THE MERMAID: CHAPTER 4

CHAPTER 4

Crystal sat beside me as we talked and giggled together, she was so sweet just as she was extremely beautiful.

"I'm really sorry about what you had to go through in school today"she said.

"It's fine....I think I can handle it"I assured.

"I'm also sorry about your friends lost, Philip was his name right?"she asked.

"Yes and he was more like a brother to me" I replied.

"I can imagine, you guys were really close"she added.

"So how do you intend to pay up the debt from the school"she asked.

"I don't know.......I don't even have a little to start up with and my dad is totally counting himself out of it"I said

"I'm so sorry"she altered as she gave me an object.

I collected the object as I saw how it was shining and extremely beautiful to the eye. She then brought the suggestion that I should sell it.

"Is this a diamond? Where did you get it from?"I asked inquisitively

"It more than a diamond, you could gain so much with this if it is sold"she said.

With what she said I suddenly felt a glimpse of happiness as an idea popped up into my head.

"Come on let's dive into the sea and play"I said as I stretched my hands towards her

"What?.....no I can't"she declined.

"Why?.....are you afraid of the sea?...or you're a mermaid?"I giggled.

"What.... of course not, I'm no mermaid"she snapped

"Calm down I was only joking"I laughed. "Okay let's go play okay..... come on you'll be fine"I added.

She gave me her hands as I grabbed it and pulled her to the water,but she released herself before getting there as she dragged me to the ground and bathed me with sand.

We laughed so hard as I did the same to her with her screaming at the top of her voice.

It was evening already as I matched to the Market to sell the precious object given to me by crystal, I saw different buyers who walked away the moment they saw it claiming that they couldn't afford it irrespective of the fact I didn't lay down any prices to them.

I had spend hours already as I encountered a man who paid for the object at first sight,I was extremely shocked at the amount of money he handed over to me as it felt like I was dreaming.

"We can do more business sometime right"he said as I welcome his hands for a shake as I nodded countlessly

I was extremely excited holding such a huge amount of money, I scrolled through the market and bought some food stuffs for my family and kept the remaining money to clear the debt at the school.

I got home with so much joy on my face as it disappeared the moment I saw my father at the door staring at me allusively, mother came to help me as she took all the things I had bought to the room.

"Where are you coming from?"he asked drawing closer to my stand

"I went out to see a friend "I replied

"You went out to see a friend? When you were supposed to be in school. ..ehh" I ranted.

"Dad I was chased out of school because of what ....."I was interrupted by two hot slap that made my sight blur.

I was saved from receiving the third one by my mother as she pleaded that I should be left alone.

"You good for nothing fool, so when you are supposed to be In school you now go around stealing people's things and bringing it to this house?....where did you get those things you brought?"he asked acerbically.

"I bought them ..... someone gave me the money"I replied with a drop of tears in my eye

"Who gave you which money?....or you tell me you stole it......you criminal, now before I open my eyes you go in there and carry those stolen things out of my house"he ordered.

"He will do no such thing Hillary!.....he will do no such thing,do you know how many days we had stayed in this house without eating 3 square meal a day and you say he should take everything away, he won't"my mom snapped as she was almost in tears.

"So you now want to be eating stolen food all because you want to eat 3 square meal a day, I can see you're just as stupid as your useless son"he ranted as he dashed out of the sitting room.

Mom looked at me as she hugged me clearing the tears she had seen in my eyes. Martha was also there.

I got to school the next morning as I went to clear my debt,I met with mark, adebayo and Gladys. We all hugged each other as they had missed me.

"Thank God you're back...we were so worried"Gladys said.

"We were about coming to see you but we couldn't cause we came back late after going to see Philip's parents."adebayo explained.

"It's fine actually, thanks so much"I said.

That moment I sighted crystal I was so happy as I told my friends I would join them soon.

I quickly rushed to crystal as I hugged her, she felt weird.

"What was that all about"she asked.

"Just my way of saying thank you for what you did yesterday, I'm really so grateful."I said smiling speechless

"Yeah you're welcome "she said.

She left to her class as I didn't stop glancing at her,there was no point denying.....

I was in LOVE.

My sheepish smile disappeared the moment I sighted the female creature staring at me.
