Chapter 15

Charlie woke up early and looked at the view outside. The day was not looking so good for their journey. The snow was sticking and that wasn’t good. It would make their travel a bit heavier. Today she would have to concentrate very carefully so that she could use her powers to help them find the second leaf. It was between Jungfrau, Eiger and Mönch Mountain. They shared the same trail, hopefully she could determine while they were trailing which mountain section it would be at.

Adam woke up and found Charlie staring at the window with her arms folded. Her body looked tensed and worried. He was worried about her, the dream she had last night had been very dark and extreme. Even when she slept and he held her hand he felt her anxiety and her fear. He went to hold her from behind and felt her sigh into his arms. She leaned her head on his chest as usual and he kissed her cheek.

“Good morning gorgeous.”

“Good morning husband.”

Adam chuckled, it was a term he wasn’t use to as yet.

“How are you feeling?”

“You know you can just touch my hand, right?”

“You know I respect your privacy right?”

Charlie smiled while still facing the window.

“True, I am feeling a little nervous. The snow is sticking and I am not sure about how I feel about risking your life.”

Adam frowned at this, he did not think that this was something she was worried about.

“Don’t even say it, I am coming with you. We are partners and we are doing this together.”

“I know Adam, I’m just nervous okay and the dream didn’t help either. If anything it heightened my fear of losing you.”

Adam turned her around to glance at her facial expression. She had one hand on her forehead and didn’t meet his gaze until he forced her to. She looked at him, biting her lip in worry. He rubbed her arms in an up and down motion.

“Hey, hey we are such a strong team, this one will be easy. I have a feeling that guy will once again underestimate you and we can use that.”

What Adam said made sense to her but she would still be on full alert. Charlie wrapped her arms around Adam’s neck and smiled at him.

“You’re right. Let’s start hiking.”

They gathered up their gear and went down to reception where a tour guide was waiting for them. They were informed of the safety, risks and he asked them which mountain they were planning on hiking to. Adam told the guide the Mönch Mountain was the one his wife was interested in seeing.

The trail was positioned in a zig zag motion, snow covered every inch of the mountain. The trail was 30 minutes long, halfway along the trail the guide suggested they turned back because the mist was getting too hectic and the snow was still sticking. Charlie at this point showed the guide a better version of the mountain and he showed them the way. She felt as they came closer to the mountain that the leaf was right in front of them. Charlie told Adam to go forward and collect the leaf. He saw it shining and went to retrieve it. On his way he slipped and Charlie used a gust of wind to place Adam right in front of the leaf. While Adam was collecting the leaf the tour guide suddenly attacked her and she had to block him mentally.

Adam run towards her but got swept up into the mist and then dropped down. Charlie was still blocking the guide with one hand then she turned to lift the snow up with the other hand so Adam could slide down softly onto the snow. While trying to do both jobs Scott flew in and tried to hit Charlie but she drew up ice in front of her and he slammed into it and fell back. Charlie grabbed the guide and went to Adam who placed the leaf safely in the container.

“Adam hold on to me tightly please.”

Adam did as he was told, Charlie created a bubble and surrounded them in it and caused an avalanche to separate Scott from them.

Charlie suddenly lost control of the bubble and they tumbled down the mountain and the avalanche was above them travelling really fast towards them. Adam got a hold of the guide while Charlie made the avalanche move towards either side of them. A shot hit her in the shoulder and she fell down and the rest of the snow covered them.
