“I don’t know how you were able to pull this off, Raven,” Ethan whispered to me, right before he placed the award in my hand, we turned to the cheering crowd with a pretentious smile on our faces. I didn’t remember to give Alpha Stone back his necklace, he didn’t say it was a present, he just wanted it to complement my dress, which was the reason he gave me. He drove me home after the Gala event, he was called to speak, and he was the one who had given the speech. I noticed her confidence. He looked, the way everyone listened when he spoke, I didn’t know if it was respect or fear. I had the two dresses with me and I have been staring at the diamond necklaces in my hand. He told me he was going to reach out, I wanted to return all of this, but I don’t know how to get to him. He seems to be the only one who could reach. I tried the card he gave me but it wasn’t working. I wanted to hack into his system, but I wanted to wait on him instead. Though I knew I could do it, since he said he was going to reach out, I wanted to let him. So I dropped the idea of hacking. Throughout the whole night, there was nothing from him. Not a word. I was using my father’s study as my workplace at home. I had to send a letter to Kaid, for the time and place of the meeting, and the upfront payment I was getting since it was a hacking job. He accepted almost immediately, and I was tempted to hack into his background, but that would be a breach of our contract, he was Ethan’s cousin, what could the worst-case scenario be? He must’ve known I was married to Ethan but said nothing about it. I looked into everything I could, every detail about him, I needed leverage, and something to be able to corner him. He was into drugs and had a gang of his own, he had caused the death of someone. I closed the computers when I had gotten enough details on Kaid Vanghuh, and the only thing left was to meet with him. “Why your office?” “We could have met someone else, like one of my luxurious clubs, it’s safe.” He wore a blue shirt that clung to his body, black jeans, a golden wristwatch, and sunglasses. “Nothing is wrong here,” I told him and moved my computer in his direction. “It’s safe and we can talk about what you want me to do.” “I have sent the payment.” “I’ve received it,” I said flatly. “Why are you acting cold to me? Because you found out I’m related to Ethan.” “We are discussing business,” “It doesn’t mean we have to be formal.” He stretched his hand over the table. “You are the only woman I have been close to.” I scoffed at his fluent lies. “You’re one of the notorious bachelors. You have different women every night on your bed, there’s no point lying to me. I know everything about you.” I said, and his eyes narrowed at me. “Did you spy on me?” “No.” I exhaled. “Ethan just said a lot, warned me about you.” “Those are…I mean..” “You don’t have to explain it to me.” “I want to because I don’t want you to misunderstand, and it’s different.” I shook my head, “I’m not interested in knowing that.” I lowered down at the computer, but his gaze was still focused on me. “That’s why I didn’t want to tell you about it, that I was related to your shitty husband, we ain’t close, I doubt he ever spoke of me until now.” He was right, Ethan never mentioned him. Not once. I never thought he would end up being Ethan’s cousin either. “You pique my interest, Raven.” “In a different way.” I stopped typing on the computer and stared at him, his back leaning over his seat, and he was resigned to saying nothing else. He avoided my gaze as well, not staring at me, even when I tried to get him to look at me. “How different?” I asked. “Someone I want to keep by my side, I don’t even look at those girls twice, but I want to keep seeing you, that's kind of different.” He explained, he held my gaze for a second before he looked away. “And remember we ain’t supposed to look into each other's lives.” I cleared my throat after a minute of silence between us. “Since I’ve agreed to work for you, tell me what I should do. You have already paid for it.” His hands came back to the table. “We are working, and you’re not going to ask me questions, and do exactly what I ask you to do because the questions you’re going to ask I won’t be able to provide answers to.” “It’s a secret work.” He said in a serious tone. I nodded curtly. Though I had questions that I wanted to ask him, but those things I couldn’t say yet, so I kept quiet and listened to him as he spoke. “I approached you because of this, it’s a top work. I haven’t gotten anyone who has been able to achieve this for me, and I believe you can.” He pushed a file towards me. “And I’m ready to pay more for it.” I took the file, and opened it, taking everything that was in it out. A picture fell out. There was another document containing personal information about the man. I picked up the picture to have a closer look at it and that was when the face became quite familiar to me. I stared at the picture and at Kaid. “This is…” my voice trailed off. “Alpha Asher Stone.” “I want you to look into him, hack into his system, and find out whatever he’s hiding, his weakness, everything. I want to know where he came from, and who exactly he is, and I want you to do that. Raven.”
