The Queen and Her Protector

Chapter 13

Adam looked at Charlie sleeping, he was so proud of how she used her powers today. She figured out the maze by herself and she handled herself really well with Scott. They were now on their way to the second location for the leaf and hopefully they would find it.

Pierre came to sit next to Adam and looked at him.

“I saw a different Charlie today, so much confidence. Not that she wasn’t before but she has definitely tapped into the skill.”

“Yes she was, when we were growing up I always treated her like glass. I wanted nothing to break her, I always had to be there to protect her. I sometimes forget she needs no protection.”

“Ahhh mon ami but she does need your protection, just not as before. So can you tell me why my son and I have to go into hiding and not help you?”

Adam gazed at Charlie before he faced Pierre.

“Because she wouldn’t allow it and I don’t know about you but I plan on listening to her.

“Okay Adam I shall listen too.”

They stayed up and spoke about many memories about Charlie and it comforted Adam to know that she had made great friends who genuinely cared about her.

Charlie started stirring; moaning so Adam went straight to her and held her hand. He saw the violence in her dreams and then it calmed down and he saw where they needed to be next. Adam withdrew his hand and stayed with her till she settled. He went to the pilot so they could plan their flight properly.

It wasn’t too long that they arrived in Bern, Switzerland. When they landed Pierre took his son and vanished like Charlie had asked. Charlie and Adam took a car ride from the airport to Hotel Bellevue which took 90 minutes. When they got to the hotel Charlie spoke this time, arranging them a room.

Once they were sorted, they went to their room and sat down. Adam went to the make shift kitchen and made them some hot chocolate. Charlie was sitting on the bed, drinking the beverage as she observed Adam. The room they had rented this time had very basic features. A flower painted wallpaper, a tiny desk facing the wall, the bed not too far from it. Her thoughts went back to Adam, she wanted him again it seemed but how could she go about seducing him. Another interesting idea formed in her head and she rolled with it.

“Hey I’m going to take a bath, would you care to join me?”

Adam laughed at this, she didn’t give up.

“I would say no but I’m guessing I should say yes.”

Charlie grinned at him.

“You guessed right sir, I’ll run the water.”

Charlie went to the bathroom and ran the water. She got undressed and got in the bath. Adam joined her soon after, scooting in behind her and cradling her in his arms.

“This is nice, being here with you.”

Charlie planted her head on his chest, playing with the water by making tiny bubbles and dropping them slowly back down.

“I was thinking, perhaps The Divine set these leaves aside so we could have time together. I mean it’s been crisis after crisis with you and I and not once have we set time apart just for us.”

Adam moved her hair from one side of her neck to the other and kissed her shoulder.

“You’re right, we’re on this constant moving train and this is nice to get to be with just you again.”

“And no Tyler to magically beam or appear whenever he wants."

“I’m started to think he enjoyed doing that, the brat.”

They both guffawed at that remark, Adam started massaging Charlie’s head and she whimpered blissfully.

“That feels amazing, Adam was I your first?”

Adam smiled at Charlie.

“Yes you were my first, I thought it would be unfair if I came to the party half instead of whole.”

“But you had girlfriends.”

“I did but we did mostly PG 13 stuff, never went that far.”

Charlie turned to glance at Adam; her eyes showed she was flabbergasted at this.

“You waited for me?”

“Ofcourse I waited, you are worth it.”

Charlie climbed onto his lap and stared at him in wonder. He didn’t move but he just watched her. There was this unspoken conversation going on with them through their eyes. If was as if she couldn’t breathe and he slowly calmed her down with just his eyes.

“In Paris I was exasperated at your constant thought for protection and now I’m in awe of your love.”

“Charlie it wasn’t a debate for me, I knew from the get go I wanted you. Yes sometimes I came off as a crazy overbearing friend but you drew me from the second we met. I just didn’t want to show my feelings that easily.”

“We all know the great Adam Stewart and his control, you annoy me sometimes.”

“I know and you annoy me too, you mostly never listen. Charlie I know all of this has been overwhelming but I am so happy you chose me even though it may not seem like it.”
