Arriving at the Sanctuary was easy, explaining what had happened the past hours was not. I decided to summon all my pack members and meet them in the dining hall with Alexis and her mother.

As they noticed the outsider, they were a little bit reserved.

“Hello my dear friends, as you all might know already Alexis is a shape shifter. She is the coppery colored wolf that Andrew saw in his vision. This woman here on my left is her Mother Irena. Please be nice and say hello.”

They all said in union “Hello Miss Irena”

“Please listen to what I have to say carefully and don’t be afraid to ask questions. This situation is pretty complicated to understand so bear with me. Irena here was the girlfriend of our leader Andrew. May he rest in peace. They fell in love and well he impregnated her. Say hallo to Andrews daughter Alexis.”

It was deadly silent as my pack tried to understand how this was even possible. Maya was the first one to speak:” Dereck are you one hundred percent sure about it? If that’s true than Alexis is the first of her kind. I will have to do some blood tests and and oh my that’s so cool.”

Some of my shifter friends started to smile at the possibility of finding out more about the natural conception. Being not able to reproduce was always hard for some of us, as they wanted to form a family sooner or later.

“This is not the whole story. I am now certain of the circumstances of Andrews’ death. He protected his love and sacrificed himself. Luise was the murder. I have a theory about it. Irena said that she feels like Luise can not and I mean literally can not hurt her, which has to mean that a magical oath was involved. So I think Andrew gave his life for the safety of the woman he loved. He didn’t even use the pack link to call for our help, which makes me believe that he wanted it to happen this way. Luise knew about us that I am certain of, as she sent Andrew to find other lost souls. His community growing so strong must have threatened her and her dubious actions. Killing our leader made us vulnerable and unorganized and that is why I want to propose to give Alexis her rightful place, as Andrew has wanted. I want to train her and make her the next leader of our shape shifter pack. What do you guys think?”

The people started screaming “Yes, she is Andrews child”

“Yes, I agree”

“Make her the new leader”

“We will follow you Alexis”

I looked over my shoulder so see Alexis staring at the crowd and being pretty nervous about my decision. I should have talked to her about it but she was asleep in the car and I just hadn’t the balls to ask her for approval. I don’t want her to leave, I like her a lot and she is Andrews child. It is my duty to show her our world and to protect her from harm.

Suddenly she moved forward and demanded the attention of every single one of the pack members.

“Thank you all for having me. I want to learn from all of you and take my place as the leader of your or should I say our pack when the time is right. I just have one request: I want to get to know you, all of you. Your abilities, your past everything. My mom always uses to say: together we are strong, don’t ever forget that. I want you all to become part of my life, my friends, my family as you all were family to my father.”

The crowd cheered and Alexis started to smile. This moment made me speechless, I would have never dreamt of her reacting the way she did. She was fierce, brave but still soft in the core.

As she descended from the little platform Connor was the first one to greet and hug her, which made my heart sting a little. Alexis cheeks turned red. Why on earth did her cheeks turn red with Connor near her?

Without any warning Connor took of his clothes and shifted into his fox form. He bowed his head down and bowed low in front of our future leader. Maya was next and turned into her deer form. She lowered her head and waited patiently for Alexis to accept her loyalty. Alexis seemed to understand the importance of this gesture and slowly but steadily more and more shifters came forward and pledged their loyalty. Even the always grumpy Nathan showed her his polar bear form.

He was turned at the late age of fifty after losing his family in an accident he was so devastated and blamed the automobile industry for his family’s death. Apparently, the air bags didn’t work the way they should have, and Nathan wanted revenge. He went on a killing spree armed with two guns, when Andrew and I found him and proposed our offer.

At the end the whole pack gathered around Alexis and I was the last one standing there in human form. Alexis looked my way and I knew then, that she would be a great leader. Her eyes were full of happiness and hope. I transformed and bowed in front of her, which completed our ceremony of showing her our loyalty.

Normally the leader says a few words such as :Thank you for having fate in me or I will do my best to please you. This is was Andrew said at least but Alexis did something really unusual. She

took of her clothes, and I mean all of them and showed us her bare form, as we have shown her ours. Then she shifted, it took a little longer than our transformations, but she will get better at it after some time. She bowed her head before us, and I heard a short sizzling noise in my head.
