A little girl approached me and handed something from her back. It was a cup of cookies, and she was smiling while giving it to me. I slowly knelt down so that I could match her height, and I smiled.
“Is this for me?” I asked.
“Yes.” The young girl said and nodded.
The young kid was around six years old, and she looked so happy. I can tell because her eyes were sparkling all over.
“Thank you so much! Are you enjoying playing here?” I asked, rubbing her head. I noticed that Sun was looking at us lovingly too.
“Yes, big brother. I wish we can play here again some other time.” The young girl said.
“Of course, you can. You can tell me when you want, and we can play here.”
“Really?” The little girl exclaimed.
“Yes!” I answered.
Because of the overflowing happiness, the girl hugged me all of a sudden and thanked me. The kid kept on talking about what she wanted to do, the things that she wanted to play, and her dreams. The kid was so comfortable talking with me, even if I was a stranger. Kids are really innocent, and I wanted them to enjoy their childhood.
The kid bid goodbye to me after the caretaker told her that I had things that I needed to do. I told them that it was okay and to play more.
“You really looked happy when talking to them.” Sun said.
“Yes, I have soft spots for kids, and I don’t want them to experience cruelty at such a young age. That’s why I am doing my best to support them.” I said, and we continued walking to where Miko and Lena were.
‘What took you so long? We already ate.” Miko said, smiling.
“Yeah, such a glutton. Well, some kid gave me this and thanked me for bringing them here.” I answered, and slowly sat down.
“Well, I know what you are feeling now and it shows in your face.” Miko said.
“You know me. Simple things like this makes me happy. I was telling Sun earlier that I wanted the kids to be happy, and you know what’s the reason why.” I said,
“Why? What happened? Can you tell us?” Lena asked. There she goes again.
“Sure, well my childhood was not really fun at all. No kid wants to be in a situation where fun did not exist and also be deprived of happiness.” I said,
“I thought having all this money and stuff can make you happy. You can get what you want.” Lena said.
“Well, these are only superficial things. You can get anything you want, but not happiness. You can never buy genuine emotions with money, especially love. I grew up in a household without any ounce of love, that’s why I hated the world when I was younger. I lost interest in everything, and became a puppet, waiting it’s strings to be moved.” I said,
“I’m sorry for asking.” Lena said.
“That’s fine. A lot of things have already changed. I am slowly finding my happiness." I said and looked at Sun who was busy chomping down on the fries Miko bought.
