Truth tastes bad.
Vivienne's POV.
For a while, there was a cold silence between us. My jaws dropped to the floor and my breath ceased until I realized I was almost going to suffocate.
With a deep breath, I curled my eyebrows and my hands tightly pressed my phone against my ears.
“Tell me it's a joke, Dad.” I sniffled. “Who am I kidding? Nothing looks weird to me anymore, Dad. But why couldn't you tell me? Why didn't she tell me? Why didn't anyone tell me?” I screamed into the phone.
“Dear… it's complicated,” he stuttered.
I froze for a second, my teeth gritting aloud. Complicated? That was all he could say? My life had taken a total switch to the opposite and the only explanation he could give was just a word.
“Dad, do you even love me as a daughter?” I whispered with a shaky voice.
“Of course I do,”
“No, you don't,” I retorted, my voice low and controlled. “If you did, I'd never be stuck in this crazy maze.”
“Vivienne, I'm going to say this once, there are things you don't understand”
“If you are going to say it once, then keep it to yourself. I mean, how could you compromise my relationship with Brianna over a man? A total stranger in my life.”
“You've wrecked me, dad” I sobbed. “You've broken me and I don't think I'll ever forgive you,”
My father heaved heavily through the phone, he tried to speak but a mouthful of air seeped out.
“In time, you'll come to understand,” he sighed.
“When that time comes, I'll still hate you.” I clipped. “You should be ashamed of yourself, and to think you call yourself a father. I hope Jason deserves all the treatment a responsible father can give, coz right now, you aren't a one to me,”
“Vivie…”
I hung up before he could utter another word. He wasn't worth the trouble.
I slumped on my bed, leaning my arms on my thighs as I bowed my head. My tears threatened to ruin my day but I was tired of weeping.
I was tired of everything.
“Well, that explains Brianna's hatred,” Lysander murmured. “Can't believe your father pitted you against her,”
“And she doesn't even know I have no knowledge of it.” I heaved. “Right now, she probably hates me and I might be the last person she wants to see,”
“I know, but we can't sulk here all day,” my wolf pointed out.
I laid back and stared at the ceiling. “I don't know… I think I can. I just want to be… I want to be free. I want to fix all this,”
“Fix it? That's an option we can work with but it would be impossible,” Lysander said.
I huffed angrily at her and rolled my eyes. Lysander always had a knack to lay everything as plain as it was. It was great but sometimes, it made me feel like all hope was lost.
“No, I need answers from the source,” I clamped my hands into a fist and leaped up to my feet. “I can't just let them box me in the dark, I'm a f*****g human for goodness sake,”
“Vivienne, don't do anything stupid?”
“The Alpha, I'll meet him,” I said to myself, my voice echoing with reassurance.
“You can't be serious, you heard the screams yesterday, right?. I certainly hope you don't plan to put our life in danger,”
I bit my lips hard, pacing back and forth in my room. “I have to. I certainly can't ask Brianna, she hates me,”
“I know, but unless we wanna be the ones screaming in this cold palace, then I'd say we sit and wait for the Alpha to open up about why he chose you.”
“No, I'm married to him, aren't I? I should be entitled to some privilege. At least that should be able to keep my head in place,”
I walked out of my room with a determination etched on my face . As soon as I stepped out, the guards standing beside my door straightened their posture. I glanced at them and headed straight into the hallway.
The maids bowed their heads as I walked past. I moved deeper until I got to the door of his throne room. Cold chills had literally run down my spine but I pressed forward, aiming to knock gently.
Lysander quickly sensed a presence behind me and I turned around quickly, my breath hitching as I almost tripped on my feet.
“Sorry to startle you, ma'am,” a woman voiced, bowing her head.
“You popped out of nowhere, is this a norm here?” I asked, my heart still hammering hard against my chest.
“It's how the Alpha likes it. Quiet and tranquil,” she replied.
“More like dead and lifeless,” I frowned with a whisper. “What's your name again?” I asked after heaving out loud.
“Mrs Donna, ma'am,”
“Donna, sounds great. So what do you want, Donna?” I asked.
“I came to check if you needed anything,” she replied, bowing lower.
It felt like she followed me but I wasn't curious to question her.
“Could you stand straight, that's enough,” my face contorted with displeasure. “And I don't need any assistance right now, you'll be notified if I need any,”
The woman hesitated to stand, but after a few seconds, she raised her head and clasped her hands. “Okay, ma'am, glad I could be of help to you,”
I turned to the door to push it open but she raised her hands in the air and whispered inaudibly.
“Donna, is there a problem?” I voiced out, my eyes narrowing at her.
“It's… I don't think you… should…” she paused, digging her fingers into her palms.
“Should what?” I spat out. “Can you speak up, I have better things to do,” I hurled at her.
“I don't like her,” Lysander growled, but I ignored her statement and kept staring at Donna.
“There is something you should know…”
Before she could complete her statement, the door clicked open and Stephen bumped into me, his eyes darting blades at us.
He covered my view of the room with his stature, prompting me to tilt my neck to the right. I flinched as I locked eye contact with Micheal. His fiery stare caused chills to feel like jolts of electricity coursing through my skin.
“What’s happening over there?” He growled from across the room, sending a vibration through the walls with his deep voice.
