when the darkness fades

chapter 6

The drive to Luca’s house was a silent and peaceful drive. I just sat there and took in the scenery I know it was just trees but there was something about them that made them just beautiful.

We pulled up in a driveway to the most gorgeously breath-taking house I had seen, well from what I could remember anyway. Grammy and I got out of the car and as we walked up to the front door, it flung opened and I was wrapped up in a warm embrace from my Uncle Drake, he was my dads younger brother. 

I quickly wrapped my arms around him too, ‘You’re going to stop her breathing if you don’t let her go’ a growl came through but it was a rough voice it was a gentle and kind one, Drake let me go and behind him was Luca, I ran and to him and he caught me in a giant hug, I felt like I was home now seeing my uncles which from what I can remember I haven’t seen in a while and I couldn’t figure out why. ‘I think I’ll ask them at dinner’ I thought to myself. 

While still in a Luca hug I heard this all mighty ear piecing scream, like someone was being attached or something, Luca immediately let go of me, then I seen her dark eyes staring at me like she wanted to hurt me really bad or even kill me. Luca went and pulled her into him and spoke softly to her, to which she started to calm down, when she was fully calm he brought her over to where Grammy and I was and introduced me.

 ‘ Indy, this is Cassy my wife!’ Luca said, my head was going around and around what had I missed, Luca noticed my strange look ‘We haven’t seen you in a while Indy and a lot has happened since then’ he said. Cassy noticed it too and offered an apology for screaming as we had never meet she thought I was trying to get it on with her Husband that word came across like it was wrong but who was I to judge I could barely remember anything so I shrugged it off. Luca and Cassy lead us into the lounge room where they had set out some refreshments before dinner. I went to the bathroom and when I came back there was no one there, but I could hear faint voices coming from the kitchen area so I went to walk over and over heard my name so I tip toed as quiet as I could so I could hear them more clearly,

‘Why did you introduce me as your wife and not as your mate, Luca and why does she have a funny smell about her?’ Cassy asked, I smelt myself as I kept listening, I didn’t have a bad smell, I smell like the bath gels that Grammy had left in my bath room but I thought to myself that Cassy might not like the bath gel I used.

 ‘Indiana doesn’t remember anything not from where she comes from who she was, pretty sure she doesn’t remember her fathers accident or mothers for a matter of fact’ Grammy said. ‘But wasn’t she in the accident that took her mother’ asked Cassy, ‘Yes’ Luca said quietly, as he is walking towards the door.

I was moving slowly backwards trying to process what I heard, where I come from that was unusual thing to say but I tried not to let it distract me I will question Grammy in the morning. Luca came to the kitchen door and gestured for me to enter the kitchen, ‘Dinner is ready’ he said. I followed him in, Cassy gave me a small smile which I returned. 

We all sat down to dinner, which was beautifully set up, with every mouth-watering thing you could thing of, steak, wings, baked vegies, freshly baked bread. We eat plated up and sat down and started the dinner conversation. Luca told me how he and Cassy met and now he runs the family business but didn’t get into what he actually did but I didn’t mind I didn’t need to know he’s working life.

 Cassy told me that they couldn’t wait to start a family and was glad that I was now back in Luca’s life, Drake told me he was seeing a girl but was waiting to see if it was serious by the look in his eyes when he spoke of her it was on his end which I thought was kind of cute in a way. I wish one day someone would look like that when they spoke of me.

 Drake seen me and must have read my mind “Indy some guy would be lucky to have you and he will treat you like the queen you are!’, thanks I replied not that I’m looking right now, he gave me a smile and we continued eating our dinner. We where talking after dinner and the subject of family came up and Drake, Grammy and Luca all looked at me as if I was going to break, I said they can talk about anything in front of me, I may be fragile but I’m not mad out of glass.

 I know that they didn’t want to upset me knowing that I didn’t have both of my parents, but I did have family I had them and I knew they would do anything to protect me, even if I didn’t know that I needed protecting. We finished dinner and was getting ready to leave, we hugged everyone I did not hug Luca for as long as what I did when I first entered as I didn’t want to upset Cassy any further.

Grammy and I walked to the car, I turned and gave a small wave before getting into the car, I still had the smile on my face as we drove away. When we got home, I told Grammy I was going to have a quick shower and then might go to bed ‘Goodnight sweet Indy’ Grammy called to me from the kitchen. I walked into my room, I had a strange feeling like someone had been in there, nothing was moved but they where there. I just put it down to Grammys house mate coming in to put something in here, so I shook it off.

 I grab my pajamas and went to the bathroom and turned the shower on and got undressed and got in, after a few minutes I got out and got dressed and went to bed, I pulled the blankets over me and was comfortable as soon as I laid down, I was asleep.
