CHAPTER 5

FIRST KILL

~CRYSTAL'S HOUSE.

Crystal got home as she flips her bag to the bed her aunt (aunt Caroline)came in afterwards.

"You're back already?.....I didn't see you walk through the front door"she said surprisingly.

"Well I came in through the back"crystal replied smiling.

"You mean you came in swimming, I've told you it's quite dangerous you know especially if you're coming from school, just imagine you're being sighted we would be ruined crystal "she snapped.

"I'm sorry about that aunt, won't happen again "she pleaded.

"It's fine......go fetch yourself some food in the kitchen you have a visitor "aunt Caroline said.

"A visitor..... I'm not expecting anyone "crystal altered.

"Well now you do have someone waiting for you"she said.

"Oh my goodness....... mother!"crystal assumed showing a shocking countenance.

My friends and I were on our way home as we discussed.

"I'm really so happy you were able to pay for the damages as you were told and resume school "Gladys said smiling.

"You're all talking like you really missed me like how many days was I absent?.....abeg stop the flattering jare"abeo said .

"So because we're admitting we kind of missed you your head have start swelling "adebayo said

"Or it's because of the new pretty girl in his life"mark said smiling.

They all bursted out in laughter as they looked at me, I was honestly the only one not finding anything funny in what they were saying.

"So tell us about her, is she your new girlfriend?"adebayo added.

"What if I said yes" I claimed looking at them to know their next reaction.

They suddenly screamed as they grabbed me raising me to their shoulders as everyone looked at us, I was literally embarrassed as I pleaded to be dropped but wasn't......

"Stand up for the champion!"they continued to scream.

Crystal goes to the sitting room as she sights a pretty aged woman sipping a liquid from a mug.

"Greetings queen mother"crystal bowed.

"Greetings to you child" queen mother answered.

"To what do I owe this visit? You've never visited me on land except I come to see you beneath the sea"crystal said confusingly.

"Well this is because there's something extremely essy I want to speak to you about"she said.

"What is it queen mother?"crystal asked

"I got an information that you said you will never abide by our tradition and do what is needed of you when you become of age"the queen said.

"I don't understand what you mean by that queen mother "crystal said.

"is it true you said you won't provide your first sacrifice and first kill to the kingdom "queen mother snapped.

"Queen mother I.....I....."she stammered

"You wouldn't dare dimi!......I made your quest so easy by allowing you stay in the human world so you would do better by bringing their heads for sacrifices and till now you've done nothing "she said exasperatedly

"I'm still working on it "crystal altered.

"Then you must be a failure,I don't give birth to failure or loser .... You have less than 3 days to provide your first human kill as tradition demands else you'll face my wrath in full force!"she snapped as she stood.

Aunt Caroline showed up as she walks to the queen.

"Are you sure you don't want to eat anything?....I have prawns and seafood "she offered.

"I told you I wasn't hungry and even if I was this will be the last place I'll settle down to eat, you better talk to your niece because she'll be disowned if she eventually turns out to be like you.........A LOSER!"the queen altered acerbically as she goes to the back door and dives into the water turning into a mermaid with a giant gold tail.

Crystal sat feeling sober as aunt Caroline sat close to her caressing her hair.

"Is it so compulsory to follow tradition?..what tradition encourages and supports the spilling of human blood?"crystal cried.

"It's a choice my dear but I don't want to encourage you not to abide by it"aunt Caroline admonished.

"Was that why queen mother called you a LOSER?...... because you didn't abide and follow our tradition?"crystal asked.
