started to bring in two-pack lunches one for himself and one for Lilly that he would subtly leave in the staff fridge with her name on it when no one was looking - he was a kind man and felt like a grandparent she never had and he often gave her pep talks about knowing her worth. Hugo the head chef had taken the time to teach Lilly during her breaks how to cook certain dishes and the prep chef's Phil, Calum, Alistair, John, and Kain had taught Lilly cooking skills and allowed her to help chop the veg and dress the plates before they were served. The bartenders Richard, Martin, and Carlos had taught Lilly how to make certain cocktails, although since she was underage she couldn't taste them they did look really pretty and she loved learning some of the bartenders cool moves like flipping cocktail glasses. The other staff who worked in the kitchen worked really hard and Lilly hadn't yet been formally introduced to them but they smiled warmly at her and made her feel welcome.  Matt who Lilly had grown close too had taught her some dishes like Hugo but he had also taught her other valuable life skills that were non-work-related such as how to do basic D.I.Y, how to change a car tyre and since Matt saw bruises on Lilly's arms one day last week, after her brother came home drunk and assaulted her Matt insisted on starting to teach Lilly self defence and how to throw a decent punch and their lessons would begin after work that night.  Lilly felt so incredibly blessed that she had such an amazing bunch of people to work with and she was for the first time in a long time truly happy with her life. However, she was still to meet Tommy the owner who was due back from his holiday any day now. " So... is it true? " Abby squealed excitedly as she grabbed Lilly outside the kitchen in between a busy service.  " Is what true? " Lilly asked genuinely confused  " Don't play coy Mrs! You have a date with Matt !! How did you manage that one? Matt has never asked any of the girls out before ... if it wasn't you he asked and we didn't all love you so much the girls and I might be jealous! " Abby teased as she giggled. " Oh no Abby you have the wrong idea... it's not a date we are just hanging out after work, he's going to give me some self defence lessons that's all ." Lilly replied as she blushed. " Oh you little minx, I am glad my bad influence is washing off on you.. planning to get hot and sweaty together on the first date! Enjoy but remember don't do anything I wouldn't do and remember what I told you about the birds and the bees! I love you and I am happy for you as are all the girls but we want details tomorrow Mrs !! " Abby winked as she seeing Marcel nod pointedly at the dinners waiting to be served quickly skipped to the awaiting table. Lilly blushed at Abby's words, there was no disputing the fact Matt was incredibly handsome and she liked him but Lilly wasn't sure yet in what way she liked him... was he a best friend, a brother type figure or could he be her boyfriend? Lilly wasn't sure if she was even ready to date yet as unlike most girls her age she had no real interest in boys since she was always too busy to give them much thought. Matt was incredibly kind, sweet, funny as well as handsome and he made Lilly feel safe, happy, and cared for but she would definitely need more time to process her feelings towards him and figure out what he was to her. Lilly was now incredibly nervous about tonight and she hoped she could process some of her feelings before the end of her shift. The end of Lilly's shift came far too quickly and Lilly was still confused about how she felt... was Matt confused also? Should she ask him? Before she could figure out what to do Matt swanned out of the kitchen and put his arm over her shoulder. " Hey Lil, ready? " He asked as he winked at her making her blush. " Ermm yeah sure, let me just go say bye to Abby,"  Lilly replied in an embarrassing nervous stutter. Before she could walk into the girl's locker room however Abby came out of it like a whirlwind and skipped over to Matt and Lilly. " Hey guy has fun tonight, I'll see you tomorrow. " Abby said perfectly innocently before she grabbed Lilly into a tight hug and whispered in her ear  " You're a young woman Lilly don't be pressured into anything you don't want to do but if you do want to your unattached and it's perfectly fine - remember woman enjoy s*x too and you shouldn't be ashamed of that fact. I have put a condom in your bag just in case, you should always be safe. " Abby pulled away and winked before kissing Lilly's now scarlet cheek and skipped out the restaurant. " Are you okay Lil you're bright red are you ill? " Matt asked in complete innocence and the fact he noticed she was red just made poor Lilly's blush deepen. " No .. I am okay thank you, it's just very warm in here that's all. " Lilly said as she lied terribly.  " Ah .. I see, shall we go then? If that's okay I will drive us to my place it's not far about a fifteen-minute drive, I have my gym equipment there and we can get a pizza and hang out for a bit after our lesson if you wanted before I drive you home? Or if you would prefer we can go to the gym down the street, whatever you're more comfortable with ." Matt said sweetly in a sincere tone. " You're place and dinner sounds great. " Lilly smiled excited to get to know Matt better and trusting Matt with her safety. " Come on then my car is outback. " Matt said smiling as he offered Lilly his arm in a gentlemanly gesture.  The drive was quick but pleasant they listened to music and Lilly was surprised to learn they had the same taste in music boy bands, Girl bands, and mainly pop. They pulled up outside a block of flats and Matt got out his jeep and opened Lilly's door for her before escorting her to his front door. When they walked inside and Matt turned on the lights Lilly was shocked, the flat wasn't a stereotypical messy flat of a young single guy it was spotless and beautifully designed, it looked like the inside of an interior design magazine. The flat was surprisingly spacious despite its small impression from the outside.  It had large bay windows that had window boxes under them that were filled with different textured cushion in silks, furs and velvet's and all in bright colors, the windows were also framed by thick bright orange-colored velvet curtains that pooled elegantly onto the floor.  The layout was open planned and the kitchen was joined onto the living room, both the living room and Kitchen had the same stark white walls that were contrasted by the colorful pieces of art that hung on them and the kitchen was white marble and glossy white cabinets. The kitchen floor was the same white marble as the worktops and the lounge floor had white floorboards that were covered mostly with large scattered rugs in various textures and colors to match the window box cushions. The furniture in the lounge thank god was not white like the walls or flooring or Lilly would be scared to sit on it, it was a range of striking colors from the plush red velvet couch to the shocking orange and pink dyed leather seats that looked like thrones either side of a large white marble fireplace. Lilly was very shocked at the amazingly styled flat and all the feminine touches scattered around it like the numerous cushions, rugs, blankets, mirror's, candles and large centerpiece flower displays that were on top of the clear glass dining table and metallic gold tables that were place throughout the room.  " WOW !! Your place .. it's so elegant and beautiful ." Lilly gasped as she finished taking everything in and was finally able to speak. Matt smiled at her warmly before laughing " and let me guess not at all what you expected to find in a single man's flat right? I bet you were expecting pizza boxes everywhere a few beer cans perhaps and dirty clothes laying on the floor and dirt everywhere? " Matt teased and Lilly nodded ashamed that she had stereotyped all men to be as lazy and dirty as her brother.  " It's okay most people do.. I will forgive you! " Matt said humorously making Lilly's guilt instantly disappear as he made her feel at ease.  " Now what do you say we get a take away ordered as I don't know about you but I am starving and I certainly plan on working up an appetite. " Matt said opening a draw and handing Lilly a few menus to choose from. Lilly didn't know if Abby's bad influence really was rubbing off on her but she started to wonder what Matt meant by " working up an appetite ."   Was he referring to their self defence lesson or was it an innuendo? Lilly thought as she browsed through the menu's unable to concentrate on them. She would soon find out.
