Chapter 59

846 Words
“I’ll rarely be in here between classes, activities, work and studying. You’re welcome to stay. Most nights I’ll crash with my friends.” Dawn said. “Thank you miss. It’s hectic out there.” Kai said. “Don’t call me miss.” Dawn said. “Sorry. Um what was your name again?” Kai asked. “Her name is Dawn.” Scott said. Scott sounded angry and aggressive. “Calm down.” Dawn said softly. Scott and Lucas sat closer to Dawn and they both wrapped arms around her waist. “Why are you so familiar?” Kai asked. Dawn turned her page while Scott and Lucas looked at him with angry eyes. Kai put his bags down and started unpacking. He stopped with a realisation look on his face and faced Dawn. “Oh s**t, you’re her!” Kai said shocked. Dawn looked up with a raised eyebrow. “I am who?” Dawn asked. “The BTL girl. You have been trending for years! The fact you risked your life and your health at the carnival for everyone else. Someone recorded that motto you used. And I have been living that motto ever since. It reached out to me. And then I did some digging and I learned so much about you.” Kai said. Dawn closed her book and placed it in front of her carefully as she looked at him with a quizzing look. “What did you learn about me?” Dawn asked. “I learned about your past, being an orphan, home from home, I learned you were attacked by a teacher and killed him in self-defence. I learned you had a pet named Hawkeye. And there were videos of your valedictorian speech with video footage which was funny and moving. Then I learned about your Victoria secret show and the Vogue show. In all honesty, I can’t believe someone tried to poison you.” Kai said. Dawn moved her hands because she knew Scott and Lucas were about to get up. Her arms across their stomachs. “How are you so sure that it’s poison that killed Melissa?” Dawn asked. “My dad’s a cop. He read everything. In fact, last I heard, he said something about you being missing.” Kai said. “I’m not missing, I ran away. And I am over 18 now.” Dawn said. “Well, either way you’re amazing. I want your autograph one day.” Kai said. “Not going to happen.” Lucas said aggressively. “Relax you two. He’s not going to do something with the door wide open.” Dawn said. “What’s going to be your major?” Dawn asked. “Journalism. I want to get the right truth out there instead of the fake reporter bullshit.” Kai said. “Interesting.” Dawn said. “What about you?” Kai asked. “I have a few Majors. I am doing Journalism, Anthropology Forensics and I am doing Science.” Dawn said. “f**k that’s a handful. Here I am dreading just one major. So, we are going to have a few classes together?” Kai asked. “Looks that way. That might be why they put you in here.” Dawn said. “Why are you doing multiple?” Kai asked. “Because I want to expand my knowledge and get a chance at a better job in the future.” Dawn said. “Dawn is also doing them quicker than usual. The professors are looking forward to her being in the class. She had glowing recommendations from every teacher at school. So, they worked their classes around her schedule. And if she can’t attend, they have agreed to record it and email the link for her to view it. They know she’s busy with everything.” Lucas said. He was speaking through his gritted teeth. “How about we go, and you can finish unpacking. I have to get ready for practice.” Dawn said. “I can leave if you want to get dressed.” Kai said. “I’ll get changed in their room.” Dawn said. Dawn grabbed her bag from under the bed and put it over her shoulder. Lucas and Scott followed behind her. Kai got up to close the door. He noticed a piece of paper taped to her bedside from the door and got closer to look. Kai saw it was her schedule she had written and drawn up. He took a photo and sat back down. He looked it over. “f**k, she is a busy girl.” Kai said. Every hour she had something filled in. She was at Practice 1 which the colour on the side suggested it was cheerleading. Practice 2 was Basketball. Kai was surprised at what she does. He was reading everything when the door opened and Scott came in to grab the books. “We need the books to study later.” Scott grumbled. Kai looked at his phone. “Yep, study at the library in 3 hours.” Kai whispered.
