I turned to Kaid for some explanation, I had no idea they were related, it felt like a part that was meant to be kept secret.
“You didn’t have to say that,” Kaid said to Ethan. “After everything you did, I don’t even want to be associated with you.”
Ethan snickered. “…like you’re any different.” His eyes went back to me, while I was trying to fathom the idea of Kaid being his cousin.
Kaid touched me slightly on my arm. “You don’t have to worry about that, I hope it doesn’t affect us doing business together,”
Ethan didn’t look pleased, there wasn’t a time he was ever pleased with me or whatever I did.
“Come.” He grabbed my hand and started to pull me away from Kaid.
I yanked my hand away from his grip. “What is wrong with you?!” I yelled at him.
“You don’t want me yet you don’t want to let me go. I couldn’t even believe you pushed the kids into this, and now trying to act like you want me when you never once look me in the eye and tell me that you love me!”
“Seeing you behave this way disgusts me to the core, as it hurts you to see me this way, because you never wanted this for me.”
“And just a subtle reminder that I’ll take back everything, and even my gold heirloom.”
He gritted his teeth at me, but he didn’t say another word.
He didn’t have that control over my life again, and he has no right to tell me who I should associate with or not.
I walked past him, heading back into the hall when someone bumped into me, spilling her red wine on my dress.
“I’m so sorry…” She said while I was trying to wipe the wine off my dress quickly.
I lifted my head when I recognized the voice.
“Sorry.” She didn’t look sorry with that scornful look. She didn’t look sorry for me.
Everything she did was intentional.
Worse, she wanted to ruin my dress for tonight.
Why can’t they just get away from me and keep on f*****g themselves as they have always been?
“Here.” She brought out a handkerchief. “Let me help.” She tried to dab the stain of the wine off my dress, but I had stopped doing anything.
“I didn’t see you…” Her voice was loud, she wasn’t saying that to me, but to everyone who was peeping at us, watching to see what my reaction would be to the woman who had just bumped into me, acting like it was all an accident.
“I’m sorry, I…”
I took my lips in and breathed slowly. “It’s fine.” I found myself saying and pulled her hand away from touching me.
She looked up at me and smirked. “Your kids sent their greetings,”
I stepped closer, closing the distance between us as if I was about to hug her, and whispered close to her ear. “I know you’re doing so well as their nanny.”
“They call me mommy, I always wonder how you feel about that but don’t worry, this nanny is doing a better job than you did. Now how does that sound?”
My fist curled into a tight ball, and I would have ripped her right there and now but this wasn’t the place for it.
“Instead of being invisible, you are out here, this life outside isn't for you, you just don't fit.” She said, and I felt a hand pull me away from her gently with a hand over my shoulder. I felt the suit jacket as it covered my shoulders.
“You’re not the one to say if she is fit or not.”
I turned and stared at Alpha Stone. “She clearly owns this world now, you should be the one invisible.” He countered and held me close.
I had no words to say to Symphony, she knew my weakness was my kids, and that was just what she had to use on me, and I didn’t want her to have the last word.
“You should go meet him, you both suit each other.” I gestured my head over to Ethan. “And I’ll be glad to watch you both suffer.”
“What makes you think we are?” She laughed darkly.
“Is this some fairytale or some storybook you read to your kids, it’s not going to happen. We lived happily even when you’re married to Ethan, and now that you left, you think anything is going to change or Ethan will stop being Alpha and beg you to come back to his life?”
“It seems you have no idea that he’s already begging me to come back to the Pack,” I said and clicked my tongue. “I won’t give spoilers because I love to watch,”
She ground her teeth, and Alpha Stone gently led me away from her.
His hand didn’t leave my shoulders until we got to the restroom, he stopped and took his hands off, I shrugged his jacket off my body and it came off, I gave it back to him.
“Are you okay, Raven?”
I forced a smile on my lips. “Yes.”
I went into the restroom and closed the door behind me, the stain of the wine didn’t leave the dress. I stayed in the restroom for a long time, it was probably over fifteen minutes before I came out of the restroom.
I found him leaning over the wall where I had left him, his arms folded, and his eyes closed.
I didn’t expect him to keep waiting for me while I was there.
“You’re out.” He said, even with his eyes closed, he must’ve sensed my presence. He moved his back a bit from the wall. He stretched out his hand to me.
I stared at him wondering what that meant.
“Give me your hand.”
I shook my head. “It’s fine.”
“You didn’t have to do that earlier.”
“I could have handled it.”
“I thought I should take responsibility for tonight, we came here as a date, I didn’t want anything to go wrong, or anyone getting at you, that’s why I had to step in. I couldn’t just stand there and watch what happened.”
“You could have looked away.”
“I didn’t want to.” He insisted.
“And you're waiting here, does that have to be another sort of responsibility?” I asked.
“I didn’t want to leave you alone.” He didn’t hesitate with his words, he knew what he was doing, and the reason he stood there waiting for me.
“You’ve to change your dress.”
“I don’t have anything else to wear.”
“I already ordered one while you were in there, here it is.” He brought out the dress wrapped in a nylon from behind him, it was a black dress.
“Then I have to take this off.” I stared at the dress that I was in. I turned, and he knew what to do, his hand went to the zipper of the dress, and moved it down to my waistline, his fingers touching my back gently.
I held the black dress. “I’ll be back.”
I went back into the restroom and closed it, and I noticed that we were the only ones there. I haven’t seen anyone come in since we were here, or knock on the door.
I slipped the dress off my body, placed it in the nylon, and wore the black dress, but it was a strapless corset dress, and I would need his help with that. I came out with the dress, and I needed his help to tie the corset at the back.
“What do you need?” He said, moving his back away from the wall, I spun around, and his eyes went to the back of my dress.
“Do you know what to do?” I asked, and I didn’t expect a positive answer, so I told him how it’s done, and he was able to do it just as I wanted.
I turned when he was done, and he nodded his head approvingly, the black dress was beautiful.
I didn’t expect to get my exact size, even at the first dress I wore, everything he got for me seemed to be a perfect fit.
“Should we go back in?” He brought out his hand again, and I took his hand. “Hold on for a minute.” He brought out something from his pocket, a diamond necklace, he tucked my hair neatly to the side and placed the necklace around my neck.
It was beautiful, I have never seen anything like it. My fingers touched the necklace. “This is beautiful.”
“That’s why you need it.”
“I thought it would complement the dress.”
“Perfect.” He mumbled with a small smile. I had to tear my gaze away from him, because his gaze was making me falter.
I cleared my throat. “What should I do with the other dress?”
“Leave it, someone is going to get it.”
We walked out of the restroom with my hand around his arms.
They took pictures of us, even when we came again, cameras flashed their lights on us, we had gone through the red carpet again, and we were walking back to our seats, the gala event had already started.
Awards and recognition were given, Ethan Bankston was called, and he had stepped out to take his award as one of the Alpha of successful packs.
The next was me, right after he was called, and he was the one made to call my name and grant me the award.
I was awarded the best tech designer.
Alpha Stone held my hand, led me over the few stairs before I got to the podium, and he had let go.
“Raven Winters for the award.”
