A Beta's + Mate

Chapter 5

Sitting in front of her dressing table’s mirror already dress up in a Royal Blue satin strapless long sleeve gold beaded v neck gown her mind went back to the day before with Stella catching her off guard with Jane as her surprise. 

Jane and her go way back in childhood when they attended Liberty kindergarten, they were the besties of besties not until they met Stella in high school and then Emma in the University. They have all been close together but Jane was the one who was closest to her she was like her other sister, until she lands a crush on one of her brother when they were in Uni. 

Veronica didn’t approve it she told her it would be okay if were human but then there is someone who has already destined for their kind. 

Her brother was not for her, she didn’t encourage her friend which made Jane disheartened and turn away from their group of friends. Its funny 3 years later now and all is forgotten and gone, her talk with Jane yesterday has smooth things out, they now are back to normal. 

She’s happy and has said thank you to her friend for not pushing the relationship that far and rather remain as a crush. If it wasn’t for Veronica she would be filled with regret now, since her mate was the best thing that happens to her life, now adding on is their bundle of joy. 

Even Veronica herself did not regret the decision she made except she’s hurt and broken due to something that only her brothers know and no one would ever know her demons.

 She will tell it once she’s ready, she didn’t want to talk or thought about it. 

“Hey the girls are here?” Cade came in the room but he stopped “wow, even without make-up you my sister looks more than amazing.” 

He said walking towards her “now there’s one thing missing” he stood behind her, taking out from his pocket a small box “this will complete your look, and by the way Happy Birthday in advance.” 

She was surprised to see the gold pearl necklace, it looks so elegant and beautiful, which she eagerly let her brother put it on her. 

Yes 5 more hours to go and then she will turn 25, nobody knows that except Amy and her brothers. 

“Thank you Cade, this is perfect, thank you.” 

She turns around and gave him a big hug “now don’t let your dress be ruined, come on let’s go now.” 

She saw Stella all glow in her nude high slit flowers appliqued gown, her red hair falls on her shoulder. Emma is all looking sexy in a long sleeves bateau satin floor-length red gown, she just returns from the bathroom straightening her dress. There was something that Veronica knew is a bit off about her but she just ignores it thinking it’s nothing. 

Her friends look at her with amusement “you know if I was a guy I would definitely date you and I would never care about your mate, or just scratch that and date me instead.” She laughs at Stella’s joke “too bad that I’m straight,” they all laugh again and got in to their limo, they heard Cade calling after them to take care. 

They stopped in front of a luxury modern stylish mansion, there were a lot of limos and expensive cars parked in the front. They all giggle and were excited to be at the ball and take the center of the stage. 

The car stopped and a butler open the door with his hand towards the girls, Stella was the one who got out first then Emma. Veronica became nervous she tried to breathe out, it was her first time going to event like these. She heard someone cough the butler extend his hand again, this time she took his hand and stepped out of the car. 

Everything seems to be freeze in place. She didn’t like the attention she received but she tries to smile and not mind it. Her friends were two step before her and she tried to breathe really hard and hide her nervousness. 

They reach a ball room, she could see all alphas and their luna, beta and their beta female, even the gammas and Delta. All mix together which she couldn’t figure out, who is who and which is which, she may have met some but due to the fact that she couldn’t recognize people easily therefore everyone are strangers to her except for her friend. 

She grasps a wine from the waiter before making her way to where Stella and Emma were, all eyes turn to her, this made her took a sip and try to avoid the awkwardness. “I can see you got the attention tonight from the mate less wolves,” Stella said “and the ones who are mated” Emma chirped in. 

“See Alpha Lyndon, Raymond, Zane who already have Lunas are still staring,” she said while pointing her fingers to their direction and laugh out loud. 

“If I hadn’t found my mate I would really get jealous tonight despite the hottie Mason I met at the club my mate was so so hot not only his features but also in bed. f**k despite my first time but he took me to heaven and made me a s*x maniac. Anyways count me out in your black list book tonight” 

“You found your mate” both Stella and Veronica look at her with jaw drop.

 “My darlings don’t let the beetles in your pretty mouths, it would be embarrassing tonight” they both crashed her in to a hug “girls I can’t breathe.” 

“I’m so proud of my daughter” said Stella, “seriously I can’t breathe” they finally let her go. “I think it’s a call for celebration” Veronica grabbed another two drinks from the waiter and pass it to the girls. 

“Hello beautiful” she turns to find a well-built man, with a dark brown hair, she smiles at him “I’m Argo and may I get your name” she felt her friends push her towards him which made her embarrassed luckily he catches her “sorry about my friends.” 

“It’s okay, I’m Argo Alpha of the Enquixster pack” he introduced himself again. 

“Veronica Hazel Gordon just a rep for the Nightfall pack” he smirks at her. 

They get along well she danced with him and saw that all eyes were on hers again, she even gets to dance with other Alpha, Beta and Gamma from other packs. She felt her legs grew tired, she couldn’t find any of her friends around. She needed to breathe the attention made her grew weary. 

She walks through an extensive door to go out she wasn’t even looking up not until she collided with a hard chest, which made her wince in pain touching her forehead. 

She felt two arms holding her steady igniting a sparks through her whole body, the wind blows and that’s when his scent became stronger. She almost fainted but decided to hold her ground, with all the drama of the night and the mixture of scent made her forgot his scent. 

Tilting her head up she met his hazel eyes, his jet black hair in a modern comb-over style. He was tall, by the look of his body she could figure his abs, the whole description for him was perfect since he was freaking handsome, sexy and hot. 

She instantly snaps out of it, he removed his hands from her shoulder. She felt her body shiver which she crosses her arms around herself biting her lip and giving him a smile.  

They stood in silence with his eyes remain on hers, which made her more nervous ‘isn’t he supposed to hug her, kiss her like what others mate do’ she thought to herself. 

They were both about to say something until a voice break the silence. 

“There you are babe, I’ve been looking all over for you,” she kissed on his cheek, this made her froze. 

Her smell was mixed with his scent she slowly observed her until her eyes settle on the mark on her neck. This made her wolf howl with pain but she ignores it and remain the smile on her face. 

She didn’t want him to see that she was sad and affected by his presence and hers. 

The smile was still lingering on her face “excuse me, have a good evening” she said and walk past through them. 

As she walks away from them the big all good smile slowly fades away and replaces with a sadness. Her heart beat getting weak from their encounter. She felt her wolf cry in pain that makes her really, really sad. She walks towards an excluded place where there is no sign of anybody around and seated by the pond there. 

She crossed her arms around herself looking up the sky, there were so many things she wanted to say and shout out but everything was too painful for her to even try. 

Checking on her gold wrist watch she saw that it was twelve o clock. She looks ahead of her and says to herself in a whisper with so much sadness in her voice 

“Happy Birthday.”
