Chapter Six

1075 Words
Brenda’s POV. Moving in with Lucian was less stressful than I thought because I wasn’t allowed to come with any of my personal belongings. The only thing I came with was my cell phone, nothing else. He got me new ones and made sure I never lacked anything in his house, but I still avoided him like a plague. He wanted us to be friends, and at least, be cool with each other but I wasn’t comfortable with that. Today’s the day when we’d be signing our marriage certificate in the presence of his lawyer. “Brenda!” I heard him call me from downstairs and I heaved deeply. “I’ll be right there,” I replied hastily. At this point, there was no backing down—but I still couldn’t help asking myself if all this was worth it. Was getting married to a man I do not love worth seeking revenge on Gary? Jolting back to reality, I stared at myself through the mirror and smiled wickedly. “Brenda, you’ll do this!” I said, and a mischievous smirk appeared on my face. Staring at myself for the last time in the mirror, I smiled widely—taking in my beautiful looks. “It’s time,” I muttered under my breath, as I stood up and exited my room, heading downstairs to get married to Lucian. I alighted the stairs slowly and saw Lucian seated, as he patiently waited for me. The lawyer wasn’t excluded as they both stood up the moment they saw me. “You’re here ma,” He greeted, and in return—I flashed him a smile. “So how do we start?” I asked, glancing at both Lucian and the lawyer. Lucian pointed at a paper on the table with a pen which I guessed to be the marriage certificate. “Do I need to tell you all the process or we can just skip it and get this over with?” The lawyer asked, glancing at both me and Lucian. “Let’s just get this over with,” We chorused and in shock, stared at each other looking amused. I walked forward and picked up the pen before I went on to sign on the vacant space left for me. Lucian walked forward and took the pen from me before he continued and signed on his spot. “Congratulations Mr and Mrs Brinkley,” The lawyer said, and I felt chills run down my spine. This name! I’d always loved it and wished it ended up becoming my last name, but guess what—it didn’t come from Gary. “Thank you,” I said and flashed the lawyer a smile, before facing ‘My husband,’. “Cheers to spending the rest of our lives together,” I chuckled and flashed him a smile which he returned. “In good health and love,” He said, flashing me a smile—as he showed off his set of white teeth. The word “Love” sounded cringe to me, but I refused to show it. The lawyer nodded, as he packed up and left. I picked up my phone and entered the kitchen to prepare what I was going to eat when I got a message from Cecilia. “Hope you’re good in your new home?” The message read, and my lips twitched up in a smile. “Of course, what could go wrong?” I replied with a smiling emoji, and let out a soft chuckle. I grabbed a glass of juice with a cup alongside, as I walked towards the living room just to see Lucian busy on his phone. I walked past him and went to the couch, as I switched the smart TV on. Going through the channels, as I searched for the best one to pick, I noticed Lucian stare at me for a while which made me turn to stare at him with narrowed eyes. “Is everything okay?” I asked, and he flashed me a smile and went on to tuck his phone away before walking up to me. “May I join you?” He asked calmly, and I shrugged simply, as I felt it was normal. “There’s nothing he could do,” I thought, as I shrugged off any weird thought that came through my mind. “What about we watch a horror movie,” Lucian suggested, as I felt my eyes widen in shock. “Horror?” I thought as I let out a nervous chuckle. “I’m sorry, I didn’t ask to know your preference….” He was still saying when I stopped him calmly. I wasn’t going to let him know that I didn’t like Horror movies…instead, if I got scared along the line, I could just close my eyes and everything would be fine. “You get that,” I muttered to myself, and with a determined smile… “I love Horror movies so much,” I lied, putting up an innocent expression so he wouldn’t notice that I was scared of it. “Why don’t you suggest one,” I asked with a quirk smile. “The Conjuring?” He asked, with a weird smile playing on his face. I cleared my throat nervously and searched for it before I went on to play it. At first, I was enjoying it until it took a dark turn and I ended up disappointing myself. “Ahhh,” I screamed in shock, as I hid my face from the Television. I breathed heavily, still hiding my face until I heard Lucian’s laughter beside me. “What happened to the ‘I love Horror movies so much’?” He asked amidst laughter and I looked up to glare at him but it didn’t stop him from laughing. I sighed and stood up, hoping to rush to my room because I had lost interest in the movie, just for him to hold my left hand—thereby stopping me from moving. “Leave me,” I said slowly, but instead—he stood up. “Why do you want to leave?” He asked as he took slow strides towards me, but I moved backward slowly. “Nothing,” I said, gulping down nothing because I was already becoming uncomfortable with our proximity. He leaned closer to my face, and I closed my eyes slowly—waiting for his lips to touch mine.
