Whispers within the walls.
Vivienne's POV.
The cries of the men pleased him. His eyes glowed with satisfaction as the barbed whip tore their skin from inside out.
The rumours weren't a lie, he was actually a monster. And Stephen… Stephen looked like he wanted a piece of what Micheal was having.
I was a bride to a psycho, trapped in an abyss of misery.
I peeped through the small opening on the door, watching as the men pleaded for mercy, but Micheal went harder. Each stroke of the barbed whip sent a wave of force in the air.
The cries were silent compared to the painful expression on their faces. I couldn't watch anymore, it could only remind me about how f****d up I was.
I quickly slammed the door shut, breathing heavily as I leaned my back against the door and bulged my eyes out.
“Oh my goodness!” I exclaimed. “This is the worst. He's ruthless,”
“Vivienne, I think we need to be careful next time.” Lysander said to me. “I don't know, but I have this feeling when we are around him, it's hard to tell,”
“The gut feeling, the jitters, the breathlessness. What's hard to tell?” I muttered. “It’s certain already, we need to leave this place or we… we could end up in trouble.”
“It's more than that, Viv. There's this feeling. I can't describe it but… I know you feel it too. We are scared of him but it's more than that.”
Lysander stopped as soon as we heard footsteps echoing down the hall.
I sighed and bit my lower lips. “Maybe it's a feeling of certain death, but he just made it clear I'm replaceable like Brianna. This means we have hope. I can piss him off and he would send us off to find another bride,”
“Or he could hang us. Maybe lock us in a dungeon. Let's not push our luck, we can't fight this battle if we actually get on his last nerves.”
“But…”
“There's no but, this is critical. You've seen that dead look in his eyes” Lysander growled.
We stopped as I looked straight, spotting Donna drawing closer with two other maids beside her.
I moved away from the door in silence, staring straight with a stern look as the women whispered inaudibly.
They suddenly stopped as soon as they got close to me, bowing their heads.
“We've prepared lunch for you, ma'am,”
“Lunch?” I muttered. My stomach rumbled instantly, and Donna raised a brow as she glanced at me. “I guess we were on time, Luna,”
‘Luna’ it sounded weird to me but it was the position I was going to answer. I had to learn my duties and my responsibility but there was nobody to teach me.
“Lead the way,” I stated, placing my hands behind my back. The women took me to the dining room and ushered me to my seat at the long table.
I guessed the alpha was going to be sitting far across the end of the table.
They pulled my chair for me to sit and the two women dispersed except Donna. She stood at a corner, her eyes fixated on me as I took a bite of my meal.
She continued staring for minutes until I slammed my spoon on the table, and tilted my neck in her direction. “I find it strange that you have been staring at me for a while, Donna. Got something else to say?”
“Forgive me,” she bent her knees.
“That won't be enough,” I hissed. “ It feels weird staring at me.”
She gulped aloud and looked sideways, making sure the guards weren't eavesdropping on our conversation.
“I'm sorry if I have made you uncomfortable, but I'm a little surprised at your presence here.”
“Surprised!” I rolled my eyes. “My presence in the palace surprises you? Not the wedding and the awful state of the palace?”
She chuckled softly, taking a step closer. “You'd be surprised at how I have grown used to all this. It's not all bad, Luna. But the Alpha choosing a bride is a thing we don't see all day,” she voiced.
“He is a Lycan after all, ” she huffed.
“What do you mean? I don't understand,” I leaned forward on my seat, my brows curling in curiosity.
“The rumours about our Alpha are true… some outrageous and exaggerated, but it doesn't change the fact that we all thought he'd end up with…” she paused, swallowing her words. “Forgive me for being blunt,”
“Say the f*****g words,” I slammed my fist on the table, my veins bulging on my skin. She had reeled in my interest in whatever she had to say and now she tried to be respectful.
She twitched and gritted her teeth. “We all thought the Alpha would mate with a werewolf with a strong bloodline. One with a blessed wolf.”
“You think I'm too weak for the Alpha?” I spat out, my eyes darting with the anger I felt inside me.
“No, never. I would never think of that Luna,” she flashed her hands.
“You seem to have made that clear a moment ago,” I huffed.
“My apologies, but I'm simply stating what the elders and the nobles talk about.”
I leaped up from my seat, my shadow forming a veil over her. “What exactly are they saying about me?” my voice quaked with anger.
Donna straightened her posture, blinking profusely. “The Alpha made a mistake. That's what they are all saying.” she replied. “They say anyone who can handle his Lycan traits should be a lady blessed by the moon goddess and not some…” she pressed her lips and gazed at my feet.
“Some what?” I moved closer, desperate to get the words out of her.
“In their own words, they say some spoilt prick,”
Silence wrapped me thin as I clenched my teeth. I never knew the elders were rambling on about me.
We had influence in this pack and my father was pretty tough at his peak, but all that seemed to fizzle out slowly without my knowledge.
“I'm not weak,” I claimed, breathing hard.
With her voice low but daring, she replied. “The Alpha is very powerful, unless your wolf has some great skills tucked under its furs, then you might have some chances to stay a long time”
