ALDRIC…
Last night, I had come to see Hansel and asked her for her response to what I had discussed with her earlier, only to hear moans from her chamber.
The prince had sealed the room with soundproofing, which only one in at least the third rank in magic would be able to hear the sounds he had sealed.
I didn't think much, but left, yet it kept me awake all through.
After that moment, what would happen next? Would he kill her? I knew he would, someday, find out, but I didn't know it could happen so early. And I feared that he would also have me punished alongside that lady, which was why I checked her chamber first to confirm her state before reaching the prince.
So, after my discussion with the prince, I had to return to her chamber, to meet her curled up at the corner of her room, as though waiting to be dragged out and executed, as it should have been.
Upon seeing me, she got to her knees, her face pale, “My Lord, I'm very sorry.”
I scoffed. Sorry for trying to put me into trouble, or that after her death, I would go search for another human to replace her?
“Listen to me,” I walked closer to her and squatted, “Henceforth, you're going to be working for the prince as an eunuch without expecting a dime as a salary. That's your penalty.”
Her lips dropped open. I knew she would be shocked, just like I was.
I had already counted her as dead, because this was the first time in five years that the crown prince was merciful.
He had passed through hell and doesn't have that atom of being merciful again. In fact, he doesn't listen to people's side of views; otherwise, he wouldn't ask her why she was disguised, but would just strike her to death instantly.
I was still surprised as to how everything turned out.
When I met her eyes, she lowered her lashes, “Now get set for work.”
Then I stood and made my way out of the room.
I headed straight to my chamber to freshen up as I was feeling hot from the fear and tension I had gotten this early morning.
Done and stepped into the bedroom, Collete was busy weaving my winter coat. She noticed my presence and came forth, showing me how far she had gotten with the coat.
“Trust me when I say that it would suit you. I made the right choice in choosing the wool,” she stated, her eyes fixated on the fabric.
I leaned towards her and kissed her forehead, “Do you remember what Jeyne looks like?”
She nodded even without looking at me, “Of course. I could still envision when she took her last breath on that rope. Is anything the problem?” Then her eyes widened. “Don't tell me that Lean recalled about her…”
“He did!” There was no need to hide it.
We all knew that for him to recall Jeyne, the palace was going to be upside down. The last time, he had a duel with his father and almost took his life if his mother hadn't retaliated.
I'd told him several times that no matter the amount of hatred he has for his parents, he should stay away from them, other than fighting them.
He has his quarters, and here everyone who serves him lives, so he has no business with his parents since he still harbors hatred for them…which was real, for someone who watched his mate executed, and then got chained by his mother.
He had promised his parents that he would make life hell for them, and he would see to it that the lycan clan wouldn't exist, unless his mate was brought back to life.
It took centuries for him to find his mate, and when he did, she and her entire family were wiped off by his father's command, so I felt for him.
But I wouldn't want him to suffer any longer in the hands of his mother. He could fight and win over his father because, as a demigod, he was a divine mortal. But he would forever be under his mother, and could be killed if he kept going against the law of the moon goddess.
Collette dropped the fabric she was weaving and came back to stand behind me, “So, what is going to happen now? Don't you think you should stay by him so he won't lose it like the other time?”
That wasn't the matter now…
“There's a human who recently became his eunuch,” I said to her, and she nodded. I had told her about this human, too, “He is a female…”
Collette began stepping backwards, “Tell me this is a joke. If Lean finds out, she won't survive…”
“He found out last night.”
“Goddess! The palace is going to be bloody today, because whoever tries to stop him will lose their lives. He won't let the Supreme King handle it, provided she was in his custody.” Collete sighed painfully, her hands transfixed on her waist.
She hated that Lean kept shedding blood like they meant nothing, but there was nothing to be done.
One thing only I knew was that he hunts blood at night, and whoever he feeds on does not survive. Which means, he'd taken a lot of lives in these five years, and this was his only option to not go feral.
I turned to Collete, about to break the news to her, “He isn't going to kill her, because she looks like Jeyne.”
She scoffed, “What do you mean? Jeyne is dead, and neither of her generation is living. So…” he gestured.
“Exactly how perplexed we are now. I thought Lean was lying when he mentioned it, but it was so true. She looked so much like her when in her feminine form.”
“Their body was even burnt, and not disposed off in the forbidden woods,” she added and shook her head. “That eunuch is just a replica. But what could be the reason she posed as a male?”
“She has no memory of herself since five years ago, when she was saved by the human merchant I told you about.” I spared her a glance and began dressing up. “This is making me go crazy, because the prince had ordered that I find out everything about her, and I don't know how I'm going to do that.”
There was silence between us for some time before I added, “I just hope the King or his Luna doesn't find out about that eunuch, or Lean won't stand her losing her life when she looks so much like his deceased mate. This is my fear now. He might go feral or even commit suicide this time, and I wish her presence would change him a little.”
Collete hissed, “You should pray to the goddess that he doesn't wake up one day and take her life, out of anger that she looks like his mate.”
That was true, but also funny. There was nothing Lean couldn't do.
He could become sad suddenly, or maybe if that female misbehaves, he would take her life for doing evil acts with his deceased mate's face.
In minutes, I had my breakfast and left for my office. I had sent a message to the General of the investigation bureau, who works hand in hand with me, and pleaded to get access there so as to look into Hansel.
But first, I was going to the human land to reach out to the merchant.
