HANSEL…
A masculine reminded me. His voice bore authority, deep and agonising. “Run, keep running. Don't stop until I come for you.”
I blinked, and hot tears streamed down my cheek, yet I began running like he ordered. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me, my feet slamming the dried leaves, my heart beating loud in my ears.
Even when I was out of breath, I didn't stop. He had shown me a secret route which I followed, so I was sure that no one was after me.
I held onto my tears, making sure that my sobs didn't disrupt the silence in the woods…but someone pulled me back suddenly, and I landed my back on a broad chest. I got choked by my blood and watched as it spilled down to my dress.
As I looked down at my belly, I could see the sword piercing from my back, out of my belly, and the hot tears I had been holding rolled down.
Whoever it was, pulled out the sword, and I slumped to the floor. As dizziness struck me, I jolted from the bed and released a loud breath.
My body froze. Was that a dream or what?
I looked at my belly and I was unharmed. I got down from the bed and ran to the mirror to be sure everything was okay with me. Still on it, staring back at my reflection, the door made a sound that pulled my attention…
“The prince sent for you.” Lord Aldric said to me, and I bowed to him.
I followed him out to the prince's chamber and bowed to the man who sat worrily.
“My Prince…” I bowed to him again. “You sent me over.”
He stood up, walked towards me, and began smelling me. Panic surged through my system. I prayed inwardly that he wouldn't find out about my species this time.
“Did you leave the palace last night?” he finally asked, and I shook my head like I meant it. “Tell me the truth.”
How would I do that? Was I that stupid to tell him the truth?
“I was so scared of being caught, or the lycans finding out I was in heat hours before, or the female ones wanting me to knot them. So I didn't step out.” I said it strongly, in such a way that one would think that I meant it.
He turned to Lord Aldric and added, “What do you have to say?”
“Nothing, but I didn't find her in the palace,” the Lord replied.
The f**k! He searched for me?
“You're telling lies, and if you keep up with it, I'm sorry, but I'll find out by myself.” The prince said again, facing me.
He was actually respecting my privacy, but I still wouldn't dare to say it out loud that I left the palace. What if the question doesn't end there? What will I say further?
After staring at me until he got tired, he then ordered, “Bring her in.”
My lashes lit up. Bring her, a lady? Who could that be?
I didn't move, nor did I show how nervous I was. I only watched as a woman walked in. She looked like a witch, or a priestess, like they always said.
“If he's a paranormal being, the full moon was supposed to trigger his creature so long as he wasn't in the human land. Can you find out if he transformed last night?” the prince explained to her and walked forward to his seat.
The woman walked up to me. She gazed into my eyes while I tried to suppress the fear that grew in me.
“I can't feel anything, Your Supreme Highness….but he isn't a human either,” she finally said, just like they all found out.
The prince said nothing, but I was restless, because I knew that something must have triggered him to do this.
“If so, then I think it's time to get my tattoo back. I can't have an eunuch who would be causing me problems since he came in here,” he scoffed and narrowed his gaze. “Transfer the tattoo to me.”
The woman bowed to him and sat on the floor. I stood there, watching whatever incantation she was commanding, not until I got stuck in my lower belly, the pain so immense that I couldn't even stand, but got to my knees.
When I felt something tingling in my palm, I checked to see the tattoo piece and left my palm.
My lips dropped open in shock. I wasn't supposed to be taken aback by what he had just said, but it was as though I had been stabbed in my chest.
I looked at him, eyes watery, face turning pale, but he didn't give a damn.
The tattoo vanished completely from me, and I lay there, weak, like I was losing my breath.
“Please, don't do this, my prince,” I muttered, unsure if he even heard me, but the room was so quiet like no one was with me. My vision became so blurry that I couldn't even see my skin again.
I lost hope, because I could already see my death.
“If he dies, have his body burnt.” That was the last statement I heard from the prince before everything went blank in my mind.
…
Hours Later,
My fingers moved. I tried to open my eyes, but the lid was too heavy for me to.
There was no noise in the background wherever I was, so I didn't need to know that I was in the afterlife already.
I had died. The prince, whom I had been stupidly obsessed with, took back a part of him that had been holding me alive, something I didn't even know how I got it.
With so much struggle, I succeeded in opening my eyes only to face a familiar roof.
“So, you're a gamma lycan?”
That voice—
It belonged to the crown prince.
“You transformed yesterday and subdued your lycan so I wouldn't know you aren't a human. How long did you think you could hide it?” his voice came again.
I had to shut my eyes again, to pretend I was still asleep, or maybe dead.
“Now that I know your species and the fact that you are two thousand years old, I don't think we will continue this. You must leave before I take your life myself.”
I snapped my eyes open and sat up, meeting his fierce gaze. “My prince…”
“You still do not have any of your memories?” came the voice of lord Aldric.
I nodded, because I still had none. The only thing that didn't even bother me much at that moment was the dream I had before coming over.
Who was the man telling me to run and not stop? And the one who stabbed me, who was the person?
Looking around, I noticed that the woman had left, and I was just with the two men, but the look on their faces showed that they were mad at me.
“I didn't want to leave, so I hid it when I found out last night.” I opened up to him, hoping that my honesty would make him change his heart. “You could punish me, but please do not send me away.”
He walked away from my side and ordered lord Aldric, “Lock her up in the torture room, and make sure no one knows.”
