when the darkness fades

My heart sank when I heard the news, there had been another accident. It had been all over the news but it wasn’t until the camera zoomed in on a girls face that I realised that I knew that girl, she was a part of me, she was my granddaughter. I was pulled away from the news by my phone ringing, it was son Drake, my other son as I had already lost my middle son to an accident almost 16 years ago. ‘mum, did you hear the news’ he asked, yes was all I managed still trying to figure out what is going on. ‘Mum’ Drake said, ‘she is on her way to the hospital, the human hospital what are we going to do’, there was only one thing I could do so after hanging up the phone I made the heart breaking call to my eldest son, Alpha Luca. 

He answered ‘Mum, I don’t have time’, ‘Please Luca make time for this’ I said, he must have heard the hurt in my voice, ‘ok, mum you have my attention for 5mins’, I held my breath because I need less then that to tell him what I need to tell him. I said as gently as I could ‘Luca, its Indiana, it was her involved in the accident that has been all over the news’, there was silence after I finished, I knew he was still there, after a minute or two he came back to the conversation and asked what he could do, I asked if there was anyway that we could get a pack doctor in the human hospital as that was where she was going to. 

He went quite again, then came back and said it was done, one of the doctors worked there on certain days as he was one of the best. I was relieved to hear that she had one her own looking after her. ‘Mum’ Luca asked, ‘Yes’ I replied, ‘is she coming home, I mean will she becoming home when she gets better’, ‘Luca hunnie, if I had my way she wouldn’t have never had left’, I knew he liked that answer, we said our goodbyes and I grabbed my bag and made my way to the hospital. I felt a strangeness as I entered, I kept my guard up, I walked over to the nurses station and asked where Indiana Blackwood was, the nurse gave me a strange look how could I forget her mother remarried, so I repeated Indiana Grey. 

The nurse told me what room and I made my way there. No sooner I was at the door that when I see him with his hands on her, ‘Take you hand off her or I will, it’s your choice’ I. ‘You don’t own her’ he said still with his hand on her arm, ‘ I have already asked you once I will not ask you again to get your hand off her, and I will not answer your question’ she said. The man dropped his hand away from her which I was glad he did as I didn’t want to make a scene seeing as most if not all of them where human. The man walked past me with a smug look on his face that I really wanted to wipe off, but humans are looking. So I let him walk out he will get what’s coming to him soon enough.

After he left I went and sat with her she looked so beautiful and peaceful, I just hope she wasn’t in any pain.
