Chapter 115

They arrived at the hospital and the doctor was already waiting.

"I thought this was only a regular check up? Why are we seeing an OB Gyn?" Mercedes asked.

"Trust me Mercedes, this might be the news that we are waiting for." Roman said, holding her wife's hand, comforting his wife. 

“But what if we fail again?” Mercedes said, 

“Don’t worry, but this time I know this will be real.” 

The doctor called and asked them to enter the room already. They performed several procedures to identify if Mercedes is really pregnant. First, we were instructed to take her urine sample and send it into the laboratory. Blood was also extracted from her to make sure that what she is feeling right now is not caused by another body condition. They followed all the necessary procedures given to them by the doctor. 

After a few hours of waiting for the results, the doctor called them to enter her consultation room. The two were confused because instead of having a happy face, the doctor looked worried. The couple braced themselves for the results of the test. 

“Thank you for visiting me here today, Mr. and Mrs. Hernandez. After all the tests that we have done so far, what I am going to tell you is it's good news and bad news.” The doctor said, 

The two looked at each other, worried about what the doctor would tell them. Mercedes was already getting teary eyed by this time. 

“We are ready, Ma’am. Whatever the results are, we will gladly accept it wholeheartedly.” Roman said. 

“I know, and I understand. The thing is, the results are positive. Your wife is pregnant, Mr. Hernandez.” The doctor said, 

“What? Really?” The couple looked at each other and tears began to flow from their eyes. Roman hugged his wife tightly, and they did not let the doctor finish what she was saying. The doctor, as respect, let the two celebrate the good news. 

The room was filled with happiness because of the great news that they had received. What they were praying for became true after waiting for a long time. Finally, their own sunshine, their own child. Roman pulled out his phone from his pocket and dialed a number. 

He called Austin and place the phone on speakers. 

“Thank you so much, Austin! You were a lifesaver.” Roman said. 

“Wait, what happened Sir?” He asked, confused on the other line. 

“Mercedes is pregnant!” 

“What? Oh my! Cynthia, everyone. Miss Mercedes is pregnant!” Austin shouted in joy and later on, everyone can be heard cheering from the other line. 

“This is time to celebrate! We will prepare food to thank the deities!” Cynthia shouted. 

“Yes, please!” Mercedes said. Roman hung up the call and looked at the doctor. She was also smiling widely because of their reactions. 

“Thank you so much, doc. Why don’t you join us later with the celebration?” Roman said, inviting the doctor. Mercedes was nodding her head happily. 

“I would love to visit your place, but I have an appointment later too. I’m sorry, and also Mr and Mrs. Hernandez, I don’t want to kill the vibe right now, but I still have something to tell you.” She said, 

“What is it, doc?” Mercedes asked. 

“About your pregnancy, Mrs. Hernandez. The good news is you are pregnant, but the bad news is that your baby is in danger. The grip of the baby in your tummy is not strong, that’s why we need to be very cautious with all of your movements from now on. I have been meaning to tell you earlier, but I don’t want to spoil what you were feeling.” 

“What do you mean doc?” The couple asked. 

“There are many factors that might affect the health of your baby. There is a long list, it has to do with your age too. As we age, our body changes differently.” 

“We understand? But what should we do?” Roman asked. 

“You have to prepare yourself for any possibilities. But please, don’t think that something bad will happen. I am telling you this so that you will know what to do and have your baby delivered healthy.” 

“I see, thank you so much for telling us. Please do give us your prescriptions and everything so that our baby will survive.” Roman said, 

“Of course. I will do my best so that he will be delivered safely. By the way, you are already three months pregnant so you need to be very careful, Mrs. Hernandez.” The doctor advised. 

“Thank you. I will do everything that you tell me.” Mercedes said, wiping her tears away. 

After taking note of everything and getting the prescription, the couple decided to go back to the farm with a happy, but heavy heart. Hearing that Mercedes was pregnant was a thing to celebrate, but the safety of the baby should be put first. The couple was willing to do everything for their baby. 

“What do you think will be the baby’s gender?” Roman, slowly streering the driving wheel.

“I wouldn’t care if she is a boy or girl. I know you wanted a son, Roman as much as I do too. I will be very happy too if the baby will be a princess too. We will gladly accept this blessing from the person above all of us. Knowing that a new life is within me, I cannot feel anything but pure joy.” Mercedes answered, rubbing her tummy gently. 

“Let’s do our best to give the baby the best life we could ever give.” 

“Of course. That’s the thing that we can do, and let’s make our baby feel all the love in  the world.” Mercedes said. 

After a few hours of driving, the couple arrived at the farm. They tried to stay as calm as possible, but everyone at the farm was waiting for them already. They already set up everything, and they prepared a feast. 

“Congratulations!” Everyone shouted at the couple. They cannot control their emotions but happiness was overflowing within them. To think that the people around them celebrated the coming of their baby. Who would have thought that they would feel like this to people who are not really blood related to them. 

“Oh my goodness. We are really happy for you, Sir Roman and Ma’am Mercedes.” Cynthia said and hugged Mercedes. The couple was surprised, but they understood that everyone was happy. 

“Finally, we will have our little prince on the farm.” Austin said. 

“Wait up, I think the baby has no gender yet, right?” Cynthia said, tapping Austin’s shoulders. 

“That’s right, we still don’t know. We still don’t know if it will be a prince or princess.” Roman said, 

“By the way, we called the shaman to bless us again for this thanksgiving tonight.” Austin said, 

“Thank you. I was about to ask you to do that, but you sure are really reliable.” Roman said. 

The four of them continued to walk and reached where everyone was gathered. The staff and workers kept on congratulating the couple. That night, the air was filled with pure happiness.
