Maddie’s POV:
‘Uhmmm……yeah, I am alright, it was just a foolish dream’ I murmured still under the scrutinizing intensity of those eyes. He looked at me skeptically as sweat dripped down my neck unto my body with my forehead hot and my breathing irregular.
‘I am fine really, I said.’ ‘Would I lie to my master?’ I added mockingly to lighten the mood. I wondered when I started making jokes with cold-blooded monsters with really long fangs.
He seemed to have read my quick change of thoughts because he suddenly looked angry and said, ‘Alright Goofy, Back to sleep. You have a hectic day ahead of you, you need to appreciate the comfort of sleep more and how not to disturb me while I am sleeping’
‘I thought vampires don’t sleep’, I said without thinking.
He glared at me. ‘That is just a make-believe story by people who have no Idea what they are talking about, now go to sleep.’
I glared back at him. I turned to face the other side of the bed and tried to sleep. I unconsciously touched my shoulders and was shocked by the intensity of the pain that I felt through my body. I touched it more gently and wondered when in the world I got that pain from. I widened my eyes in realization that my “nightmare” had real-life implications. In that instant I felt both my hatred and fear of vampires grow in significant values. I thought about killing every one of them starting with the one sleeping next to me.
‘Don’t even think about it’
I heard that in my head.
Does that mean he can read my every single thought! I had to ask, ‘Do you hear everything I think about?’
‘Actually, I don’t. I can only have a glimpse of what you are thinking if I concentrate hard enough. Until I actually create a true link between us by biting you, I can’t read your mind.’
Hmmm, maybe if I thought about things that annoyed him more, he would set me free
‘Or kill you’. Darren said. I could certainly detect anger and a hint of amusement in his voice. I closed my eyes to try to sleep but the sight of the ugly bloodthirsty vampire from my dreams lingered on my mind. I felt I had no choice but to ask him about the vampire.
‘Who was that guy who had the second highest bid at the auction?’. I asked.
‘Why do you want to know about him’ He replied with mild curiosity in his eyes.
‘Nothing serious, I just wanted to know about him’.
I could see him thinking about it when he sighed and said,
‘Lord Garrick comes from a bloodline of one of the oldest and most notable vampire families, not to mention a successful businessman.’
‘What business?’
‘He sells Human blood for vampire consumption’ He said, I looked at him in disbelief when he smiled,
‘Don’t tell me you believed that’, he chuckled.
‘My God, don’t play with something that sensitive. But hey, I don’t expect any better from a blood sucking vampire any way’
‘Gosh. For Christ sakes, all he does is invest the money he inherited from his family’.
‘Oh, so what do you do?’
‘None of your business’ He answered. ‘ And why do you suddenly want to know everything about him.’
‘No particular reason.’ I said.
Darren opened his eyes and looked at me. ‘I know you’re lying. Come on spit it out’, he said sharply.
‘Nothing’, I replied quickly.
‘You are obviously lying and I hate lies’ He looked at me angrily.
‘It was nothing really’. Would he just drop it.
‘You’re still lying, Your heart is beating so fast and loud, I could probably hear it from space.’ He narrowed his eyes and stared at me for a long time.
‘Tell me about your dream, Maddie.’
‘Fine. I was dreaming about how it would have been if I ended up with him’, I lied, but I said it without thinking and it was also believable so anyone would actually think that was it.
‘Alright then. Well let me help with the dream. If Lord Garrick had outbid me and bought you at an even more insane price, he would s*x with you multiple times this night then he would probably kill you the next day, or the day after that if he’s in a good mood and then he’ll feed you to his beasts’, he said with almost no emotion at all.
Yeah Lord Fredshit isn’t a prize either, but I thank my stars I really didn’t end up with Lord Garrick.
I coughed, ‘Uhm, thank you for the well detailed explanation’, I said sarcastically.
‘You’re welcome’, he said back. Did he not realize I didn’t mean that. ‘Now go to bed, please. I’m really tired’.
I laid down and faced the other side of the bed. I touched my shoulder again and hoped it really wasn’t anything serious and then I slept off.
Wow, Darren wasn’t lying when he said I had an hectic day ahead of me the last night, a whole day of just sitting. I really didn’t want to work for him but the fact that he made me do almost nothing but sit pretty was even more annoying.
The whole thing was crazy, all the servants ran around like chickens that just had their heads cut off while I just sat there.
Even though I basically disturbed him all through last night he still got up before dawn. And he made I was awake to a few hours later. He sent his annoying ass maid.
She made sure I bathed, made my hair and applied make up. I had to pick another dress from those shitty Princess dress collection. But the most annoying part were my shoes. Like, give me a break. He made me wear heels again. Good things vampires don’t suck feet cause I would probably have no blood there soon. Would I really have to get dressed up like this every single day?
I went downstairs and all the servants were working their asses off. I finally saw Darren and he looked a little nervous. I wanted to ask him why but I didn’t.
There was a knock in the door, Darren took a deep breath, ‘they’re here’, he said as he went towards the door.
He opened the door and there were too people by the door, a hug and a girl.
Darren was immediately welcomed with a huge hug by the lady. ‘Darebear!’, she said as she hugged him even tighter.
‘Hey, how have you been?’, Darren asked as he hugged her back.
She finally let go, ‘I’ve been good. How about you?’, she asked.
‘I’m fine’, he said as he faked a smile. He wasn’t acting so Lord Vampiry again. There were only two people that could make a guy act like that; his mom or his girlfriend. And by the looks of it, she was way too young to be his mom, even though I wouldn’t be surprised if vampires could do something that wouldn’t make them age at all, but by the looks of it she probably wasn’t. So she was most likely his girlfriend. Wow.
I was immediately on edge as she noticed me and her voice echoed through the room, ‘You must be the pet’.
I tried to look away from her but I couldn’t, she began walking towards me and then Darren and the other guy exchanged greetings.
‘Hmm, your pet is fancy Darren’, she said to him still coming towards me. She was obviously a loquacious person.
I had to resist the urge to tell her to stop calling me a pet, but rather I took a deep breath.
I said, ‘Hello’ but she didn’t even act like she heard it. ‘Why’d you get her Darren? I don’t see anything special in her’, she said to him. Darren and the other guy had caught up with her and to be honest I was kind of pained when Darren didn’t say a word.
She moved closer to me and started using her finger to twirl my hair as she walked around. ‘Kaden I’m famished. Be a dear and get me some of those bloody bites, you know I really love those stuffs’, she said. Was that like some vampire snack?
‘Sure I had a lot gotten for you. Just give me a second’, Darren said as he went towards the dining room.
‘Just get your maid to get it’, she screamed to Damian as he went off. ‘Gosh, he’s way too nice’, she said to the other guy who had been silent throughout.
‘Sooooo…’, she said facing me again. Oh gosh, now it’s just me and these two. Were these guys the reason all the servants were working their asses off today. The other guy hadn’t said a word since he greeted Darren, they really were the exact opposite. Could they be siblings. Just great Darren’s girlfriend and her brother with just me. I didn’t see this ending well.
‘What kind of voodoo did you use on Darren to make him get you? Because I heard the gist. One million dollars, that’s a lot for, well… you’. I wanted to kill her.
‘Cut it out Veronica’, the silent one finally said. So that was her name, Veronica.
‘Heyy, I’m just being honest, that’s all’, Veronica said.
I couldn’t take it anymore, ‘Stop insulting me to my face’, I finally snapped.
‘Oh, the pet’s angry’, Veronica said mockingly. ‘What are you going to do? Bite me’, she said then burst into laughter.
‘That’s enough Veronica’, the silent one said again.
‘Alright, sorry, sorry. It’s not my fault she’s stupid’, Veronica said.
Okay, that was it. I couldn’t take it anymore. ‘I’m not stupid. You must be mistaking me for yourself’, I shot back.
She turned to me and her eyes were now deep red, her fangs were out and she gave out an aura that was almost like the one Darren gave out whenever he was angry. ‘What did you say to me?’, she roared.
