“Alright everyone, Form a nice line and follow me.” Misses Crow lead the way off of the bus, having me first in line and then Ally straight behind me. “Hold each other’s hands so you do not get lost.”
“May we sing the School’s song as we walk, Misses Crow?” I asked, remembering the little song mommy taught me.
“Of course, Pearl! What a splendid idea! Everyone, now; follow Pearl’s lead.” She hummed a little tune then, allowing me to start us out.
Here we are a-walking, up to destiny
A chorus of girls we are, soon to be ladies
We must do as we are told, for we are young and theirs to mold
Here we are a-walking, hoping to grow strong
To someday meet a suitor, and be his all along
We must obey our teachers, learn our ABC’s
For we want to be the best Omegas we can be!
We all giggled then as we made our way down grand halls, girls older than us passing in beautiful white dresses, all of them having a different colored sash on them. Misses Crow then lead us into a room, a man with a camera’s in the middle of one wall.
“Ah, the new little ladies! Please come in.” The old man had a tuft of white hair on his head, a box of something next to him, the content a soft pink color.
“Girls, this is Mister Penny. Please say hello to Mister Penny.”
“Hello, Mister Penny!” We all said together, still holding hands.
“What a lovely bunch they have this year! And a full roster too; all twenty four seats take. My, my!” He beamed at us, standing up and walk g over. “Now let me see.. hmmm.. Very Good, Very Good… Oh, what is this?” He tutted at the girl who spilled juice, frowning at the stain. “One already?”
“She will be reprimanded for it; do not worry.” Misses Crow frowned at the girl again, writing something down on her clipboard. I secretly wondered if she was giving us points, like a large game we were playing.
“Hmmm. We just cannot have a stain in the photo… Well, I guess we can give them their sashes beforehand; a slight break in tradition, but it will have to do.”
“Go ahead, we have sister arrangements next.” Misses Crow checked the watch on her wrist, tutting at the time.
“Alright, little ladies. What I am going to give you is your precious sash!” He brought over the box to us, setting it down and taking out one pearlescent sash in his hand. “Who is the top one so far, Misses Crow?”
“Pearl, please step forward.” She beamed at me as I let go of Ally’s hand to join Mister Penny by the box.
“Hello sir; my name is Pearl.” I smiled at him, making him chuckle and smile.
“Splendid, just splendid. Your mother trained you well!” He slowly placed the sash around me, hung me lift my right arm to get it to lay under it perfectly. “Pearl here will be the leader of your grade. Please strive to be more like Pearl and maybe someday you too can be a perfect little Omega.”
All the girls oohed and ahhed at my sash, Mister Penny leading me over to the camera, a light pink background behind it. “Now Pearl, smile for me and then go and stand next to Misses Crow and be silent until called upon. I smiled at him right away, jumping at the chance to do what I was told. “Beautiful, absolutely beautiful! Now, who’s next?” I went to Misses Crow, standing still and watching the small ceremony.
“Alice Froggs.” Ally joined Mister Penny, getting a sash that was almost like mine, except a slight pink shimmer was to it. One by one, we were all called, the four on the bus that were called out receiving their sashes last, the color now a deeper pink than the rest of ours.
“Now a group photo, everyone! Smile for me.” We all said cheese as the flash went off, Misses Crow having us waive goodbye as we were lead down the hall and to a different room. When we entered, we saw a row of beautiful ladies standing and waiting, pure white sashes with a single white diamond pinned at the center.
“Pearl, your new sister will be Mary. Mary, please come forward.” A lady with beautiful soft blond curls curated, coming forward and taking my hand. “I remember my first day, Pearl. Continue to do your best and you will surely get the best suitor there is!” She lead me to a table over in the corner, having me sit across from her. “Oh! No slouching, Pearl. You’re the leader, so you must set a perfect example for the rest.”
“I’m sorry, Marry.” I sat up more straight, havinf her nod and smile at me.
“Very good, Pearl. You will be a perfect lady yet.” I smiled at her, trying my best to not giggle in delight. “So I will be your new big sister until my suitor ceremony in a year. Until then, you must come to me with any problems you have, alright?” I nodded my head at her, letting my hands eat in my lap, trying to copy the way she sat. She almost looked like a princess.
“I am also here to answere any questions you may have. So Pearl, do you have any so far?” She smiled, watching my face as I thought hard for a minute.
“Do we ever get to see our family again?” I asked in a quiet voice, a small frown tugging the corner of Mary’s lip down.
