By the time I was out of the dental office it was time for lunch. I didn't know what I fancied so I pondered on the situation whilst wandering around town until I noticed a cheerful looking café just ahead of me. I still had the same aching pain in my mouth that I'd had for the last few days but nothing was to stop me from eating food. Besides, I wanted to get rid of the horrible taste Dr Urie's gloves had left in my mouth.
I headed inside the small café and placed my bottom down on a chair in the corner, supposedly for a party of two. However, today it was me and me only. A party for moi. It was a very quiet place which was not very full. There were three other tables in use. Two in which I expected were couples, male and female. The other which looked like a lady and her mother. And then there was me. The loner of the century sitting awkwardly on my own with nothing but a menu. I scanned the detailed menu until I found something that tickled my fancy. A lovely prawn baguette with Mary Rose sauce. I read the text and instantly smiled to myself. All my worries vanished and I forgot all about the filling I was due to have the next day.
I ordered my lunch and a glass of lemonade. Around 10 minutes later my order arrived and was placed in front of me by a slim lady with frizzy brown hair. She smiled at me and walked away, allowing me to delve into this spectacular meal. I finished my meal, which was divine, without a trace left on my plate, except the tomatoes which I didn't appreciate eating. I decided to treat myself so ordered a brownie.
Again, my brownie arrived at my table at lightning speed and I was ready to dive in. I took the very first bite, but...
"OUCH!" I whelped clenching the side of my mouth. Tears started to shed down my face and many others were staring over in my direction. The frizzy haired lady came running over to my table.
"Honey, what's happened?" She asked me in a very worried tone.
I couldn't reply, I was in absolute agony. I didn't know what to do. I felt pain, embarrassment, but worse of all. Worry. The frizzy haired lady consistently asked me what the problem was but I had trouble talking. I looked into her eyes and gestured towards my mouth. She insisted she took me to the dentist, but I wanted to vomit. Twice in a day? Wow, my luck sure was bad!
I didn't even get time to pay. Before I knew it I was in her car and she was rushing me away. A short journey in her car took place, in which she made a rough phone call, I assumed to Waveroad dental practice. The whole time I did not remove my hands from my face and my tears had yet to stop.
We arrived in the speed of light.
"Hop out, someone is waiting there for you. Don't worry about the money for the food, it's on the house. I'm sorry for whatever has happened darling!" She gestured for me to get out the car and she quickly sped away.
I waddled through the doors and there he was. The beautiful dentist. Dr Urie was standing right there with a worried expression covering his face. He ran over to me and I collapsed into his arms. My legs became weak and panic rushed through my body. He picked me up bridal style and rushed me into the same room as last time. Two other dentists followed us.
Dr Urie laid me into the dental chair and immediately began placing on the gloves and mask, as well as the other two dentists. The chair laid back into the same 180 degree angle. His stool rushed round to my head.
"Lola, you're not alone okay. I'm here for you. Anything I can do to help I will, promise. It seems as if something bad has taken place. Would you mind removing your hands from your face so I can take a look please?" His tone of voice was so gentle and polite that I felt content, yet my mouth hurt so bad the tears wouldn't stop. I removed my hands from my face and did nothing else. I felt the gloved hands of Dr Urie help me open my mouth. He took a look and immediately stood back up. I had my eyes closed, probably for the best. I felt a bib placed on my chest and I knew it wouldn't be good.
I felt the chair raise up slightly and opened my eyes to see Dr Urie sitting on his stool in front of me. His mask was gone and he was smiling slightly with a comforting expression.
"Okay Lola, I understand you're in a lot of pain right now but it's nothing too serious and can be fixed very easily."
I whimpered and he gave me a quick hug. It was warm and his scent rushed up my nose causing a smile to appear on my face.
He giggled very lightly. "Okay so somehow you've managed to chip one of your teeth. It doesn't need fixing right now, but it might do in the future. You must have extremely sensitive teeth for this to hurt you that bad. Or maybe there's another reason you're in pain. We'll talk about that later though. Let me just take another look at your teeth." He smiled at me and placed his mask back over his face.
"Now Lola, there's some blood in your mouth so I'm just going to clean you up. I'll fix your filling whilst I'm here too. I hate to see you in pain. My other patients will have to wait." He seemed very happy to be helping me.
He began speaking to the other two dentists whom I'd forgotten were still in the room. "Dr Smith, please can you look after my other patients for the day. They're all just checkups so just book another appointment if there's any troubles. Dr Weekes, would you mind staying?" I saw Dr Weekes nod and he also placed his mask back over his face. Dr Smith left the room.
Dr Weekes was a very tall man with dark hair and pale skin. His hair was flat and swooped to the side. Much like Dr Urie's for that matter, except not gelled.
The chair was laid back once again so it was parallel to the floor. I whelped again, but before I knew it there was a hand placed in mine. I opened my squinted eyes and noticed it was Dr Weekes'. I could tell he smiled at me from behind his mask. I suddenly felt fine and relaxed that I had two caring men willing to help me.
A suction was hooked onto my lip which sucked all the moisture from my mouth. I watched Dr Urie use a water squirter to wash out my mouth. Once again, he used his gloved fingers to retract my cheeks when necessary.
"Okay Lola, sit forward and spit into the sink."
I obliged and soon enough was laying back in the chair.
"I think I've found the main problem of your pain Lola" he said as he explored my mouth with his mirror.
He let out a giggle.
"Looks like you ate something containing nuts?" He chuckled.
I watched him scan the array of tools scattered on the tray. He picked a sharp pointy tool and something that looked like a pair of pliers. This made me worry. I squeezed on Dr Weekes hand. He noticed and began rubbing my shoulder and told me it would be okay.
The tools were put into my mouth. I felt scratching, tugging, poking and pulling. It hurt like hell and a tear trickled down my face.
Rather quickly the tools were out of my mouth and the plier tools were shining in the gleam of the overhead light.
"Here was your issue." Dr Urie stated showing me the contents of the pliers.
It was a nut. A nut? A nut had caused all that pain? I laughed and let go of Dr Weekes' hand. I went to sit up from the chair, but I felt someone push me back down.
"Nope, we're not done yet."
"What do you mean?" I replied in a wailing tone.
"You! My friend, still need a cavity fixing." Dr Urie was no longer joking around. "Dr Weekes, would you mind setting up for me?"
"Of course" Dr Weekes nodded and started arranging some new tools on the tray.
"This is going to hurt isn't it?" I sighed. My eyes were still full of tears.
