Baby Shower

I woke to a knock on my door. It's Lilly. She grabs my hand and pulls me to the living room. She showed me the invitations for the wedding.
Me: It's dated a week from today.
Lilly: We thought everything would take longer, so that's why they chose a month. But now we can do it a week early!
Me: Ummm....Lilly, can I have an extra invitation? There's someone I want to invite.
Lilly: Sure.
She hands me an extra invitation. I go back to my room and get dressed. I leave the apartment and head up to the 5th floor. I knocked on Gwen's door. She answers.
Me: Hi Gwen. Is Liam here?
Gwen: Yeah. He just got out of the shower. Come in.
Me: Thank you.
I walk in, and she closes the door behind me. I jump do to the last time I was here. Liam comes out in a black tank top and black basketball shorts. Damn. I never realized how much muscle this man had. He looks at me and smiles.
Liam: Melanie. Hi. Something wrong?
Me: Oh no. I actually came by to give you this.
I handed him the invitation. He looks at it and then hands it back at me. He smiles and hands it back. I slid it back to him.
Me: It would mean alot to me if you came. There's a plus one. Bring Gwen or your girlfriend.
Liam: Since you put it that way. I'll come, but not with a girlfriend. Anything in particular I should wear?
Me: A tuxedo. Dress to impress someone.
I wink at him. I say my goodbyes and leave. I go back home. Lilly and I get dressed to go get my dress. As soon as we open the door, Kai is there. I really have nothing to say to him, but I'll play along.
Kai: Princess, can we talk?
Me: Sure babe. Lilly, can you give me like five minutes?
Ugh, I want to throw up just saying it. I head to my room and Kai follows.
Me: What's up?
Kai: I'm sorry I didn't tell you about my assistant.
Me: It's fine. I just overreacted. Comes with the pregnancy.
Kai: Melanie.
Me: Yes?
Kai: Promise me that whatever happens, we'll get through it together.
Me: Is something wrong?
Kai: Promise me!
I stepped back and looked at him. He looks like something is haunting him. I didn't say anything and walked past him. He grabs my arm.
Kai: Melanie, promise me.
Me: I can't promise you about something I don't know about myself.
I shrugged his hand off of me. I grab my bag and leave. We get to the dress store and find Monica already waiting. We each gave her a hug.
Monica: You guys finally made it.
Lilly: Yeah, Kai stopped by.
Monica: How is everything with you guys?
Me: Not great. How's the baby?
Monica: Omg! I almost forgot. Tomorrow is my baby shower. Sorry it's last minute. We're going to reveal the s*x of the baby. And no gifts.
Lilly/Me: Well be there!
I picked out my dress, and we went to have lunch. Between Lilly wedding planning and Monica preparing for the baby, it's been a while since we had a girls' day out. I smelled perfume and it was coming from Monica. I think back to when Kai said he borrowed some from her.
Me: Monica, did you loan Kai some perfume?
Monica: No, why do you ask?
Me: Nothing.
Monica: I know him and Leon haven't spoken in a while.
Me: What happened?
Monica: Leon said Kai got home at like seven in the morning a few days ago. He asked if he had a late night with you joking around and Kai told him to shut the f**k up.
Hmmm. I haven't spent the night with Kai since a few days after our anniversary. That day she showed back up at home at 6am. So where would he have been? Working late? Maybe, but with his track record I doubt that. We finish lunch and we all head home.
The next day, we went to the guy's apartment to help set up the baby shower. After everything is set up, everyone starts arriving. Lilly, Leon, and Kai's parents are here. So are Monica's. She said no gifts, so we immediately got to the best part.
Monica/Leon: We're having a boy!
Everyone: Congratulations!
Monica: Another announcement. Melanie and Kai have one on the way.
Everyone claps. Kai hugs me and gives me a kiss on the cheek. Everyone mingles. Kai asked me to come to his room.
Kai: So we're having a baby?
Me: Yep.
I refuse to make eye contact with him. We go and sit on the bed. He places his hand on mine. I move my hand away. He tries to kiss me and I turn away.
Kai: Princess?
Me: What?
Kai: I love you.
I stay silent. I get up and leave. He jumps in front of me. His eyes pleading. I gave him a kiss on the cheek.
Me: I love you too.
I open the door and leave. I start thinking about Liam. I think I'll ask him to hang out tomorrow. As for Kai, I just need the proof. Once I get it, we're done Kai and I'm moving on.
