Chapter One
The baby monitor went off around two am. Wailing sounds from his small infant son could be heard in his room. He groans as he waits a moment to wake up. He was not used to waking to anyone. He normally woke when he wanted to. If that was four am for a snack. Or to fly to Paris for some fun at midnight he had his pick. Not these days. "I am coming! I am coming!" Donovan grumbles. He gets out of bed. Reaches over to turn on the light at his night stand, the brightness blinds him momentarily. He groans. It was far too early for this s**t. He never expected or planned to be a parent. It sort of happened. Just a few weeks ago. An elder lady dropped a baby off at his door step. Insisted this baby was his. That the mother had passed away giving birth to the child. After having the baby tested it turned out that the baby was his indeed. A little boy. Off spring from a heated one night stand. Now he was facing the life of being a single father. He got on his slippers. Then waddled out half asleep to the nursery where he had tried to get his son to sleep for the night. "There there...little guy" he yawn as he picks up his wailing son. He never had baby sat before in his life. He had taken free parenting classes to learn how to care for his son. His parents were pissed at him for these turn of events. They were more upset that this made their image look badly. That their son had a bastard son. Donovan soon found what the little man was fussing about. He was wet. Of course. Donovan carries his son over to the changing table he had bought at Cosco. He reaches over grabbing a Pampers diaper. The wipes to. His son began to grin at him now. Fussing a little less. Hs son began to kick his little legs on him. "Come on Evan. Make this easy on your old man will you?" begs a hopeless Donovan. He attempts to lift the flap on the diaper. He winces waiting for it. So far so good. Little boys often tended to get you right in the face. Donovan had learned that the hard way many times. "That's my boy" chuckles Donovan. He wipes his son off. Removes the dirty wet diaper like a pro. Then goes to place the fresh diaper on. Suddenly as he turns to toss the dirty diaper in the diaper genie the hose goes freely. Hitting Donovan right in the eye. "s**t!" Donovan grumbles as he struggles to cover the hose with the clean diaper. He holds down the fort as he reaches for another clean diaper. "Try number two son. Are we done yet?" asks Donovan. His son grins as he kicks his little legs in the air with excitement. Donovan wished he had half that energy. Donovan removes the new dirty diaper. He sighs when he sees his son was done. He successfully changes him in time. He had to work in his father's office the next morning. He was going to be a zombie the next day. He could already tell. At least his father's office had free day care. Maybe he could catch a nap in the office the next day. He was just about done when his son begins letting out a blood cursing wail once again. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ "Come on son! Don't you want your old man to get any sleep tonight?" begs Donovan. He sighs knowing the answer to this already. "Come on what do you want now? You are all clean..." he groans. Maybe his son was hungry again. He carried his boy to the kitchen to make up a bottle. He turned on the lights. His little dog, Norton woke up. Norton was a little Jack Russell. A smart little breed. Norton too was getting used to this change of settings in their life style. Norton's little white and speckled ears perk up when he hears the baby's cry echo in the home. Donovan rummages in his home to find baby bottles. He finds them. His large fingers grasp at the tiny little bottles. Knocking over the rest to the floor making Norton jump back with surprise. Donovan rushes to get the distilled water from the fridge. He gets out the baby formula. He makes a bottle up as fast as he could go. He shakes up the formula. Then heats water in a pan. Places the bottle in the pan to heat up. "Shhh, I am sorry I am out of milk dude. But you just have to wait a little longer" Donovan talks to his son. He checks the bottle. It was luke warm now. "Perfect" he says he heads on over to the couch. He feeds his son. "So it is breakfast time huh? A little early for me. Your old man does not even do breakfast" Donovan yawns as he watches his son down a bottle quickly. He knew he had to stop in the middle of the feeding to burp the little man. So he stops in the midst of the feeding. He leans Evan on his shoulder to burp him. Evan was not a happy camper to have to stop eating. Donovan rubs his son's back until he hears a successful belch. "Like a pro" laughs Donovan. He yawns as he allows his son to eat some more. His son soon polishes off the bottle. Within seconds Evan begins to wail once more. "Come on little dude. I can't keep up with your all-nighters" grumbles Donovan. "What is wrong now?" he moans. He felt like wailing right along with his son. He walked Evan around. Bouncing him on his arm like they taught him. Nothing was working. Maybe a car ride? He was not sure what to do. Or how to calm his own son!! His mother was right. He needed help. That was a given. "Please go to beddy by" begs Donovan. Nothing was working. At last a horrid smell comes from his son. "Really dude?" groans Donovan. He could tell this was going to be one long night. He rushes to the changing station once again. It amazed him to see how many diapers that his little man could go through! He was going to lose millions to Pampers. He quickly changes his son. Then the crying fest still went on strong. This little man was not giving up. Donovan did not know what his son wanted. "Binky? Want this? Come on try it" Donovan begs as he gets out a pacifier from the diaper back. Norton places his paws over his ears letting out a whimper to. Donovan sits back on the couch trying to get his son interested in going to bed. "Rock a bye baby....go to sleep now. If you don't dad will go to hell...." Donovan grumbles to himself as he tries to calm his son. Norton whimpers again not liking the sound his new human was making. He suddenly heads over to the chair across the room. He finds a little baby blanket. He places the blanket in his mouth. Then heads on over to Donovan.             "Think this will really work buddy?" Donovan asks his pooch. He takes the blanket from the dog. He hands the blanket to his crying son. His son cuddles up to the blanket. Soothing the crying. It settled and stopped. The storm was over. Donovan sighed. "Maybe you should be the nanny around here Norton" jokes Donovan. Norton wags his tail at Donovan. He leaps on the couch and circles in spot to get cozy beside Donovan for the rest of the night. Donovan wanted to place his sleeping son back in his crib. But he was scared to move. He decided to give in and sleep on the couch for the night along with Norton. It was sure going to be one long night. •♥•♥•♥•♥•♥•♥•♥•♥•
