I was sitting in the hospital bed next to a sleeping Sam. He was so exhausted. He told me that he could barely sleep for an hour while I laid in the bed. The uncertainty of me not waking haunted him. Now that I was awake and alright I was able to get him to lay down and relax. There was a quiet knock on my door. Cracking it open Allison poked her head into the room. When she saw me sitting there her eyes lit up.
“Oh good you awake.” She called as she bounded into the room. Alex following behind her holding a basket full of my favorite chocolates and other sweets. Tied to the basket when balloons all saying some variation of get well.
“Shh '' I told her with my finger to my lips. I pointed to Sam who was still sound asleep. She nodded and turned to Alex signaling for him to be quiet. Alex rolled his eyes at her as he set the basket down on the little table next to my bed. Alex leaned over and gave me a huge. I never noticed how strong his cologne was. I made a face at him. He gave me a questioning look.
“You stink” I whispered to him. Alex held in his deep laugh.
“Still getting used to the new sense I see” he whispered back. We all held in our laughter. Allison came over next and gave me a huge. She looked over at the sleeping Sam and shook her head.
“It’s about time he slept. Do you want to go get some food?” She whispered. I nodded but before moving I showed her the secure arm that was wrapped around me.
“I kind of can’t move” I explained to them. Alex got that evil glint in his eye that I know all too well. Alex leaned over into my ear.
“On three move quickly,” he told me. I gave him a nod then watched him count to three. Once he did I quickly moved and Alex took my place. Sam’s arm securely wrapped around him now. He reclined back and shooed us away. I took my chance dashing to the door with a giggling Allison.
Once we were in the hall we both busted out laughing.
“Oh boy wish I could see Sam’s reaction when he wakes up.” She told me through her laughter.
“Me too but I’m starving. I have been trapped in that bed for almost an hour now.” We both erupted into laughter once more. We made our way down the hall towards the cafeteria.
“So how do you feel?” Allison asked as we got in line.
“Honestly I feel great. Allison I wanted to thank you. For everything.” I noticed how everyone in the big room was now looking at us. Whether they were just stealing glances or just full on staring.
“Sasha you don’t have to thank me. What was I supposed to do? Let my favorite Beta die. That was not going to happen.” She said slinging an arm around my shoulders.
“You know everyone is staring at us, right?” I told her. She looked around the room as if just noticing everyone else. With a single shrug of the shoulder she said.
“Maybe it’s because you are killing that hospital gown.” I had completely forgotten I was still wearing this hideous thing. Thankful now that I put on a pain of black sweatpants earlier, or else my but would be on full display. I laughed at her joke. This gown was ridiculous. It was pink with small poke a dots on it. Held to my body with string tied behind my neck.
We moved through the line quickly not saying a word. That’s one of the things I liked about Allison. Unlike some girls she didn’t feel the need to talk twenty four seven. She was someone you could hang out with without getting a migraine. Once we picked out a spot to sit I immediately dove into my plate. After a few bits Allison set down her fork. Clearing her throat she asked.
“Sasha would it be alright if I tried something with you?” Her question caught me off guard. I set down my fork and finished chewing before replying.
“Sure Ally, what are you going to do?”
“Just sit there and you will see.” She told me. I did what I was told and sat there. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths. Soon I heard something but it wasn’t coming from anyone in the room. Rather another voice in my head.
‘Sasha can you hear me?’ It was Allison, she was in my head. So this is what its like to talk through a link. I heard her laugh in my head and her eyes opened.
‘Yes, Sasha this is what it's like.’ Now it was my turn to ask the questions.
“How is it possible? I haven't been accepted into the pack, and unless you did the ceremony while I was asleep, which I would be very mad at you for, neither are you.” She laughed again.
“No, Sash I have not but I am the one that turned you. So immediately we have a link. Just like because you and Sam are mates and you have found each other. You two have a link.”
“Oh cool, so when is your ceremony?”
“Well Ryan wanted us to do it soon after the battle, but I wanted to wait for you to wake up. So now that you are awake we can finally pick a date.”
“Aww thanks Allie. You are going to do great. Everyone has practically accepted you already. So you won’t have to prove too much.”
“Hey I was thinking would you want to do the ceremony with me? It would be great if we both were brought into the pack on the same night.” I thought about this for a moment. Was I ready for that? The pack ceremony was usually done solo. It was a time when that wolf would be judged on how well they can provide and protect the pack.
“Are you sure it’s not against some rule?” I asked, Allison shook her head while giving me a smile.
“They used to do the ceremony in groups all the time. It will be fine unless you don’t want to, that's okay.”
“No, no I want to. It sounds like it will take the stress off a bit.”
“My thoughts exactly.” She said, giving me a smile. My smile faded as I felt his presence enter the room. I knew Allison felt something because she immediately looked to the door. Before I could look Sam was next to me.
“That was a very mean trick.” He told me, giving me a dirty look.
