Blue Hour

Chapter 119

Roman was getting impatient and worried already. An hour already passed and there was still no news about his wife. Roman cannot calm down, without knowing how his wife and baby will be. He kept on walking back and forth outside the delivery room. 

On the other hand, the storm was really getting stronger. The news on the radio said that they are almost near the eye of the storm and gave a warning. It doesn’t mean that once the storm calms down, everything is okay. They stated that they need to stay vigilant, as once the eye of the storm passes, everything will be even worse. 

“Nurse, do you have any updates on my wife and baby?” Roman asked, as the nurse came out of the delivery room. 

“Your wife is still laboring, and don’t worry Sir, we will make sure your baby and wife will be safe. One more thing, your wife requested you to be inside of the delivery room.” The nurse answered. He asked Roman to follow him and gave him protective equipment. This will avoid having the delivery room contaminated, as it was also the protocol of many hospitals. 

As soon as Roman entered, his heart felt weak seeing his wife in pain. The doctor was asking Mercedes to calm down and push harder. Roman walked towards his wife's side and held her hand. 

“My dear, I am here already. Don’t worry, you can do this.” Roman said, encouraging his wife. 

“Thank you, My dear.” Mercedes said, trembling with pain. She was already losing energy. 

Mercedes was already having a hard time with labor as the water bag exploded in the car earlier. The purpose of the water bag was to help the pregnant woman to have an easy delivery. And as the doctor said, because of Mercedes age, she will really have a hard time. The doctor kept on telling Mercedes to calm down and follow her rhythm. 

Roman was getting teary eyed as she saw his wife in pain. If he could only share the pain with his wife, he would gladly accept it. The once silent morning again became loud as the storm had it’s second round. Meaning, the eye of the storm had already passed and then, and the tail was playing in their area. The shutters became so noisy as the wind kept on banging them. 

The light was flickering, but the hospital already foresaw this and prepared beforehand. They made sure that they had generators running to keep the electricity flowing and avoid  having power issues. 

Thirty minutes felt like several hours as Mercedes was still in the labor phase. The doctor wanted to have a normal delivery, and so did Mercedes. 

“Breathe in and breathe out.” The doctor said, giving Mercedes a rhythm to follow. 

Roman can feel that Mercedes was tightening her grip on his hands. His knees were already getting weak, as he cannot really take it anymore. His wife is in pain, and he is worried about his baby. 

“I can see the head already, Mercedes. Keep pushing.” The doctor said, 

Roman felt relieved but everything was far from over. They need to make sure that the baby will be delivered safely. Mercedes kept on gathering her strength, and slowly the baby was getting out. 

“You can do it, Mercedes.” The doctor said. 

After hours of labor, the baby finally went out, but everyone in the room became silent. The sound that they were supposed to hear was not echoing in the delivery room. Roman froze on where he was standing, his knees wobbling with weakness. He cannot help but tears run down on his face. 

The doctor looked at the couple, and her eyes were covered with sadness too.
