CHAPTER 6

THE FISHING.

I was still with aunt Caroline as she was unable to answer my question or perhaps she ran out of words.

"Was that why she called you a LOSER?" I repeated.

"Yes crystal, it was the reason I was called a LOSER. I never made my first kill, when I was forced to land by my mother to make the attempt, I found love instead of finding a bait"she narrated.

"What happened after that aunt?" I asked curiously

"I overstayed my welcome on land with the man I had fallen in love with and this got to the queen mother, I was banished instantly from the sea and ordered never to return "she explained as she had tears gathered around her eyes.

"I'm really sorry about that aunt Caroline,but what about him?"I asked.

"Benard?....he died in a ghastly accident, ever since my husband died life has never been the same for me. He loved me so much "she burst out in tears.

"Did he know?.....was he aware you were a mermaid?"I asked

"He did when I got the message from the sea that I had been banished, benald was the only one who helped me pull through. He was there for me all the way. We got married immediately as he finished his house (this house) that was why it was built and had an entrance close to the sea."she said still in tears.

Without any more words let out I grabbed her as I hugged her tightly.

"I'm really sorry"I consoled.

"It's fine my dear, so you know now that it's a choice it's a choice you have to make but I really won't want you to go through any of the things I went through so think wisely "she admonished as she took her leave.

I sat down back thinking deeply about what aunt Caroline had told me, was I really going to be banished for defaulting to provide my first kill.

It was morning already as I stretched myself on the bed yawning deeply, I was about to prepare for school when my dad broke the news.

"Get ready abeo you're coming with me to fish today"he ordered

"To fish?....but I'm supposed to be preparing for school, today isn't weekend is it?"I counted.

"You now have the guts to counter my words and tell me what I'm supposed to do?"he snarled "now get yourself prepared you're coming with me "he added.

I was left with no words or choice as I stormed into the bathroom to shower, within minutes I was done as I followed my father to his boat.

His workers made their way into the ship with the tools and equipment as I helped them.

They sailed away as we were heading to the middle of the ocean.

I sat back feeling the soothing air and thinking of crystal, images of her holding my hands flashed through my mind as I smiled uncontrollably.

I noticed my dad staring at me allusively as he wondered what had caused my sudden smile.

I controlled my emotions and kept a straight face.

Crystal was on her way to school when she sighted Mimi.

"Why are you stalking me?"crystal asked.

"Am I?....well I wasn't aware of that, you know what? why don't we just go for a swim beneath the sea"she suggested.

"Like right now?...as you can see I'm heading to school "crystal said

"Well it wouldn't be bad if you had failed to go for a day would it?"Mimi asked.

"Look I don't know what you're up to but just have it in mind that I'm not interested." She said as she walked away.

In the distance she heard her voice "abeo will be there"she voiced out.

This got crystal as she turned back and walked back to her.

"What do you mean abeo will be there?"she asked.

"He didn't go to school today, as we speak he is right on top of the water with those fools who call themselves fishermen"she said. "It's fine if you don't want to come with me I'll just go and have fun all by myself "she added.

"Wait I'm coming with you "crystal changed her mind.

"That's what I want to hear"she smiled.

~ALONG THE SEA⛵

We had already cast our nets in the sea as we caught many fishes, this made the fishermen excited as they singed their traditional songs to ginger their spirit.

Suddenly we heard a voice from one of them.

"There's a woman..... there's a woman in the water, look!" He snapped as he pointed at the sea.

We all glanced at once as we saw two ladies afar in the water, one of them dived into the sea as she revealed her whole self.

"It's a mermaid!!!!!!!........na Mami water!!!!!"the men shouted .

I was extremely shocked to see the large tail that squashed on the water, it was my first time seeing a mermaid.

Immediately my father ordered they accelerate the ship's speed, they were going to capture the sea creature.

I focused my glance on the water as the boat accelerated, the fishermen cast their hook into the water as they dragged it, shockingly it had caught one of the mermaids.

"We got here!"one of the men yelled as they dragged The rope.

I looked closely as I discovered I was familiar with the face of the girl in the water.
