New Friend

It's been a week working under Alex and he isn't messing with me that much. His coffee run is enough to spoil my mood everyday.

Like right now I'm standing in a line full of teenagers who are unable to decide what they want. They are debating if they should order Latte or cold coffee. Just get both of them if you can't decide. Don't waste everyone's time.

"Amara is that you" I turn around to see who called my name. It is Ben.

"Hey how are you"

"I'm good I'm here for coffee"

"Never saw you here before and I'm literally here everyday"

"I make my own coffee everyday but i ran out of coffee beans today. That's why I'm stuck here"

We start talking. I find out he is a introvert like me. He lives alone. He is literally me but in male version.

"Do you want to have dinner tonight?" I narrowed my eyes at him.

"As friends not like a date. Chill."

I agreed. I can see he is putting up an effort in trying to get to know me it's the least i can do. We exchanged our numbers so that he can text me the time and place.

I'm going over Alex weekly schedule which he asked me to prepare for him. He liked it the first time and didn't make me re-do it. What are the odds? I thank my lucky stars.

"Can you stay after office hours today?" I have to go to the dinner with Ben.

"I have plans so I can't"

"Plans with whom" He said raising his eyebrows.

"I fail to understand how does my personal life is any of a concern to you?" He is taken back my response. He has no right to ask me about what i do in my personal time.

"I guess we are done here I'm going back to my cabin if you need me you know what to do"

I messaged him instead of informing him in person that I'm done with my work so I'm leaving but he didn't reply. I guess he is still sulking about me not telling him my plans. Nice to see in that department he hasn't changed. When we were together he always wanted to know where i was all the time. He used to text me every 30 minutes asking where i was.

I got ready for the dinner hurriedly because i don't want to miss the subway. Seems like I'm going to spend the rest of my life either in subways or in buses. I think it's time i buy a car but i don't have any savings. I'm hardly paying my rent. I got this promotion at the right time now atleast i don't have to worry about rent and daily expenses. In my next life i want to be rich.

I'm having so much fun with Ben. Who knew the nerd with glasses has a sense of humor? Ben told me about his childhood. He is from a small town like me. He didn't mention his family. I'm sensing a tension there. He is avoiding the topic. I didn't ask him because i don't want to overstep my boundaries.

"I prefer books over movies" Ben said.

"I knew i was going to like you"

"You like me" He said smirking.

I slapped his shoulder and he started laughing. He didn't let me pay. "A gentleman never let's a woman pay" His words.

He told me he has always wanted to work in the It department . He is very good with computers which is something i have seen by my own eyes.

We took a walk around the block. This is the best time i have had in years. I didn't even know what i was missing out on. It's nice having a friend. I can get used to this. We parted ways. He went to his house and i went to mine.
