Chapter 120

The sound that they were supposed to hear was not echoing in the delivery room. Roman froze on where he was standing, his knees wobbling with weakness. He cannot help but tears run down on his face. 

The doctor looked at the couple, and her eyes were covered with sadness too.

“What happened? Why is everyone silent? Where is my baby?” Mercedes asked. 

Roman looked at his wife, wiping the tears on his face. Mercedes was trembling even more as she saw the reaction of his husband. The doctor tried to revive the baby, but in the end she gave up. Mercedes cried in despair as the nurses told her to calm down.

Roman just stood in the delivery room, looking at his baby. There were no signs of life coming from the newborn. He slowly walked towards the baby. His heart was shattered into pieces as he got closer to his child. 

“What did we do to deserve this? This is only our wish. You can take back our wealth, but let my child leave.” Roman said as he held the little fingers in his hands. 

At the same time, the storm stopped as everything lit up again. The dark skies brightened, without the trace of the storm. What was left was only the damage that it caused. Roman looked at the baby again and noticed something fluttering beside the kid. He brushed his eyes to make sure what he was seeing was true. The little light flickered and went towards his baby’s chest. It was a firefly. 

As soon as it landed on his baby, everyone in the room was shocked. The sound that they were wishing to hear resonated inside the room. The cry of a newborn echoed all over the place. Surprised, the doctor hurried to the baby and checked the vital signs.

The baby continued to cry as the doctor checked. Roman couldn't believe what he saw. Is this a miracle? He looked around but couldn't see the flickering light. He remembered what his wife told her, and what the shaman said. 

It was those fireflies at the mango orchard, the one that Mercedes saw. 

The doctor carried the baby towards Mercedes. With a little ounce of strength, she tried to lift her body up and Roman rushed towards his side. The grief that they felt earlier was replaced with joy. The couple cannot help but cry in happiness this time. 

Mercedes and Roman felt surreal as they watched their baby. 

“Do you already have a name for your baby boy?” The nurse said, 

Roman looked at his wife, telling her to decide to give the name to the baby. 

“Since we consider the baby as our miracle, and our only ray of light. I hope our child will bring happiness to everyone around him, that’s why we will name him Sun.” Mercedes said, 

“Yes, our Sun. Our little sunshine.” Roman said. 

The news reached the farm about the successful delivery of the baby and everyone was so happy. Cynthia, who saw the newborn Sun was really happy. She cannot contain her emotions as well. He saw how her boss really wished to have a child of their own, now everything went true. 

All what’s left for them to do was to make sure that the kid will grow up happy and healthy. Cynthia told herself that she will watch over the kid, and promised that she will treat Sun as her own child. 

After a few days when Mercedes recovered, they decided to be discharged at the hospital and went back to the farm. Everyone was so excited to see them return. The farm became happier with the kid’s arrival.

Time passed by, and Sun grew up to be an exceptionally healthy kid. He was loved by everyone around him. Like his name, he radiated positive energy, and wanted his company. He was also talented and smart. 

Everything that Roman and Mercedes wished came true.
