Chapter 7
Lucian’s POV.
I slowly raised my hands to her lips and gently wiped away the tiny droplets of the drink from her lips with my thumb.
I glanced at her face, and a light chuckle escaped my lips the moment I saw her closing her eyes. It looked like she was in anticipation of something.
“Are you expecting something else?” I asked with a light smile, and she opened her eyes quickly, before letting out a nervous chuckle.
“No!” She glared at me before she succeeded pushing me off and running up the stairs.
“Brenda,” I chuckled with a sweet smile and went ahead to pick up my phone before going through it.
Brenda was someone I’ve always liked since I found out about her…and yes, I knew she was my nephew’s ex-girlfriend.
I went ahead to investigate and realized that Gary never loved Brenda, but I waited for everything to play out before appearing before her.
I’ve noticed that she doesn’t feel free with me, but it’s normal. She’s still going through her healing process, so I felt I should allow her to heal completely.
I was still scrolling through my phone when I got a call from my Personal Assistant.
“Yes,” I answered swiftly, hoping he went straight to the point this time.
“Your attention is needed at the office Urgently,” He said, his voice laced with concern.
“What happened?” I asked, halting abruptly the moment I sensed the concern in his voice.
“Mr. Andrew is here sir, and the files aren’t ready,” He asked, and at that moment, my heartbeat quickened.
“I’d be there,” I ended the call, and almost left for the office without dropping a message for Brenda.
It was so urgent and I couldn’t afford to miss him as he was one of the Top Investor in my Company.
Although I didn’t want to leave without dropping a message for Brenda, I beckoned to one of the servants in the house.
“Tell my wife that I rushed out for business, I’d be back soon,” I said to him, and he responded with a bow.
I quickly picked a jacket from my room and entered my car, before driving off quickly.
Driving off, I hit the gas reaching there in less than twenty minutes.
The moment I got to the Company, I saw Mr Andrew on his way out of the office with my Personal Assistant trying to plead with him. I walked out of the car, wearing a light smile on my face.
“Mr. Andrew,” I called out to him and his face lit up the moment he saw me.
“Oh, Mr Brinkley,” He said and waltzed towards me quickly.
“What a surprise! No one knew you were coming,” I said smilingly, with a bit of seriousness in my voice.
He chuckled nervously and shook his head slowly, “That’s not it, I wanted to check on the business proposal,”.
“When is our meeting supposed to be held?” I inquired from my Personal Assistant even though I knew the answer.
“It’s on Thursday sir, A day after tomorrow,” He said with a light bow, and I looked up to glance at Mr Andrew.
“So what brought you here before the due date?” I asked, entering the office and he followed behind me closely.
“I just wanted to check up on it,” He asked, trying to sound innocent.
“Well I don’t think so,” I said, and slowly turned around to face him the moment we got to my office.
He raised an eyebrow, hoping I’d continue but instead, I flashed him a weird smile.
He needs to beware!
“Everything would be ready on Thursday, give it a break,” I said, and he let out a tensed chuckle.
“It’s alright, I’ll be here on Thursday,” He said, and with that—he left my office.
My Personal Assistant, Frank let out a relieved sigh.
“You don’t need to worry,” I said to him, before walking to my seat.
“Bring the files so I can go through it,” I told him which he hurriedly left to bring.
“Andrew, I still need to know what you’re up to—I just know it’s no good,” I thought and shrugged, before focusing on the files I needed to work on.
After a long while of going through the files, I glanced at my wristwatch and my eyes widened at the amount of time I had spent working on the files.
It was past 10 pm.
“How is it possible?” I wondered deeply and packed up the files on my table.
I stretched myself on the chair, before letting out a long yawn.
I stood up and picked up my phone as I exited my office. As I was on my way out of the company, I passed by Frank’s office and met his lights on, out of curiosity—I pushed open the door slowly just to see Frank on his laptop as he drafted what seemed to be like my schedule.
A light smile crept on my lips and I was so proud that I made the right decision to pick him as my Personal Assistant.
He was the only one that I was probably sure had my best interest and that of my Company at heart.
“Still here,” I said to him, and he looked up wearing a tired smile.
“Yes, you’re finally done?” He questioned and I nodded, which made him sigh in relief.
“Okay, let me drive you home,” He offered, but I shook my head deeply.
“It’s late Frank, just go home safely—I’ll take care of myself,” I said to him, and when he tried to argue—I shot him a glare.
“Frank…just listen to me, you said you saw me as your big brother right?” I inquired and he nodded, with a defeated smile.
“Fine,” He said and packed up his files. We exited the company as we entered our respective cars saying goodbyes.
My stomach rumbled and I remembered I hadn’t had anything to eat throughout the day, and my mind darted to Brenda.
“I wonder if she has had anything to eat? Or if she’s sleeping comfortably?” I thought, and with that—I increased my speed and drove home.
