Reconnecting

I stood by Haze at the rear vehicle as he shifted back to his human form and put on clothes that had been packed for him. I felt my family exit the vehicle, and gather together.

Haze grabbed my hand and kissed my forehead before we walked over to the group together. 

When we came into view, everyone stared before mom and dad ran over to me and wrapped me in a hug. Haze stepped aside, but only a little. I peeked over their shoulders and my brother was on his knees staring at me. I'm so thankful that Kate has been there for him this whole time. She kneeled next to Daniel and was rubbing his back. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan were staring, but had tears running down their cheeks. 

I patted mom and dad on their backs and they backed up a little. I smiled at them before walking over to my brother. I kneeled in front of him and put my hands on his cheeks. 

I put my forehead to his and all the sudden felt Angel calming him through our touch. 

"You're alive." He whispered. It broke my heart to hear the pain in his voice. 

"Yes, I didn't die. It was to protect you, all of you." I looked at everyone as I spoke.

"Young One, perhaps we should take everyone upstairs so there is more privacy." I met her eyes and nodded. 

Haze came over and took my hand, which of course made my family stare. He said, "Follow us."

Everyone did as we asked, although there were a few open mouths. Marian chuckled and I joined her. 

We brought them upstairs and led them to our living room. I motioned for everyone to sit before I took a seat next to Haze. 

"Young One, I'll find some food for everybody." She winked at me and I smirked, she just didn't want to join in on the awkward conversation I'm about to have. Jacob went with her. 

I turned back to everyone and took a deep breath. 

Me: This ought to be fun.

Angel: Ha ha, it's fine. I'm here and mate is here.

Dad pulled me out of my conversation with Angel, "Sweetie, are you alight?"

Everyone was staring at me, they must have thought I zoned out. 

"Yes, dad. I'm really good actually. There is a lot to share with you all, but first I would like to introduce you to my husband. This is Haze." I smiled and looked up at my mate. I knew it would shock everyone, but they would understand soon enough. 

Haze smiled at me and kissed my temple. "I look forward to getting to know you all, please know that I love Helen very much. She is my life, my whole world." He look at my parents and brother while he speaks. 

"Sis, what is going on?" Daniel says to me, he looks so worried and concerned. 

I smile to him and take another deep breath. "The main thing that you need to know is that there is a...being after me. He believes that I am a threat to him and will do anything he possibly can to destroy me." I stopped and let that settle with everyone. Haze growled a little and put his arm around me to pull me closer to him. 

Dad, Daniel, and Mr. Morgan all look angry and the ladies all just looked upset. 

"Who is this man? How could you be a threat to someone we don't even know?!" Dad was almost yelling when he finished. 

"This being's name is Marco, actually Daniel may recognize him. Marco indicated that he was trying to make friends with you." I looked at Daniel, but it was clear that he was confused. 

"I don't know a Marco, Helen." Kate took his hand and rubbed it with her free hand. I smirked a little, they didn't even know how much they meant to the other. 

"Marco is a demon, so whatever he says isn't trust worthy. I do know though that he has been keeping tabs on all of you." Okay, now I was getting looks from everyone. They think I'm crazy. 

I rolled my eyes and got up. I pushed the coffee table out of the way and stood in front of everyone. I looked up at the ceiling and wrinkled my nose, it was going to be a tight fit. 

I breathed deep and aloud my wings to grow. They all gasped and stared at my wings. 

"Marco believes I'm a threat to him because I am a threat to him."

Marian walked in just then and chimed in, "She was born with gifts that would destroy the evil that is rising from the demons. Her gifts were not meant to come forward until her last birthday, but she was alrighty very powerful when I came to her. She has since been gifted wings from the creator of the angels and a wolf from the moon goddess." They all looked at her with wide eyes and then back to me. I smiled as innocently as I could. 

"Yeah, werewolves are real too." I nodded at them. Not that anyone asked, but Marian went ahead and opened that can of worms. 

Kate got up and walked closer to me, "May I?"

I nodded to her and smiled as she brushed her fingers against my wings. 

"Helen, they're beautiful." 

"Thank you, Katie. The creator of the angels and the moon goddess both wanted to thank me for the part I will play in eradicating this evil. The moon goddess is the creator of the werewolves." 

Daniel comes over and joins Katie, "So you can fly and turn into a wolf? I'm a little jealous right now." The three of us laugh. 

"I have to say, it's pretty amazing. Although, I've been grounded for now. A demon came onto pack territory and almost found me with my wings out. Thankfully, my wolf, Angel, told me to shift just in time. Marco doesn't know where I am, he can feel my power, but my presence has been hidden from him. We need to keep it this way." 

Haze came over and pulled me to him, away from Daniel and Kate. "You'll be able to fly around all you want soon. You can still shift into your wolf though." 

All the sudden Haze is growling and I look up to see him glaring at Daniel. "Daniel, he thinks your challenging him. Stop looking at him like that." I look back to Haze and cup a cheek with one of my hands. I pull his head down a little so his attention is back on me. Our foreheads touch and soon Haze's eyes are back to normal. 

I take a moment to pull my wings in and then I turn and put my back against Haze's chest as he wraps his arms around me to hold me close to him. 

"Haze is a werewolf, he is also the alpha of the pack we are taking refuge in. Him being alpha means that this is his pack, he is the most dominant werewolf here and they all submit to him. I am his mate. This means that the moon goddess has literally connected my soul to his. They are drawn to each other, we belong with each other. Werewolves, both genders, are much more possessive of their other halves than humans are." I let that all sink in for a minute. 

My mom stood up and walked over to me, pulling me into her arms. "Honey, I am so glad that you are alright. This life agrees with you." She pulled back and pulled my ski mask off my head. I had pulled it up on the run here so it looked like a hat. "You changed your hair and you look so much healthier."

I smiled, "Marian changed my hair and clothing style so that I would be harder to spot. And when I was gifted my wolf, wings, and angel essence it was enough to heal my body. Angel, my wolf, says that I am all healed." Mom had tears in her eyes as she smiled at me. "Mom, don't cry." I pulled her in for another hug. 

"I'm so happy for you, honey. These are tears of joy. It was breaking my heart to see you in so much pain."

We pulled apart and Haze stepped forward, pulling me back into his embrace and an outstretched hand to my mom. "Mrs. Holt, your daughter will be loved and protected with me always." 

"You can call me Mary, this is my husband Bill." She motions for me dad to come over, which he does and they shake hands. 

I finish the introductions and we all sit back down. Marian had brought snacks out with her earlier, but no one had eaten a thing. I was close to starving from all the energy I burned earlier so I started eating some of the pizza rolls that had been made. They weren't hot anymore, but still fine to eat. 

Mr. Morgan speaks, "How long will we need to stay here and what are we going to do about the kids' schooling?" Motioning to Daniel and Kate. They had sat back down together and Katie looked like she was going to nod off soon. 

Marian answers since my mouth is full. "You will have to stay here until Marco is no longer a threat. I don't believe that it is common knowledge who Helen is and who her family is, but there are many who do know. We don't know when this war will take place, but this is the only way to keep you all safe." 

Haze picks up from here, "Daniel and Kate can attend our pack school. I'll have my Beta, who you met earlier, make the necessary arrangements with their old school. He will be able to keep their new school location confidential. As for all of your jobs, there isn't a way to safely get you to and from that location without getting noticed and followed. If you are able to take a sabbatical, that is probably the way to go. However, I own several companies that you would be able to work in if you choose."

"I think we can finish this discussion tomorrow." I nod over to Kate, who had fallen asleep on Daniel's shoulder. He looked down at her and I recognized the look in his eyes. He looks at her like Haze looks at me. I smiled and caught everyone's attention. They looked at me and then to Daniel and they all smiled. 

I stood up and led Daniel to a room where he could lay Katie in and then I led him to another room for him while Haze led our parents and the Morgans to their rooms. 

Haze and I walked to our room together. He wrapped an arm around me walked me over to my clothes so I could change. When we got into bed, we were both ready for a good night of sleep. 

"I love you, Haze."

"I love you, Baby."
