A TERRIBLE MISTAKE

Heather’s POV: A Terrible Mistake I woke up to find myself alone in the hotel room, the man was gone, just like I had expected, I was actually glad he left, I could not deal with having to talk to him this morning. I looked around the room and I saw my dress at the far end of the room, I knew my hair was a mess even without looking at the mirror and there a dull pain between my legs, he had been gentle but the pain was still there. I glanced around and my eyes fell on the cash on the side drawer, I suddenly felt shame wash over me, I felt like a cheap call girl, slowly I drew myself towards the money and grabbed it, after counting money, I realized it was a lot more than what Daisey had said it will be, it was five times the amount and this could go a long way with my college tuition fee. I convinced myself that it was worth it in the end, at least, I could survive on this until I found a new job. I grabbed my purse from the top of the side drawer and opened it, I stuffed all the money inside and then pulled out my phone. They were like a million missed calls and text messages from Daisey and Eleanor, I opened the messages and they were all saying the same thing, they were asking where I was. I wondered why they were asking that question, they both knew exactly where I was, so why the hell did they keep calling me. I quickly dialed Eleanor number, she answered on the first ring “where the hell are you Heather? We have been trying to reach you all night” she said immediately. I could tell she was panicking and I was confused, I saw no reason she should be panicking, she knew exactly where I was. “What’s the problem? I am still at the hotel but I will be leaving soon, I got the money already” I said. “What are you talking about? Daisey made a mistake with the room number, you weren’t supposed to go that room, what happened Heather?” she said, she was completely hysterical by now. Now it was my turn to start panicking, I could not understand what she was saying, if I understood her clearly then she meant that I had gone and had s*x with a completely different man from the one I was supposed to, the man from last night was particularly a stranger then. Why the hell hadn’t he stopped me when I kissed him? Why had he not asked questions and simply went along with it? May be was a pervert and I had brought myself to him willingly, I wondered what he had done while I was asleep, had he taken pictures of my naked body, was he going to send those pictures to the internet? I felt my heart racing in my chest. “Are you there Heather?” I heard Eleanor saying. “Yes, I am still here, I will be home soon, I will be there in 20 minutes” I said and hung up. I ___ off the bed, the pain between my legs increased dully but I ignored it, I did not have the time to worry about the pain now. I had to get the hell out of here right now and very fast at that. I gathered my clothes with lighting speed and slipped them on, I fixed my hair in the mirror as best as I could and rushed out of the room, my heart racing step of the way. I hailed a cab the moment I was outside the hotel, I parroted my address and shouted at the driver to step on the damn gas. I saw the dodgy looks the driver was giving me from the rear mirror, well I couldn’t blame him, I was pretty sure I looked like a w***e. I ignored the looks until we finally arrived at our destination. I quickly paid him his fee and rushed out of the taxi, I climbed the stairs to my apartment two at a time, finally I got into the apartment. Eleanor jumped up when she saw me, she threw her hands around me and hugged. “I was so worried about you” she said. “I am okay, I am here in one piece, aren’t I?” I said with a small laugh which was meant to comfort Eleanor. It took about 10 minutes to calm Eleanor down and get her to start speaking properly once more. “Now you are finally calm, can you tell me what the hell happened?” I said. Eleanor let out a loud breath before she said “so after I left here last night, I went straight to the hotel I was supposed to meet the person but I could not do it at last moment, I ran out of the hotel and did not look back, after I got back home. I immediately called Daisey to tell her that I was able to complete the job, the moment she picked up the call, she asked where you were and that she had been trying to get a hold of you. I told her you had left home and that you were probably at the hotel by now. She freaked out saying she had made a mistake with the room number and you weren’t supposed to go there, so we both tried to call you but we couldn’t reach you all night, who were you with all night Heather?” I did not know what to think of this whole situation, he had let me into his room, he had not stopped me when I made a move on him and he had even dropped the money when he left this morning, so what was I supposed to think about this? “I do not know who he was but he paid me, more Daisey’s client was supposed to pay me so I will put the whole thing behind me like it never happened, I got the money and that is all that matters to me” I said with conviction. “But will you be okay? We have no idea who that man was” Eleanor said, looking very depressed about the whole situation. I forced a smile to my face before saying “well it is pretty much the same in the end, I would still have no idea who the man was if I had gone to the right room anyways so let’s just put this behind us and never do it again “ Eleanor nodded her head sadly before she said “I am sorry Heather, we were supposed to do this together but I ended up ditching you in the end” I shrugged my shoulders casually before saying “We should just be glad one of us still has her higher dignity intact” Eleanor hugged me once more and whispered how sorry she was, I hugged her back and told her it was not a big deal. When she finally pulled away she was looking much better and I was glad about that, if she kept looking so depressed then I will have a very hard time getting over this. “I almost forgot, a letter came in today in the mail, it had the NYU logo, it’s for you” Eleanor said as she stood up and rushed to the cupboard. I suddenly felt my heartbeat increase, I had applied for NYU and it was dream school, all my life I had wanted to go there, my parents had met there and I always wanted to go there as well. Eleanor returned with the envelope in her hand “I did not open it, I wanted it to be a surprise to both of us” she said as she handed it to me. My heartbeat widely in my chest as I broke the seal on the envelope, my fingers were trembling when I pulled the letter out and unfolded it “Dear Miss Grahams, we are happy to inform you that you have been accepted into NYU…” that was all I saw before I started jumping all over the place. “I got in Eleanor, I bloody got in” I shouted over and over again. Eleanor jumped up as well and hugged me as well. “I am so happy for you Heather, you totally deserve it” she said. I could not stop smiling, I was going to New York, the big apple, the city where my parents had met, things could only get better for me now. I was completely sure of it. I thought happily.
