CHAPTER 9

THE CURSE

I was still shocked at my very eyes as i stared at the water, seeing crystal in a mermaid form was one of the greatest shocks of my life.

I still can't believe it.

I was brought back to reality the moment i was grabbed by the men and dragged again.

They were yelling and wailing as they had leaves and sticks to their grip, I was in a bubble of confusion as i glanced at their faces. I was frightened because anything that was going to occur wasn't good at all.

ABEO'S HOUSE.

I was dragged to my house as my mother rushed out while sighting me from the window, she hugged me immediately as she bursted out in tears.

The men tossed her away as they delivered their messages as they wanted to.

"Your son Abeo is on arrest as he was found lying with a mermaid".one of the men snarled.

"What do you mean by he is on arrest?.....,my son had been missing for two days and now you found him and you're telling me he is under arrest? How possible is that?" She asked.

"You of all people should know that it's a curse for a member of this community to be seen with a mermaid, it will bring disaster and hardship to the land"one of the men who was aged said.

"No...no......you can't say that my son has done nothing wrong, what are you going to do to him?"my mom cried out.

"We're talking him to the town's priest, he will be isolated till he is cleared and set free"one of the men answered

"My son is not under any curse what so ever, let him go?"she screams as she rushes to drag her son when the men toss her aside and drag me away.

She fell to the ground as she burst out in tears crying bitterly, Martha showed up as she hugged her.

~SCHOOL.

crystal had not been herself ever since the incident happened, abeo had seen her in her mermaid form. How was she going to explain?.

The most important thing was that he was in great danger, she sights abeo's friends coming out of class as she rushes to them.

"Hey.....good morning "she greeted.

"Hey beautiful..... it's been quite a long time since we've seen you"mark said.

"Have you seen him"crystal asked

"You know he had been missing for the pass three days without no traces of him found."Gladys replied.

"He has been found "crystal announced.

They were surprised and shocked as they looked at their selves and chorused.

"What!!"

"But he has been arrested and I think they're going to kill him"crystal said.

"What?....you must be kidding right now isn't it?"adebayo exclaimed.

"I'm not.....this is happening now as we speak"

They were all speechless as they looked at each other.

I was dragged to a shrine as the priestess glanced at him .

"What is your name young man"she asked fiercely

"My......my name is abeo"he replied in fright.

She begins to whisper some incantations as she looks at me.

"I see nothing but curses all around you, you've now taken a place in the Marine world and this will cause nothing but a great calamity in our community" she altered.

"I do not understand any of what is going on here, our ship was destroyed and I almost died. How does that have to do with this "I counted.

"Silence young man, you don't talk when I'm communicating with the spirits"she snarled.

"So what do we do to him priestess "one of the men said.

"We follow tradition.....he must be isolated and separated from humans,he must go through all the right ritual before he is set free. Only then can we accept him as one of our own "she said.

"Are you calling me a fugitive " I asked.

"You certainly are for now if not worst"she replied.

I had tears in his eyes as i looked at them.

"Take him away!!!!"the priestess ordered as I was taken away.

My friends had visited my house as they had been informed on what had happened earlier on by mother. Crystal followed them

"Don't worry ma'am we promise that abeo is going to come back home soon"Gladys consoled

"He's my only son, I don't know what I would do if something bad happens to him"she cried.

"It's okay "adebayo said.

Crystal said nothing as she was so sad watching my mom cry.

They all took their leave as they decided to have a meeting in front of the gate.

"What are we going to do now?"mark asked

"I have no single idea" Gladys said.

"Let's just go to the authorities and plead with them to release him"adebayo suggested

"What if we plan his escape?"crystal said.

They were all shocked as they turned to her.

"What?.....are you kidding right now"mark asked.

"I know it's a crazy idea but I think it's the best, we don't know for sure if abeo will be kept alive he could be killed at any moment we need to do something"crystal suggested.

"This is a very risky thing you've suggesting we do, imagine we get caught at the process we are done for!" Adebayo said.

"We will be extra careful I bet our plan will work out fine, please guys we need to save abeo. His life is at stake."crystal pleaded.

Everyone was rendered speechless as they contemplated whether to go on the Mission or not.

But one thing was for sure it is a very deadly mission.
