My sins

Dereck I opened the door of my office and saw her, she looked so cute in the oversized hoodie that she got from Maya. I tried to look away but caught her blushing. Before I could say something, she ran ahead and tried to figure out how to get to the dining hall. Her eyes told me that she was lost and didn’t want to embarrass herself, so I took the lead without saying a word. She was filled with enthusiasm while walking down the corridors filled with animal paintings and as we reached the dining hall, she went straight to Connor who was already seated on out table.  Out of nowhere she asked, “So what does the part with the lost souls in your story mean, Dereck?” Thinking about her conditions I decided to be honest to her, “As I told you before our leader Andrew could see the future, which led him to me for example. I was an alcohol addict in the 1860s and I was only a small step away from committing murder for money just to finance my alcohol addiction. You have to know that I received training and was a really good fighter at that time. Andrew found me and offered me the second chance, I took it and became his first advisor. Andrew searched for people who had nothing to lose, people who wanted to do horrible things and tried to show them another way. It was hard at first because I had to do a withdrawal and learned to respect and never hurt another human being ever again. I learned to fight even better and Andrew gave me a new purpose in life.” Before she could react to my story Connor started to tell his own. I tried to reach his foot with mine under the table and step on it to shut him up, but Connor was really agile, and I wasn’t able to hit it. “I was an impostor in the 1880s in London and took a lot of money from the poor just to put it into my own pockets. One family I promised to make a medicine that could help their daughter. I got the money and gave them a bottle full of water mixed with some grass. The daughter died and her father wanted revenge, so I decided to sleep with a dagger underneath my pillow and waited patiently until Andrew stood before me, we talked for hours and I said yes to the curse. I left all the money at the family’s house and wrote them a letter. Even today I still regret what I did and every year I send money to the the descendants of the family just to feel a little better.” Her eyes watered and she looked at us with her beautiful blue eyes and said, “Everyone deserves a second chance! You all talked so much about Andrew, when will I get to know your leader?” A sharp pain went trough my body as I said, “Never, he was killed  about sixteen years ago.”
