A Meaningful Meeting

“Pearl, that isn’t funny. You need to come home now.” My daddy tried to pick me up again, but I struggled and ran to the opposite corner of the room. “Daddy, I can’t go home. Mommy said..” I stopped myself, almost forgetting that it was a secret. “I have to stay here. It’s where I’m supposed to be!” I stomped my foot, glaring at my daddy. “Pearl.” He grabbed his head, looking sad. “Your mother sent you here without my consent. I want my little girl to grow up happy and healthy in my care; NOT by strangers and especially not by this school.” He looked like he was about to say more, but then the door opened up, Miss Dayglow entering the room. “Ah! Alpha Fiddle. So nice of you to drop in. I’m sorry I couldn’t be here when you first arrived… Tell me, how was the trip?” She gave my daddy one of her prettiest smiles, only getting a scowl from him in return. “The infamous Gail Dayglow… I see you’re still a wolf in sheep’s clothing.” “Aha! Surely you jest, sir.” She grinned and pulled at a seat at the table in the middle of the room, gesturing to the both of us. “Lady Pearl, please come and sit down.” I scampered over to the table as quickly as I could, making her smile at me and then at my daddy, a secret message going in between them as my daddy then sat down too. “You see; she’s already adapting wonderfully to our program. Pearl has the makings of a wonderful omega. She’s thoughtful, smart, and eager to please.” She patted the top of my head, turning back to my father. “And if I’m not mistaken, your pack needed the funds that she immediately brought in, correct?” My daddy hung his head in shame, not looking at me when Miss Dayglow said that. “It doesn’t matter. We don’t want that type of money, especially when it comes on the back of someone so innocent.” He looked down to me and sighed, defeat settling in. “I know my mate signed papers; but is there any way I can get her out of here?” “I’m afraid not.” She patted my head again, running her fingers through my soft blond hair. “Not unless you want to get in trouble with the council.” So daddy will get in trouble then. Mommy had been telling the truth; if I didn’t come here, they all would be in danger. I held my hands in my lap tightly, shivering slightly when Miss Dayglow’s hand settled onto my shoulder. “Lady Pearl, I think it’s time for you to tell your father goodbye. After all, he did fight off council guards just to try and say goodbye to you before.” “Goodbye, Daddy. I love you!” I smiled brightly at him as he tried to do the same in return. “I love you too, Princess. Never forget that…” “Your time is up, Alpha Fiddle. Pearl, go through the door there and they’ll take you back to Misses Crow. She is still at the doctor’s area and all the other new ladies have their visits to do as well.” “Yes, Miss Dayglow.” I hurried out of my chair, turning one last time to my father and blowing him a kiss. He caught it and put it to his heart, his head slumping as I closed the door behind me. “Lady Pearl, please come with me.” One of the Older Ladies was eating for me, her sash a pretty shade of light green. She lead me back to the hospital wing, a ruckus of chatter coming from within. “Oh.. this doesn’t look good.” When we got inside the room, all of my classmates were lined against the wall as a girl withered on the floor, her sash a shade of baby blue. “Hold her down! I need to get the wax off before it damages her!” The doctor had a few nurses around the girl as they worked on pulling a white substance from the girl’s face, someone bringing a gurney from the back. “It hurts!” She screamed as I caught a look at her, the substance was starting to harden, half of her face and her auburn hair covered and chipping. They finally got her onto the gurney and wheeled to the back, the room going utterly quiet after a minute, no one daring to move. “W-well girls… how about I take you to the assessment room next; we’ll wait for everyone else there.” Misses Crow looked shaken, trying to distract us now from the awful sight we had just witnessed. He had us hold hands and go from the room, the remaining nurses looking to the back door with pity. “It’s a shame… maybe one of them will get turned on by a scar.” A nurse shook her head just as the door closed, sealing the office wing from us. “Here we are!” Misses Crow said in a singsong voice a bit later, leading us into a large gymnasium with desks lined up on one half, and an obstacle course on the other half. “For new, you may sit together and chat softly as we wait for the rest of you ladies.” She turned to a woman with grey hair, pointing around d the room and then at us as they conversed. “I hope that girl is going to be okay.” Ally scooted closer to me as I sat down, a lollipop in her hand. “Oh!” I had dropped my lollipop, the sucker more than likely lost as i was scooped up by my daddy. Sighing at the loss, I shrugged slightly. “She probably didn’t follow the rules or do what she was told. If we listen, surely that won’t happen to us.” Ally nodded at my sage advice, holding out her lolli to me as she did. “Would you like to share?”
