Chapter 1 - The Beginning
Twenty years ago, the world wasn’t a happy place to live. The humans have been divided into three ranks to adapt to the declining rate of the human population. That division brought war into the three ranks. The Alphas thrived while the Omegas just tried to survive. The Omegas were the underdogs of the past world. They get abused and taken advantage, only a few survives. Because of their heat and pheromones, they were used as a tool to multiple the numbers of human beings. They were never treated as a human being, only a few does. The humans have been living like that in the divided world for millenniums when suddenly, the world went into an overnight drastic change. The division disappeared. No more Alphas, Omegas or Betas. Just humans. It’s been twenty years since that overnight change happened. Nobody knows why it suddenly happened and who caused it. Meh, it shouldn’t bother me anymore. After all… I’m a ghost. I’m Tricia, that’s all I know—more like, that’s all I could remember, nothing else. It’s been thirty years since the first time I woke up as a ghost in this world. The time even before the drastic change suddenly happened. I know how things used to work and I know how it’s working today. The only problem is… No one can see me. The normal human being’s capability of seeing unseen forces have been decreased since the change happened. They used to see me back then specially during the cold night. The ghosts that I used to see back then also disappeared. Maybe the change also affected the ghosts’ capability to manifest themselves even to other ghosts; or they finally got sent above. I don’t really know. I’m not sure anymore. Damn it, I missed hanging out with my old, dead friends. Well, it was fun while it lasted. I’m just waiting for someone to send me up there and get reincarnated as soon as possible. I mean, it’s fun being a ghost. You get to travel anywhere without spending money—everything’s free and you can get ghost food from the gifts of the living for the dead. The only catch is that you can’t talk with anyone, that’s what’s making it boring. And also, staying in this world as a ghost wouldn’t do her no good. There’s this thing about ghosts that’s actually really scary. When they—I mean, us, stay too long in the living world as ghosts, our souls starts to decay and decaying isn’t good. It means that we’re going to become a vengeful spirit—that’s when the ghosts become aggressive without their knowledge. Ghosts couldn’t hurt any humans until they’ve become a vengeful spirit. The reports from the human world about being scratched or attacked are not from ghosts, those are from the vengeful spirits. Ghosts and vengeful spirits doesn’t come together. Vengeful spirits’ favorite foods are the fear of the humans and the untainted souls of the Ghosts. They devour fear and souls to become stronger that’s why us ghosts must avoid them at all costs. I sighed and sat on the bench. I’m currently in a local dog park. I like staying on this place because of the dogs. Why dogs? I smiled as I saw a dog looking at me. I called it and it immediately wiggled its tail and tilted its head left and right. The only living creatures that could see me are the cats and dogs. They’re the only ones who weren’t affected by the change that happened twenty years ago. Yes, the thing about them seeing ghosts is true. I couldn’t explain why either, maybe it’s because of their heightened senses that they could see me and hear me. I preferred going to the dog park than spending a day with a cat who can see me but chooses to ignore me. To cats, I’m still a human that must be ignored at all costs. “Ruffer come here!” I pouted when I saw the dog’s owner calling it. Out of the hundreds of dogs that comes in this dog park every day, Ruffer is my favorite because Ruffer doesn’t ignore me and doesn’t bark at me like the other dogs do. “It’s his time to leave again.” I whispered and waved at the dog. Ruffer’s ears folded and it made a whining sound. “Come here Ruffer, it’s time to go.” The owner called it again and petted it. The dog looked at me. I smiled at it. “It’s okay.” I said. Ruffer titled his head once again and finally went with its owner. I sighed. Another boring day again. --- While walking on the street, I couldn’t help but notice the amount of people who kept on checking their reflections on the glass walls of the stores. I sighed. One thing that I also envy about the living is their capability to see their own reflection on the mirror. I looked at the glass beside me and bit my lower lip. No reflection… It’s as if I’m not there… In my thirty years of existence as a ghost in this world, I’ve never seen my very own face. Ghosts also couldn’t see other ghost’s face because it’ll just come out static, that’s also the reason as to why in some photos where some ghosts were caught on cam, their faces weren’t clear. It’s either blurred or static. I continued on walking and looking around the places. This would be more easier if I could just see another ghosts around. It would also be nice if only I could have someone who I could talk with. “Boring…” I said and yawned. Do ghosts sleep too? Yes, we do. We’re more active at night and weak during the day. That’s why the reports of ghost sightings are usually at night. We’re weak during the day because of the sunlight; while at night, the darkness boosts our energy. I continued on walking on the street, literally passing through humans when a man suddenly changed lanes to avoid bumping into me. The man wasn’t looking in front of him, he’s busy scrolling through something on his phone. My eyebrows furrowed. “Did that man just avoid me?” I asked myself while looking at him. I immediately followed him with my eyes squinted. I need to confirm if really avoided me. People would usually not pass through me because after all, they can’t see me. I’m a ghost. I continued on following the strange man when he suddenly turned to a dark alley. I followed him when he suddenly stopped walking. “This is a dead end.” I said while looking around. My eyes widened when the man suddenly wielded a sword that’s burning in blue flames. “Yo what the hell?!” “Who are you and why are you following me?!” My eyes widened even more. “W-Wait… you can see me?” I asked him. The man looked at me, confusion is visible on his face. “Of course, I can see you. You’re a human after… all…” The strange man suddenly pointed the sword at my face. “Hey! Careful with that!” “You’re not a human therefore I shall eliminate your existence and banish you from this world!” He shouted. The sword’s blue flames blazed and touched my skin. I shouted as I felt the burning sensation all over my body. I immediately stepped back and glared at the man who’s just confusingly looking at me. “f**k you!” I cursed at him. “You’re not a vengeful spirit…” “Hell yeah I’m not! Wait—you know about vengeful spirits?!” I asked him. The man tilted his head and sucked in air through his teeth. He made a strange hand movement and the sword disappeared. He slowly approached me. “Who the hell are you?” the strange man asked me. I glared at him. Does this man expect me to answer after burning me?! No, definitely not gonna happen. “Talk before I kill you—” I immediately cut him off. “Aight, I’m Tricia and I’m a ghost. You know, awoooo?” I said in a sarcastic tone. “Ghost? There’s no such thing as a ghost.” “Well, here I am.” I said and rolled my eyes upward. “Look here Mister, I’m not a vengeful spirit—” yet “I just want to be sent up there and be reincarnated.” I said to him and then pointed to the sky. The man’s brows furrowed in confusion. “Who are you by the way? And how come you’re able to see me?” I asked him. “I’m Stein.” He said and walked past me. I immediately followed Stein. “You’re Stein and?” I asked him while walking beside him. He stopped on walking and faced me. My eyes widened when I saw his glowing blue eyes. “Y-You’re an…” “An Angel.” “What the…” My eyes widened and I smiled at him. “Did He send you for me?!” I asked him in an excited manner. His eyebrows furrowed. “What?” “You’re an Angel! You can send me up there!” I said while pointing at the sky. “What? No. I can’t do that.” “What do you mean you can’t?” “I can’t because I don’t know how to.” “What kind of an angel can’t send a mere ghost upstairs?! Are you really an ang—” My words were cut off when I heard a growling noise beside us. Both of us slowly looked on the darkest part of the alley. My eyes widened in fear when I saw glowing red eyes coming from that direction. “A f-f-f-uck-ing v-v-engeful s-s-s-s-spirit!” “Get behind me quick!”
