“Blyna, you need to calm down,” he said in a soft tone.

SENTENCED TO DEATH
BYLNA’S POV I sat on the grass, surrounded by a sea of vibrant flowers. The air was filled with their sweet fragrance, mingling with the gentle breeze that caressed my face. The atmosphere was serene, as if time had slowed down just for this moment. Sitting in the garden, enjoying the warm sunlight on my skin, was the usual way I spend my free time. I loved nature, and surrounding myself with it, was calming and relaxing. My eyes fluttered, and they landed on a tulip, swaying light right in front of me. I reached out to touch the delicate flower, when the sound of my name jolted me out of my reverie. “Blyna! Did you forget the casserole you left in the oven?!” My mother’s voice rang through the large duplex sitting right beside me. I rose up from the grass, patting my dress before responding. “No mother! I’ll go check it now!” My feet sprinted forward, circling the house until the entrance was in view. As I took a step forward to approach the front door, my eyes landed on a group of large, bulky men, each of them clad in armour, an attire that was all to familiar in this small town. My eyes flickered from one of the men’s stoic face, to his leather breastplate, which had a badge on it. My heath sank to the bottom of my chest when I recognised the symbol. These were the imperial guards, who served the alpha. My heart began to race and my mind began to fill up with questions like what they could be doing in my house and if we had done something wrong. Without thinking, I sprinted toward the back door, slipping in and running into the kitchen, where my mother stood. She looked up at me, her eyebrows raised as curiosity was etched on her face. “Dear? What’s the matter?” she asked as she moved closer to me. I heaved heavily as I tried to catch my breath. My eyes were wide and filled with fear and my body trembled. “The imperial guards, they’re h-“ A loud knock resonated through the entire house, threatened to tear the whole building down. I froze, my eyes slowly turning to the small corridor that led to the front door. “Who could that be? I don’t think we’re expecting visitors today,” My mother shrugged as she turned to exit the kitchen. Without thinking I grabbed on to her wrist and she spun around, her eyes taking in my entire demeanour. “Blyna? What’s wrong?” My hands trembled as my mother took them in hers. Her eyes were filled with concern as she tucked a strand of my blonde hair away from my sweat stained cheeks. I looked up at her, my lips parted to speak when I was cut short buy another loud bang on the door. My father’s large figure appeared into the hallway, and my mother and I watched as he approached the door. Tension rang through the air as my father twisted the door knob. The door flew open in an instant and the guards marched into the house without warning. I watched, my face pale as they turned to my father. One of them grabbed him by the hand and began to pull him away. “What is the meaning of this?!” My father yelled as he struggled. My mother detached Herself from and bolted to the front door. I followed behind her, as fear etched itself to my very being. “Let go of my husband!” My mother bellowed. “Don’t you know who he is? He’s the beta of this pack!” I stood frozen in the doorway, my heart pounding against my chest as I watched my father being forcefully dragged out by the Alpha’s guards. Confusion and fear overwhelmed me, paralyzing my every move. I clutched the doorframe, my knuckles turning white, as my eyes darted between my father’s struggling form and my mother’s terrified face. “Dad!” I cried out, my voice trembling with desperation. But my words were drowned by the chaos unfolding before me. The guards paid no heed to my pleas, their grip on my father’s arms unyielding. His face contorted with a mix of anger and fear, he fought against their grasp, but it was futile. The guards were relentless, their grip unwavering. “Let him go!” my mother pleaded, her voice cracking with panic. Tears welled up in her eyes, mirroring the helplessness and confusion I felt inside. She reached out towards my father, her hands shaking, but the guards shoved her aside, their expressions cold and indifferent. “The Alpha has summoned him,” one of the guards barked, his voice laced with authority. “We have our orders.” His words pierced through the chaotic haze, sending a chill down my spine. The Alpha? Why would he summon my father? What had he done? I watched in disbelief as they dragged my father further away from our home. His footsteps faltered, but his spirit remained unbroken. He turned to look at us, his eyes filled with a mix of determination and concern. It was as if he was trying to convey a message, urging us to stay strong despite the imminent threat. Fear gripped my heart, squeezing it tightly. I wanted to rush forward, to fight alongside my father and protect him, but my body remained rooted to the spot. The sound of my mother’s sobs echoed in the room, intertwining with the distant shouts and the scuffling of feet. With a surge of determination, my mother and I hurriedly followed the guards as they led my father towards a waiting car. We dashed through the streets, our footsteps echoing the racing of our hearts. The car was just pulling away when we reached it, but my mother managed to open the door and hastily motioned for me to get in. As we chased after the vehicle, my mind raced with questions and worries. Where were they taking my father? What awaited him at the Alpha’s pack house? The uncertainty gnawed at me, intensifying the fear that gripped my chest. After what felt like an eternity, we arrived at the Alpha’s pack house. It loomed before us, an imposing structure exuding an air of authority. My mother parked the car, and we hurriedly made our way towards the entrance. The heavy wooden doors stood ajar, inviting us inside. Stepping into the dimly lit hallway, my eyes were drawn to the meeting room at the end. I strained to catch a glimpse of my father, and my heart sank as I saw him being dragged inside by the guards. Determined not to lose sight of him, we hastened our steps, quietly entering the room. My gaze darted around, searching for my father’s face among the sea of stern expressions. And then I saw him—the Alpha. Tall and commanding, with a regal aura that demanded respect. His piercing eyes held a mixture of power and authority, and his features were etched with the weight of responsibility. But something else caught my attention. Beside the Alpha stood a girl, a familiar face that sent shivers down my spine. Audrey. Her eyes, looked haunted and scared. Tears stained her cheeks, and her trembling lips betrayed the fear that consumed her. Seeing her there, beside the Alpha, only deepened my confusion. What connection did she have to all of this? The guards positioned my father in front of the imposing figure of the Alpha, their grip firm on his arms. Their eyes met in a charged moment, and I noticed a complex mix of defiance and resignation in my father’s expression. It was a look I had seen before, when he faced adversity head-on, refusing to back down. The Alpha’s commanding voice cut through the room, demanding attention. “Audrey, speak,” he ordered, his tone leaving no room for hesitation. Audrey, her voice trembling, began to stammer as she spoke. Her words came out in fragments, interspersed with sniffles and tears. “Last night... at the club...” she managed to say between sobs. “The beta... he took me... he defiled me.” The weight of Audrey’s accusation hit me like a blow to the gut. Shock and disbelief washed over me, making it difficult to comprehend her words. My mind raced, grappling with conflicting thoughts. How could this be? Could my father truly be capable of such an unthinkable act? It was inconceivable, yet the doubt crept in, fueled by the raw emotion in Audrey’s voice. Amidst her tearful confession, my father’s voice rose in protest. “No! I didn’t do it!” he exclaimed, his voice filled with desperation. His eyes searched the room, pleading for someone to believe him. I wanted to believe him. My heart screamed in defiance, rejecting the notion that my father could be guilty of such a heinous act. But doubts began to nibble at the edges of my mind. The seed of possibility had been planted, and despite my resistance, it grew with every passing moment. The Alpha’s gaze shifted to my father, his voice heavy with authority. “Where were you last night, Murray?” he demanded, his eyes narrowing in scrutiny. A deafening silence settled over the room as my father stood there, his mouth opening and closing without a sound escaping. My eyes went wide as I stared at my father. I could only wonder why he was not trying to defend himself, and why he was not saying a word. “Honey! Why aren’t you saying anything? Tell them! You did not partake in that kind of atrocity!” The alpha held his hand up and the room went silent in an instant. “Murray, I sentence you to death.”
