Blurb

She remembers getting dragged further and further away from the throne room, towards her death. She can vaguely make out his face; cold and distant like usual. It’s impressive how he remains unaffected by the sight of her being handled this way, as if she wasn’t his wife.

But such is the life of a person living in the inner palace. She’s learning this the hard way. To make matters more pitiable, this person does not even have an ounce of noble blood in her veins. She was a simple commoner in the country side that was only allowed into the prince’s palace to cover up a mistake done due to a lapse of judgement. Because the prince is a righteous and just man, he took responsibility and married her.

She supposes she had this coming. She failed to consider the fact that even though she was his wife, she was no more than a leech in the eyes of those who desired him and the power he possesses. An unwanted thorn on the side. She was naïve and foolish and easily manipulated, who would want to pass up the chance? The companions that she thought would help her in her time of need turned out to be the snakes that bit her heel.

Before sleep grabbed its complete control, she whispered to the air, “Let me dream for a while.”

She woke up with a scream that puts howler monkeys to shame.

Full Synopsis
The only one who remained by her side died before she can even save him. Is this what they call “having your life flash before your eyes”? “This is your cell.” The knight said as he lightly pushed her inside the room. He’s one of the newer recruits and was still learning the ropes on how to properly handle an unwanted—“You will be staying here until your execution.” She could hear him hesitate on whether he should still call her by her once-title. Your Highness. She didn’t reply. She doubts he was expecting her to. As soon as she stepped inside, the door was closed with a soft bang. She looked around her temporary abode; a bed, a sink, a mirror. The mirror was enchanted with magic so she can’t break it if she wanted to escape or maybe even think of killing herself before her actual time of death. She sat down on her temporary bed and stared at the closed door. One day that door will be opened and she will finally meet her maker…the devil. She huffed out a chuckle, amused for even trying to joke at this time. She lied down and began what she had usually done during those nights alone. Normally she’d have a pen and paper to jot it down but she would have to make do with what she has. Besides, isn’t the brain an endless blank canvass? You can do anything, be anything in a world the way that’s a far cry from reality. How nice would it be if God would grant me mercy? To take pity on someone like me. I was young and foolish when I was thrown into the lion’s den. As if God was listening, a white dove landed on the spaces between the bars of the window. It looked like it was looking down at her, tilting its head left to right. Before sleep grabbed its complete control, she whispered to the air, “Let me dream for a while.” She woke up with a scream that puts howler monkeys to shame.
