CHAPTER 8

The news was revealed to my mom that her child and husband had drowned on their fishing trip. My mom threw her self to the ground as she screamed in pain and anguish knowing she had a great loss.

Martha my sister cried alongside as she buried her head on her knees, that day was regarded as the worst day of their lives.

Youth and men of our community drove on differ boats to find the bodies that were on our boat when it was destroyed. It is our culture that if one dies on water he/she should be brought out and buried on land.

Their mission was accomplished as they had seen almost all the bodies that were present on the boat, except from few which they had concluded that the bodies must have been devoured by sea creatures. Mine was included.

My friends rushed down to my house the moment they heard the news, they cried unstoppably this was for the fact that I wasn't going to be seen again.

Hours went by as the news spread around the community about a wrecked ship that sinked into the bottom of the sea.

The next day, elders and youth marched into our house to plan the rites and burial of the victims involved in the fatal accident.

"None of your family member bodies were seen so that means you would have to pay a sum of #100000 to carry out their burial rite just as the others" one of the aged men said.

It was a culture in our tradition that anyone who had died beneath the sea and his/her was not retrieved must be given a burial ritual to separate himself from the Marine spirits.

My mom bursted out in tears as there wasn't even a slightest penny in the house, how was her son and husband going to be buried.

The men delivered their messages as they exited the compound, my mom had been rendered depressed as she wept bitterly.

~EARLIER ON

the boat ⛵ had begun to sink as everyone screamed and called out for help without getting any response,

"Ring the alarm ?"my father yell.

The alarm button was pressed as a red light began to shine and sound like a siren vehicle,we were reaching the depth of the sea as some workers were already crying their eyes out.

I sight something rather strange in the ocean, it was the mermaid again. Before I could take another look the ship had sinked completely as I gulped enough sea water.

I screamed to get at the top but there was no way I was rather sinking......soon I passed out

Abeo had passed out as he sinked beneath the sea, immediately crystal appeared as she swam quickly towards him and held him.

She got hold of him and swam him to the top of the sea to breathe but he was still unconscious, she dragged him to land in her mermaid form as she hits his chest countlessly.

"Stay with me abeo.... open your eyes please"crystal cried.

"Why are you wasting your time on this land creature. Can't you see he is good as dead" mimi said.

"No.....no he can't die"crystal cried.

"You're not crying now are you?"Mimi said.

"You went to the extreme!....you couldn't have destroyed that ship" crystal snapped

"Are you kidding me now?.....those monsters were going to kill us" Mimi counted. "You're just getting weaker and softer daily, there's no doubt that soon you'll be turned to an outcast "she added

Mimi dives into the sea as Mimi was left alone with abeo, she cried as she hugged him.

The next day crystal had given him some herbs as she watched him, she smiled countlessly as she caressed his face in an instant she kissed him

Abeo suddenly opens his eyes slowly as it was blurry, he turns to crystal and sights her.

"Hi..."he said weakly as he smiled

"Hi" crystal replied smiling too

Immediately they started hearing voices and screams they looked back as they saw people matching towards them and screaming.

"There's a mermaid over there!!!......A mermaid!"

Crystal was griped with fear as she flung herself into the sea, abeo eyes was widen in shock as he seen a blue shiny tail.

"She's a mermaid" he snarled.

abeo is arrested as he is sentenced to isolation.

"My son has been missing for the past two days, and now he's found and you want to arrest him?.....you can't do that!" Abeo's mom cried out.

"It is a CURSE for him to be seen with a mermaid, so therefore he must follow due process " an aged man announced as the others men screamed in agreement.

Crystal is worried as she goes to see abeo's friends.

" Have you seen him" she asked.

" You know very well he has been missing for the past two days....."Gladys said.

" He has been found!" Crystal broke out.

" What" they all chorused in shock.

"But he has been arrested.... they're going to kill him"she said.

They were all shocked hearing this as they looked at each other.

Abeo is locked up in a cage as he was alone, he burst out in tears.

He started to hear his name as he was extremely shocked, he looked outside as he saw a creature glancing at him. It was the same creature that killed Philip his best friend.....

"Oh my God".......
