His phone rang before he could speak, and the next minute he got up, and walked over to the door. The call didn’t last for two minutes. “I need to go, something came up.” He stated urgently.
“You haven’t told me why I should keep the necklace,” I said, and got up on my feet, his eyes lingered on me, not saying much, but his eyes stayed.
“It was just a feeling, I can’t explain it.” That was his reply. He sighed, “But if you want to give it back, then I will take it from you.” He took two steps closer to me, and I stared back at the necklace and then at him, as if I truly wanted to give it back.
“But I wanted you to have it.”
“I’ll take my leave.”
He opened the door and walked out, I stood with my hand folded and watching him leave the house, he got into his car and drove off.
That was the last time for the week, the next time I did, it was in court, and it wasn’t just him who came, reporters waited outside, they knew we were getting divorced at this point.
“…the court heartily delayed Raven Winter and Ethan Bankston, divorced.”
“Her title as Luna of the Pack has been denounced, and she will hereby take back her territory, the merged pack will now be divided and Raven Winters will take back her Pack which was once the Neverland Pack.”
Ethan had his face in a tight frown the entire time, his anger was evident, and he hated everything and everyone around me.
Especially me.
“…the Crescent Moon Pack will no longer be merged, as Neverland will become a standing pack on its own and with its heiress. Raven Winters.”
“Case closed.”
It was a win for me, I was free from Ethan, free from begging him to love me, to choose me, to please me, I was free from all that, from a loveless marriage with Ethan.
I was divorced, and free.
We came out of the courtroom with cameras flashing at us, questions thrown in our direction, Ethan needed to give a statement as the Alpha of the Pack, he had to say something.
“Raven and I are divorced.” He declared as if that was the only thing he was going to say.
“What caused the divorced Alpha?”
“Why did you hide your wife all these years, you barely bring her out to any event.”
None of those questions he answered, the guard shoved the reporters aside, clearing the pack for Ethan to walk past, he kept a straight face the whole time.
When I thought Ethan was gone, I was cornered by his guard, and they pulled me over to the side.
“Get your hands off me!”
“You are not the Luna, and we can’t take orders from you anymore, we are doing exactly what the Alpha ordered us.” They kept dragging me.
“Get off!” My words fell on deaf ears, and they pulled me over to meet Ethan.
That was when they let go of me, I was fuming because of the disrespect that they had shown me, but that was the least of Ethan’s concerns, as if he wanted that anyway.
“You think you can get the other Alphas to fight me? You had to get Alpha Stone at your side, to go against me, you’ve won, but you will never see the kids again.” His hand held my jaw roughly.
I stared a dagger at him, “You can’t stop me from seeing them.”
“What? You’re not going to embarrass me all over again.”
“They don’t even want to see you.”
“You really did it. Raven,” he let go of my jawline and clapped his hand, a dry laugh came out of his throat.
“I underestimated you. Raven.”
“I thought you could never pull it off but you proved me wrong, you really did, got me into court because you’ve got backups. It must’ve been exciting!” He screamed at the last word.
“Is that why you brought me here?”
“I wanted to let you know that I wouldn’t let you off for this, you think you can manage a Pack, go ahead and watch it crumble.”
I smirked, “…that’s what you were thinking, but that’s not going to happen, you shameless bastard.”
He stared at me, his dark gaze boring holes into my skin, but I wasn’t afraid of his stares, that was probably the worst he could do at this point.
“How did you get the Alphas to stand at your side?”
“Which of them?” I snickered as if I had no clue what he was talking about.
“You know, Raven, you know those bastards that called themselves Alpha, they wrote petitions and supported your divorce, so don’t ask me s**t!”
“Is that why you are pained?”
He scoffed. “I thought I knew you.”
“No, thought you could control me, that’s why you thought!”
He fell silent for a second, and he closed the distance between us. “And is that wrong?”
I detest him, everything that was to him, his breath, his face, everything about him and I wanted this to be the last time that I would ever get involved with him.
“Let’s go, leave her alone.” He backed down, after he had just breathed in my face, his guard left my side, and I was left alone.
I stared at him as he left, angered at the man who was once my husband, and everything that I had endured, because I loved him and wanted to stay with him, everything that I did.
After my divorce, the news spread everywhere, it was in newspapers, magazines, and all, everyone knew about my divorce but that wasn’t the trending topic.
But who was going to be my husband and get everything that I owed, who was going to be the lucky Alpha to have my pack and me?
I received tons of messages, right after I uploaded a picture on my public profile, divorced and free as my hashtag, and no longer dealing with scumbags.
I got Alphas wanting to meet up for a date, begging to get accepted as the lucky man in my life.
“Have you seen the news?” Kaid said and clicked glasses with me, I was getting some wine over my freedom. Kaid had been the one who invited me to leave the house and have a drink with him which I accepted.
I was a bit glad that I did, it took my thoughts off a lot of things that bothered me.
“Who hasn’t?”
“You’re the most talked about.”
“I guess I should be counted as worthy for being next to you.” He joked and sipped from his glass of wine.
“I thought you wouldn’t come, the expression you had on your face the last time as if there was some doubt in it and I didn’t know what to do.” He said, and I just stared before us in silence, holding the glass without taking a sip from it, I wasn’t going to do that just yet.
“I was just thinking,” I said with a slight shrug, and he stared as if he didn’t want to believe it.
“Why?”
“A lot is happening.”
“Is that why?” He looked down at the glass of wine in his hand.
“I guess that’s it.”
“Are you still going to work for it, you can’t back down now.”
“You said I can’t ask questions.”
He leaned over in his seat, and there was some space between us in the lounge.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“I can’t tell you just yet.”
“Because I wanted to know why I should work on a client?”
“I saw you two together at the Gala, isn’t that why you’re hesitating on it?”
“The reason you’re having second thoughts, is all because of that night that you were together with him, and I can’t tell you everything, we need to establish some trust between us in business affairs, don’t you think so?”
“I thought we'd created that trust?”
He averted his gaze from my face. “You have no idea what this is all about.”
“Why are you turning away from me?” I asked, I wanted him to look at me when he said it.
“Do you think you can trust him?” His eyes met mine when he turned.
“Do you even know who that man is?”
I swallowed the lump I felt in my throat.
“Do you think Alpha Stone is who he truly is?”
