I couldn’t ask him questions that I wanted to because the entire work was confidential, and I didn’t even know what to say when he mentioned it. What was the thing he wanted? To find out whatever Alpha Stone was hiding, to break into his system. I kept staring at the file even after Kaid left, I spent hours on it, and still had no idea how I was going to start. “Ms. Raven.” “Yes.” “It has been fixed.” My lawyer said on the phone. “Your ex-husband Alpha Ethan will be charged in court, with the help of Alpha Stone that we received, which fastened the whole process.” I straightened up over the seat. “Has the date been fixed?” “Yes.” “When is it?” “On the 12th.” “That’s like five days from now.” “Yes, Ms. Raven.” “Will everything be sorted out on that day?” “Yes, and he has already received the letter from the court.” I bet he would be crashing out right now, and the media coming for him because of the divorce, I knew this was going to happen, he should have signed the divorce papers when I brought it, and we would have divorced quietly, but now, he’s getting people involved in our case. “Thank you for your help.” He chuckled softly. “I’m being paid for it,” After the call ended with my lawyer, I needed to leave the office. I put all the documents and paperwork in my drawer. The only file I had taken with me was the one for Alpha Stone. I placed them inside my handbag, I was going to take them home with me. I took the elevator downstairs and came out of the building, responding to every greeting with a pleasant smile and a short nod. I halted when I saw beside his car, he moved away lightly. “I was waiting to take you home.” I took my lips in, without knowing what to respond, and checked if the file I had tucked into my handbag was in any way visible. I stretched out his hand to me, so I could climb down the few stairs, and meet up with him. I hesitated for a minute before taking his hand. “I wasn’t expecting to see you here.” “I was around, so I wanted to come see you.” He let go of my hand when I was beside him, standing close to his car. “My lawyer told me what you did.” “Didn’t do much and I promised, I wanted to fulfill that.” He opened the car door, “Get in, I’ll take you home.” I nodded curtly and got into the car. He went into the driver’s seat and started the car. “You look bothered, is there something bothering you?” I shook my head. “I’m just surprised to find you here, Alpha.” He glanced at me and started driving without saying anything else. I tried to bring up a conversation but I had nothing to say, everything from earlier, kind of ruined it, and I couldn’t put my thoughts together right now. So I looked out the window, at the passing scenery. We were quiet till he dropped me off at home. I opened the car door. “Thank you.” I stepped out, and then I remembered I had something that I needed to give him. I turned and caught him staring at me. “Do you want to come in for coffee?” “Do you want me in?” I smiled, though it was for only a second. “Come in, and there’s something I want to give you.” He came out of the car and followed me into the house. “Welcome back home, Ms. Raven.” The maid greeted me, I closed the door behind me, and dismissed the two of them. “It belongs to my father, this is the house I grew up in.” The feeling of nostalgia hit me. But this wasn’t the right moment for it. “I’ll be back, give me a minute.” I left him in the living room, dropped my handbag, and came out with the necklace and the dresses. I went into the kitchen and decided to make the coffee myself. “Here.” “I hope it’s to your taste.” He took the cup from my hand, and sipped from it, he nodded approvingly. “It’s good.” “I thought you didn’t want to talk, that’s why I didn’t want to say anything, I guess you needed some silence.” I placed my cup of coffee on the table, and my hands went over my knees, he was right about needing the silence. “I wanted to return this.” I pushed the stuff towards him, I already had them packaged in a bag. “Is that the dress?” “Yes, and this too.” I opened the box where I kept the necklace. “It didn’t feel like you gave it to me, you wanted me to wear it for the night, and here it is.” He stared at the box for some seconds, before he took them from my hand. “I wanted you to have the dress, they are yours, because you accepted to be my date for the night, that’s why I bought them, you could choose someone else which you didn’t, and I thought I should do something, to make me at least worthy of being chosen. That’s why I brought the dress.” He was explaining with his eyes on the necklace. “You can have both dresses, you don’t have to rerun them for me, it looks perfect on you, and it can be on anybody else except you.” “And…” He lifted his head and held my gaze as if he knew I was staring at him. “When I gave you the necklace,” he paused in his words. “I wanted you to have it.” He dropped the box on the table. “I had it on for a long time, I never thought of giving it to anyone, until I saw you,” “I thought it was something you cherish.” He hummed and kept his gaze on me. “Yes.” “Then why are you giving it to me?”
