"Do you have a crush on Jetro?" Almira raised an eyebrow at me while waiting for my response. I didn't answer right away because I felt embarrassed. Am I obvious? Almira laughed and patted me on the shoulder. "It's okay, girl," she said, "girls really go after those friends." She took a sip of her coffee. I quietly ate the breakfast she had prepared. I stayed at her condo last night because Adrian brought my cousin Tasha along. It's a good thing I got to know him at the bar last night. She's with her brother, Alwin, who is a friend of Adrian, the father of Tasha's children. Wow! I cannot believe that such handsome men exist in the world. "They're the guys you need to avoid," warned Almira, which made me slightly pause. "All they know how to do is play." She knows them better, so she might be telling the truth. "They don't know how to love." Her words made me think. Is there really someone who doesn't know how to love? That's impossible. Maybe they're really destined to love and dedicate their time to only one person. And my cousin would be lucky if Adrian was serious about her. I can see it in Adrian's face. And Alwin also mentioned last night that my cousin wouldn't be harmed. Adrian supposedly loves Ate. I'm jealous. I am just a humble provincial girl, not remarkably beautiful. Especially to men like them. I remember Jetro's appearance once again. He was like the hero that I have read in books. I felt dreamy. They say that when you've seen "the one," everything around you becomes blurred, and the only thing you see is him. The only thing that you can hear is the loud beating of your heart. And everything was in slow motion. "You're drooling," Almira teased me, snapping me back to reality. It seems like I was really affected by Jetro. He's really so handsome! "Let's go for a stroll later tonight." "He's handsome," I blurted out unintentionally, causing Almira to burst into laughter that made me blush in embarrassment. "Oh, you might fail that subject. Be careful. It's hard to fall for someone who can't catch you." "It's just a simple crush," I defended. "And don't dare deepen your feelings for him." I nodded in agreement. I felt excited upon receiving the message from Almira. She said she'd include me in the club tonight. It's a good thing Tasha didn't insist on bringing me home to the province. She was supposed to stay here for a few more days, but since one of the twins got sick, she hurriedly went home. It's fortunate that there's an airport in the city, so she can get here faster if she travels by air. Unlike taking a bus, which would take twelve hours or more, I am the one left behind because I still have some customers to meet. There are still macramé pieces that need to be delivered. Of course, I will take advantage of this opportunity to experience the nightlife that I used to only dream of. It's a good thing I met Almira. She's friendly and not condescending, so I immediately felt comfortable around her. I also admire her beauty. Another reason I liked her is because she has a life similar to my dreams. I'm not jealous or insecure about her. It's normal for us to admire people, just like we admire celebrities we idolize. She's with her brother's wife, Alwin. She's very beautiful and obviously wealthy. But the thing is, even if she have all the great things in the world, she looks sad even when she's smiling. Her emotions, which are hard to name, are hidden behind her smiles. I am satisfied with the makeover Almira did on my face. From the makeup, and to my hair. She raised my hair tie and lightly curled it at the ends. Because the color of my arms isn't even, I chose to wear the long-sleeve dress among the clothes she showed me. A white long-sleeve body-hugging mini dress that's backless. I feel like my appearance has changed. I no longer look like a country girl. "Where is Atasha?" Adrian asked seriously. He looked at me intently as if he were reading my mind through my eyes, so I averted my gaze. I can't preempt my cousin when it comes to her personal life. I can't say that she went home to our province. "She left," I replied cautiously, even though I knew more questions would likely follow. "Where?" Huh! I knew it. What should I do to avoid this conversation? Maybe I should stop going out for now. "I can't tell you," I answered. Hopefully, he'll just leave me alone. He probably won't beat me up just to make me confess. He sighed and stared at me for a few seconds. "Why are you here?" I furrowed my brow at his question. "I just want to try partying," I replied with a restrained smile. Party, or would you like to see Jetro again? he said. My eyes widened at what he said. Am I really that obvious? I faked a laugh. "N-No way," I denied, even though I knew he didn't believe me based on his gaze. "Avoid him if you don't want to get hurt," he said. Hiswords echoed what Almira said. Is Jetro's personality flawed? I don't think so because he and my cousin wouldn't be good friends if he weren't a good person. "He's your friend, right? Why does it feel like you're ruining his image..." He raised an eyebrow at me because of what I said. "Have you been living here in Manila these past years?" he asked back. I shook my head, causing him to sigh. It's like his heart is heavy. It's like he's already missing my cousin. Hopefully, they'll be okay soon. "We have some macramé orders; that's why we traveled." "Macrame," he whispered, seemingly lost in thought. "Like the bracelets?" I nodded. He nodded too, as if contemplating something profound. "What if I order macramé worth one hundred thousand pesos?" he said, causing my eyes to widen. That would be a huge deal for my cousin and me, as well as our neighbors who work with us. "What's the catch?" I asked. I knew Adrian was planning something tricky. My cousin might get angry with me. "Just give me her number," he answered seriously. He immediately handed me his cellphone. I thought he would make me confess where my sister was. I also spent a few seconds contemplating whether I should give Tasha's number to Adrian. His face was serious, and his determination to see Tasha was evident in his expression. I let out a sigh. "Deal," I replied. "But let me handle it my way," I said while scratching my head. I'm definitely in trouble with Tasha because of this. But this might be their road to forever, the two of them, especially since they have children.
