“Are you okay?” I asked Austin, as he was avoiding looking at me.
“It’s nothing, Sir. I was just nervous about talking to my boss.
I just smiled at him to lessen the awkwardness we are having now. I can feel that he was sort of hiding something from me. Well, since I am new here, I can’t blame them for not trusting me instantly even though I am their boss.
“So, where do we begin?” I asked.
“Let’s go ahead and check the surroundings around the farm. I hope I can explain everything to you properly.”
“That’s okay, Austin. You can just give me a brief explanation for each part here on the farm. It will take us a whole day if you explain bit by bit. I don’t want to disturb you with other things that you need to do.” I said, smiling at him.
I can still feel that he is trying to fix his composure. What does he know about Sun? We started walking around the farm.
“First, we will talk about how we can tell the weather. That is one of the most important parts if you own a farm.” Austin said and pointed at the sky.
I looked above and it was really pretty. It was relaxing to watch.
“How can we do that?” I asked.
“As for farmers like us, we cannot always rely on the news report. Sometimes, it might be inaccurate. So to avoid being startled by the sudden change in weather, there are some ways we can do that.” Austin said and pointed at the plants.
“First, we can tell it using the morning dew on the grass.”
“Morning dew? How is that?” I took out my notebook and wrote it down to make sure that I will get it right.
“If there is a heavy dew on the leaves of the grass, it means that there are no strong winds that are drying it off. It indicates that there is no bad weather that is coming.”
I can feel my ears tingle. All this information is new to me and my curiosity is getting higher than usual. Austin noticed and he smiled at me. It felt like I was a kid hungry for knowledge. We continued walking and he explained to me everything that I needed to know. It was such a refreshing thing to do.
I did not notice that it was already late in the afternoon when we finished. I was able to meet everyone on the farm, especially what their roles were. It was a fun thing to do. I headed to the kitchen and Miko was eating there happily already.
I approached him and sat down beside him.
“So, how are you today?” Miko asked me and laughed.
“Well, I had loads of fun walking around. It was refreshing.” I said.
“That’s good to hear then. You did not even bother to check on me in the office. I got flooded with calls from your other business. Well, there are some problems, I’ll discuss it with you tomorrow.” Miko said and continued to eat.
“By the way, Cynthia, do you know a person named Sun?” I asked.
I was pretty sure when she heard that name, she froze in his tracks. She had the same reaction as Austin after hearing Sun’s name.
“Uh, Sir, I don- don’t know a person named Sun. Where did you meet him?” Cynthia stuttered.
“Uh, nothing. I just heard the name somewhere.” I lied.
“O-okay Sir, have some of this.” She placed the soup beside me and almost spilled it’s contents on me.
“Are you okay?”
“Uh. Yes sir. I am okay.”
Everytime they hear the name Sun, their reaction always changes. What could be Sun’s relationship with them?
