My heart plummeted, and I sat down slowly onto the side of the bed, sitting there fighting back tears as I asked, “Do you hate me now?” Jake's response now was not only quick, it was full of shock, “What?! No! Why would you think that?”
I breathed out a soft breath filled with relief before answering, “You’re his best friend and Future Beta. I just figured you’d wanna defend him.” I could hear him grunt with understanding and I almost thought he’d make some excuse to get off the phone with me.
But he didn’t. Instead, he said, “I won’t lie, there’s a part of me that does want to defend him. But I won’t do it. His actions have been reprehensible, and he needs to begin being held accountable for them. Besides, you’re not just my Luna, you're one of my favorite cousins
