Betrayal

2117 Words
(Jace)      The last few days have been absolutely awful. Having Luna so close to me, but not having her at the same time is the worst. I feel like a mouse left in a trap to only stare at my cheese and never be able to taste the sweet, delicious prize.        Lux walks into my room. “Good morning, Alpha.”      "Good morning, Beta.”      “Is there any news on your sister?”      “No news yet.”        “We’re gonna have a Pack meeting tonight. Make sure the Rogue is there.” He must be punished.I need to make that bastard pay for what he did to my sister. He should be the one in a coma right now, not Luna. He was the Beta. He should have protected his Pack. We leave no wolf behind, and that’s exactly what he did. Expulsion from the Pack wasn’t enough of a punishment, I need him to pay. I need to avenge my sister.      “Yes, my Alpha.” Jace leaves the room.        I decided to go to school today. I don’t really know why. I guess the Pup is rubbing off on me, making me wanna be a better person. I kinda like it. When I walk through the doors, I get so happy. I can smell his scent as I walk through the halls, but suddenly it’s corrupted. I smell something else as well. HIM. I walk through the hallway and see my beautiful Samuel standing with that disgusting w***e. I dart towards Samuel and grab his arm, pulling him away from that piece of s**t. Worst of all, he has his hand on Carson’s shoulder. I keep dragging him until we get to an empty classroom. He looks at me weird, but I don’t care. I just want to keep him away from Carson, so I go up and kiss him.   (Samuel)      Jace is really upset after everything. I feel really bad for him. I can’t imagine losing someone that important to me in the first place. Then, once we finally got her back, we learned that she is probably going to die. When we heard the news, I got scared. Jace clenched his arms around me, squeezing too tight. I could feel just how angry he was. Jace really wants to make Carson pay for it. He still blames Carson for everything that happened. He doesn’t understand that none of it was Carson’s fault. He doesn’t understand that Carson hurts as well. Carson has never been able to move past that day. I also know he still gets nightmares; he doesn’t really talk about them, but I know they are still really bad. I feel bad for all of them. It’s a really shitty situation, but this hatred isn’t going to solve anything.          Carson and I are talking at my locker. “I just feel bad. I wish I could do something.”       “Carson, I know how awful you feel about everything that happened. You tried to save her, but you couldn’t. You did what you thought was right at the time. You thought if you could get back in time that you would save her. You couldn’t have been sure that they would move away. You need to stop blaming yourself. It’s not your fault. If you need to blame anyone, it should be the Ursa Majors. That’s who kidnapped both of you. You need to forgive yourself.” I put my hand on his shoulder.      “Pup, let’s go.” He says, interrupting our conversation. I turn around and see Jace and Lux. Jace looks pissed. I can smell his pheromones. Anger has altered his scent a lot. I get really nervous.                    "Jace, I’m talking to Cars-“ Jace pulls my arm off of Carson’s shoulder and drags me away. “son.” I try to break free, but he’s using his Alpha strength against me. He keeps pulling me. “Ow! Jace. Jace! Stop it.”        I shake my arm loose once we get into an empty classroom. He growls at me with his eyes piercing from jealousy. Then, he kisses me. It feels good for a second, but then I push him off of me. He snarls at me. I slap him across the face.      “No! No, you will not. What the Hell was all of that?!” He stares at me until his eyes soften. He breaks from Alpha Jace and shows me the walls-down side of him I see from time to time.      “Samuel.” Hearing his voice lightly say my name still sends shivers down my spine. I look away from him. I see his body soften as well. “I’m sorry. It’s just- I just-“ I turn back toward him, waiting for an answer. My nostrils are flaring in front of him. He can tell I’m pissed. “I get jealous when I see you with him.”      “But Jace, you can’t do that.” Jace stiffens up again. “I am friends with Carson. I have known him for years.”      “I know. I just get jealous when I see you with him.” He tries to come near me, but I push him back.      “Jace, you don’t own me. Neither of you do. I’m my own person, and I make my decisions.” I storm away from him. I don’t want to deal with him anymore right now.      “Samuel, wait.” I keep going. I don’t look back at him.      “No!” I call as I keep away from him.   (Jace)      Samuel storms off. “Ugh!” How can he just storm off like that? I am the Alpha. Lux walks up next to me. “He just stormed away from me.”       “I’m sorry, my Alpha. I will make him pay.” Lux gets ready to attack him. I pull him back.      “No, that’s a bad idea.” I am so confused by Samuel. I don’t know why he still hangs out with that criminal. I don’t know how he can still be friends with him. I also don’t understand how he lowers my guard. I’ve slept with people and dated people, but no one has made me feel like Samuel has made me feel. No one has ever mattered as much as him to me. Then, seeing him in someone else’s embrace killed me.        “Alpha?” Beta says. I shake alert and look at him. “What do you want us to do?”      “Alert the Pack. We have a meeting tonight. I’ll let the Pup know.” Beta nods his head. “Also, kidnap the Rogue. He needs to be there for his sentencing.” I mind-link to Carson. ‘I know you're mad at me. I’m sorry, and you’re right. I’ll give you space if you want it, but there’s an emergency Pack meeting tonight and it’s really important that everyone is there.’   (Carson)      Samuel stormed back to me. He looks madder than he was at me once I told him all the secrets I was hiding from him. Is it bad that that makes me feel better about life? “I can’t believe Jace. Who does he think he is, manhandling me like that? Then, afterwards, he mind-links me about his damn emergency Pack meeting” That’s weird. Jace rarely holds any of those. I wonder what this one is about. “Anyway, are you feeling better?”      “Hm?” Samuel breaks me from my thoughts. “Yeah, I’m fine.”      “Good. Sorry, I’m suddenly so stressed about the meeting tonight. I don’t like how I feel right now. My stomach is in knots.”      “Well, I’m gonna pick you up after school and take you home as usual. Let me know what that Pack meeting is about? I want all the tea.” Samuel nods. Then, he rushes to class before the bell rings.        Sadly, the rest of the day is kinda boring, especially when Jace drags your best friend off with steam coming out of his head. It’s the 7th period. My class got out early, so I’m waiting for Samuel by the car for our usual ride home. The hairs on my neck raise. Something’s wrong. I snarl, as I smell 3 wolves behind me, two Deltas and… Lux. “What do you wa-“ I don’t finish my sentence cause they run up and trip me, sending my face straight into the pavement. “Ughh, d***s!” I spit blood on the pavement. They have me restrained, so I can’t fight back.        Lux is laughing as he gets closer to me. “Get away from me, Asswhole”      “Ouch. That’s some harsh words from a banished disgrace.”      “What are you talking about?”      “Sorry. I said too much. Take this now.” He shoves a cloth over my mouth. It’s Wolf’s Bane; it takes me back to all the nights I spent rotting in the prison cell. I flail and jolt, trying to break free. I try to make out sounds under the washcloth. I try to call out to Samuel, but it’s too strong and my mind is too panicked.   (Jace)      Beta let me know that the Rogue has been secured. I will finally get revenge on him for what he did to my sister. Justice will be preserved. Then, I realize I can take Samuel home and hopefully make him not as mad at me anymore since the Rogue is disposed of.        I see Samuel walk outside. My heart leaps out of my chest, and my wolf gets happy. It’s really confusing. He feels so much like my Mate, but my wolf hasn’t called out to him yet. I don’t have the full Mating bond yet. I wish we did though. I think he completes me. I hope the Goddess didn’t make the mistake of punishing him with Carson as his Mate. Just the thought of it makes me utterly disgusted. I stop spiraling into anger.        Samuel gets to the parking spot where Carson always parks and looks around. He looks over at me. I walk over, acting surprised. “Are you ok? Where’s Carson?”      “I don’t know. Doesn’t he always give you a ride home?”      “Usually yeah.”      “That’s so weird. Do you want me to give you a ride home? Or we can go get some food before the Pack meeting. I can make it up to you for being so mean earlier.” Samuel looks at me, contemplating what I just asked him.      “Sure, that’s fine. Just, never do that to me again.”      “I won’t. I will never hurt you again. I promise.”      We spend the rest of the day together. It’s really nice, but it’s finally time for the Pack meeting. Lux interrupts us talking in the Alpha tent. “Alpha, the Rogue is-“ He stops talking when I glare at him, signaling Samuel is in the room. . Samuel stares at me with wide, glaring eyes.      “Jace, what did you do?”      “What I had to do!” I snap at him. I care about him a lot, but I don’t understand how he can still feel for that Bastard.      “And you lied to me about it all.”      “I didn’t have a choice. He violated Pack law. The Beta’s job is to protect the lives of our Pack members. Our law dictates life for life. On that day, he betrayed us all.”      “No, he didn’t. You coward.”      “I am still your Alpha!” I command in my Alpha voice. Samuel lies speechless. “Beta, take him to the meeting.” Lux grabs his arms and drags him out of the Alpha tent. He continues to call out to me, but I tune him out.        I walk outside. The Rogue stands in the pit with his arms in chains coated in Wolf’s Bane, so he can’t escape though he tries. I raise my arms to silence the Pack who are calling out slurs and such to him. I look across from me where Samuel stands. He’s so mad at me. I hope one day he can understand why I did what I did. “Pack!” I command in my Alpha voice. The pack cheers in response. “Today, we avenge one of our wolves while punishing a wolf who betrayed our Pack. Today, justice will be served.” The wolves cheer again. “Carson Grey, you have been charged with violating the Law of the Pack. You betrayed us and left a wolf in the hands of our traitors. Now, she lies on the brink of death. Our laws demand life for life. As always you will have the right to defend yourself. On next Friday, the night of the full moon, you shall have a fight to the death with me.”
