Stunning confession

Jim badly wanted to tell her everything. That he's a twin, and she figure she just saw outside was that of his twin brother Jayden. But he was afraid of the consequences. He was afraid of losing her. And much longer can he continue to hide the truth from her? It's right under her nose she only can't see it. He got up and walked out of the bedroom, his mind racing. He made his way down the hallway. He reached for his car keys, his fingers curling around the cold metal. With one last look around the house, he made his way to the front door. He opened it, the hinges creaking softly, and stepped out into the night. The air was cool, a soft breeze rustling the leaves of the trees. He got into his car and started the engine, the headlights cutting through the darkness. And with that, he drove off into the night. Jane had tossed and turned in bed, unable to find rest. Her mind was racing, her thoughts swirling like a whirlpool. She had given up on sleep, her body heavy with fatigue but her mind restless. She got out of bed, the cool air of the night hitting her like a wave. She wrapped herself in her robe, seeking the comfort of its warmth. Her slippers on her feet, she made her way downstairs. She felt vulnerable, exposed, alone in the house, in the middle of the night. After what she'd seen outside the window. She wished Jim hadn't left her all alone. She wished he had stayed, stayed by her side. She made her way to the garden, and surprisingly there he was sitting on the bench. The sound of his car driving away still fresh in her mind, "I thought just heard your car leave," Or had she been mistaken about what she heard. "It's cold out here, and late, You should probably be in bed. You need your rest." "Yeah," she said, shivering a little as the chill of the night air set in. "But I couldn't sleep. I was too worked up. And then, you leaving like that... it just made it worse. You said I should go to sleep, but when you left the room, it just made me feel worse," She sat down next to him on the bench, her legs crossed, her hands folded in her lap. "I've been thinking about it a lot. My visit to Eastbound. The charges laid against you.I went to see Audrey to tell her that she had the wrong person. My husband could never have killed anyone, for any reason." He reached into his pocket and pulled out his hipflask, unscrewing the lid with a loud click. "It was Gareth's fate," he said, his words bitter and cold. "He was a man who made his living through violence and crime. He was no innocent, no victim. He brought his end upon himself." He raised the hipflask to his lips and took a long drink, the liquid burning his throat as it went down. He was silent for a moment, "I don't regret my actions." Jane was stunned "You... You killed him?" Her voice trembled. She couldn't quite believe it, couldn't quite comprehend what he was saying. "It's true. I was angry and reckless. I acted without thinking, and now... now someone is dead. And I have to live with that." "Earlier on you denied the allegations. You wouldn't even want to hear of it, and now? Jim, what's going on," He drained the last of the contents of the can, letting the metal clatter to the ground. "I'll call the police tomorrow morning. I'm ready to turn myself in, and own up to my crime." "No, I can't let you turn yourself in. You know what that means, you'll be serving the rest of your life in jail maybe even sentenced to death." "I'd turn myself in for manslaughter. That way I could avoid the death penalty..." he told Jane. Even though he had a plan that was far riskier than facing the authorities. Jayden knew it was a gamble, but at the same time it could entirely change the course of his fate. The clock struck 1 am as Jim took aim, the dart in his hand, his eyes fixed on the target. The only light in the room came from the dartboard itself, the red and green of the bullseye glowing in the dark. As the darts flew through the air, so did the words between Jim and his cousin Nathan. "Your twin brother is still out there, alive and well," Nathan said. "I can't be blamed for his decision to keep fighting for his life." Jim's voice was tinged with frost, his words dripping with an icy disdain. His fingers fumbled as he assembled the darts, his hands shaking with rage and resentment. With a steely glare, he took aim at the bullseye, his determination palpable. "He's going to steal your wife." "Don't even go there." Jim said, his voice low and threatening. He took aim again. His expression focused and determined. But when he released the dart, it veered off the course, landing far from the bulls eye. "Jayden's a master of seduction and he knows just how to treat a woman." "Stop it, Nathan!" Jim said, his voice rising in volume and intensity. "You're out of line. It's none of your business what happens between me and my wife. And for you to say that Jayden is better than me, that he knows how to treat a woman better than I do... it's just insulting. And it's none of your concern." "Your twin brother will have everything you've ever wanted: wealth, power, and the woman you love, or die in the attempt." Nathan said, his voice tinged with spite. He took aim and fired off his final dart, watching as it came within a hair's breadth of hitting the bullseye. He turned to Jim, a self-satisfied smirk on his face. "I guess I'm just better at this than you are," Jim gritted his teeth, his jaw clenched tight. He had been bested, outmaneuvered, and he hated it. He got into his car and started the engine, he regretted leaving the house in the first place. He should have known that a hangout with Nathan wouldn't solve anything, that it would only make things worse. He'd thought that getting out of the house would help him clear his mind, that it would give him a break from the turmoil of his emotions. But it had only made him feel more confused, more conflicted, more enranrged. He drove up to the gates of his estate, and saw a familiar figure standing there, waiting for him. It was his twin brother, his mirror image in every way. The sight of him filled Jim with a mixture of emotions: anger, resentment that he felt so tempted to run him over. It was a dark twisted thought he couldn't shake off. Jim stepped out of of his car, his eyes met his brothers'. They stood there, both staring at each other. Long time no see. The brothers shared the same features, the same face, the same height and eyes. But there was a difference in their manner, a difference in their energy. Their differences were obvious in the way they stood, in the way they held themselves. Jim was stiff, tense, his shoulders tight with worry. Jayden was loose, relaxed, his body language exuding a casual confidence. They were like mirror images of each other, but there was something about Jayden that was different. He was the wilder, more reckless twin. He was always pushing the boundaries, taking risks that made Jim's skin crawl. "You better go back to wherever you came from and I mean it." Jim said. His voice firm and resolute. "Jane anywhere close makes the case wicked, dosen't it? After all these years of keeping your twin a secret, I bet you wouldn't want her to see this." "Listen_" "No_ you listen to me," Jayden said cutting his brother off. "I'm here to take back what's rightfully mine." "What do you mean?" "You know what I mean. You know who I'm talking about." "You have no rights to Jane. She married to me." "You getting married to her wasn't part of our agreement, was it? I only asked you to fill in my shoes, and take care of her while I was away. But I never asked you to end up with her in matrimony." Jim took a step forward, he stood to face with Jayden. He could feel his brother's breath on his skin, could feel the tension between them. He locked eyes with Jayden, trying to project an air of confidence and strength. "What do you want? Just say it. Stop dancing around the issue and tell me what you want. Wealth, money, a larger part of the estate? Anything for you to stay away from my family. Spit it!"
