CLAN REGENT… “He isn't a human, but a lycan. I followed him into the woods and watched him transform. I was also stunned as to how I shot him, but the bullet dropped on the floor without his lycan being hurt,” a masked assassin stated to me, who was over three thousand years old, seated on a chair with my legs crossed. The assassin squatted, “Do you mean it when you said he looked like her?” “Yeah, he looked exactly like her, but it stuns me because he's an eunuch and that female was buried before my very eyes,” I stated, staring at a particular place. I then turned to my closest guard and ordered, “Go now and confirm the grave.” “Yes, my lord.” Over two millennia ago, the crown prince's mate and her family were all executed, but seeing the prince's eunuch having the same looks as her, and the fact that so many things about the prince had changed since that eunuch came into the show, it became suspicious. It stunned me that the king wasn't seeing what I saw, and the entire official council had no issues with it, but how did the prince, whom I knew had bloodfed our people to death, end up being free under the scorching sun? I also overheard Luna telling the king how the prince bloodfed on his eunuch and one other guard, and neither of them died, so it meant that something was behind the death of people, but that didn't make sense. The crown prince had been changing a lot these few weeks. His clinginess and obsessiveness to his eunuch needed to be studied. Even if he was into men, didn't that cross the line? And now, that eunuch whom they say is a human happened to be a lycan, but my men couldn't even find out if it was a female lycan or not. Its body rejected a silver bullet, so does that mean it wasn't a lycan younger than a thousand years? When the seat seemed so hot for me, I stood and began pacing around the room, deep in thought. Minutes turned to hours, and my closest guard returned with his news… “My lord, the skeleton of the deceased is still there. Nothing has been tampered with,” he announced and bowed respectfully. I exhaled heavily. If the skeleton is still there, then is that man her twin who got lost? Is he one of their family that wasn't seen? He can't be a reincarnation of a female… “Go check the history of her family. Do they have a lost son?” I commanded my closest guard, then turned to the chief assassin. “Keep an eye on the palace, on him precisely. Try and find out the gender of his lycan, anyhow you can. Even though there's no history of men disguising themselves as females, what if someone decided to break the code?” As I sent them both out, I had to freshen up and rest for some time. … The next day, very early, both men were already waiting outside my door. As I let them in, my closest guard started, "There's no such history. Every one of them was executed.” “I can't feel his lycan any longer. He seemed like a complete human now,” the assassin stated. What? I narrowed my gaze and looked at the two men, “What do you mean he became a human overnight? Or did you mistake another person for him?” “I was sure of who I saw. He sat on a tree trunk until he transformed. I shot him, and when he didn't even stop, I ran ahead to meet up, but couldn't…he was too fast.” I shut my eyes for some time before I opened them. The death of the minister of affairs flashed through my mind again, and my legs weakened. What could have happened? What was happening? “Also, he doesn't have female servants. Isn't that suspicious?” the assassin added, and I turned to him. “He serves himself and stays mostly with the prince even when his time of work is due. Inquiries have it that you barely hear a thing from the prince's chamber, and I confirmed it because I felt soundproof.” It was getting tougher. What I wouldn't ever want to watch happen was either the dead mate of the prince returning, or her resemblance, or talk of her reincarnation. A lycan who dodged a bullet is over a thousand years old, but a human can't live that long. I was so confused at that point that I didn't even know what to do. I hated that, over two thousand years, I had something to worry about again. “Check the investigation bureau and make sure every file that had to do with their death no longer exists. That way, I will be safe because there would be no proof." That was the only idea I could come up with at that point. “Again, keep an eye on him and make sure he is either a human or has something hidden as a lycan.” They both bowed and left immediately, while I stayed alone, pondering over everything. At that time, I got set for the official meeting and headed to the palace. Once the meeting began, I first brought up the issue that had been eating me up. “Your majesty, do you think a lycan can transform during the full moon festival last night, but suddenly become a human within twenty-four hours?” He stared at me for some time and shook his head, “Unless the lycan is affected. And between, one is either a lycan or a human.” “Why does the Clan Regent ask such a ridiculous question when he should know the answer?” the chief minister chipped in on the matter. I love how they were taking an interest in it, because it was beyond my strength. “Well, I think it's time to find out who exactly the prince's eunuch is, because he's the one who raised such suspicion." “What do you mean? He's a human, and as we know, the crown prince won't stand having a lycan by his side.” “Still, a lycan can subdue his or her creature. What if he did so just to serve the prince?” “He was in the human land and had served a merchant for five years before being brought here, so such a thing wouldn't happen.” “The crown prince should be questioned about this.” I ran my tongue across my lips, watching as they all exchanged words because of the issue. “And, am I the only one confused as to why he looked like the crown prince's executed mate?” I said again, and they all turned to each other with shock written all over their faces. “Isn't he too handsome for a man who isn't a demigod or a divine mortal?” The king scoffed, "Aren't you overthinking?” he said and stood from his throne. “My Luna had already stripped him to confirm her doubt, so I think he's just a resemblance and has nothing to do with that family.” My heart skipped a beat. So they thought like me, too? But I wasn't satisfied. I would confirm myself.
